Minjar Fair
- The upcoming International Minjar Fair will be organised with grandeur, highlighting the rich folk art, culture and history of the Chamba district.
- The eight-day fair will be organised from July 23 to 30.
About Fair
- Minjar Fair is a popular event in the Chamba Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The Fair is organized every year to express gratitude towards gods and further ask for their blessing for a good yield. During the fair, Chamba comes to life. Celebrated every year in July/August, Minjar Fair extends for a whole week. Its main highlights are folk singing and dancing. People also make offerings which include seasonal fruit, a rupee, a 'Minjar' (composed of golden and paddy silk wrapped in red fabric), and also coconut.
History of Minjar Fair
- The Minjar Fair is celebrated since 935 AD as a way to commemorate the victory of Chamba’s Raja over that of Trigarta. It is said that on his return, people greeted him with sherfs of maize and paddy, as a gift to symbolise happiness and prosperity. Since then, Minjar Fair is held in the same vein of continuing wealth and blessings. Earlier, a buffalo was also used to be sacrificed but that practice is discontinued now.
- There are also some other heartwarming tales of how the Minjar Fair started.
- There’s a story of an old lady who once wanted to meet the King. She didn’t have much money and couldn’t afford a gift for the King. All she had was a humble Maize flower and she took it along and went to see the King. Humbled by the purity of the gift and a heart filled with love, the King was moved to tears and he declared the day to be celebrated in honour of the selfless gift the lady brought for him - the Maize Flower. From that day on, the day is revered as Maize day or Minjar day.
- Another anecdote from the locals talks about the colourful Minjar woven by the Banarasi Brahmins. That’s where the festival gets its name from. The story goes on about the River Ravi flowing between the two famous temples of Chamba - Champawati and Hari Rai Temple. The might of the river was so strong that people couldn’t go across. On the behest of the King, a yajna was performed by a saint for seven days where Banarasi Brahmins were called upon. They wove a colourful sacred cord known as Minjar. Post the yagna, the river is said to have changed its course.
Gaddi shepherds stranded in Chandratal area
- A large number of Gaddi shepherds are stranded in higher reaches of the Bara Bhangal valley that extends over Kangra, Kullu and Lahaul and Spiti districts.
- Bara Bhangal is a remote village that is situated 15 km from Thamsar Pass in Kangra district.
- Flashfloods in the Ravi, bridges constructed over it were destroyed.
मिंजर मेला
- आगामी अंतर्राष्ट्रीय मिंजर मेला चंबा जिले की समृद्ध लोक कला, संस्कृति और इतिहास को उजागर करते हुए भव्यता के साथ आयोजित किया जाएगा।
- आठ दिवसीय मेला 23 से 30 जुलाई तक आयोजित किया जाएगा।
- मिंजर मेला हिमाचल प्रदेश की चंबा घाटी में एक लोकप्रिय आयोजन है। यह मेला हर साल देवताओं के प्रति आभार व्यक्त करने और अच्छी उपज के लिए उनका आशीर्वाद मांगने के लिए आयोजित किया जाता है। मेले के दौरान चम्बा जीवंत हो उठता है। हर साल जुलाई/अगस्त में मनाया जाने वाला मिंजर मेला पूरे एक सप्ताह तक चलता है। इसका मुख्य आकर्षण लोक गायन और नृत्य हैं। लोग प्रसाद भी चढ़ाते हैं जिसमें मौसमी फल, एक रुपया, एक 'मिंजर' (लाल कपड़े में लिपटे सुनहरे और धान के रेशम से बना) और नारियल भी शामिल होता है।
- मिंजर मेला 935 ईस्वी से त्रिगर्त पर चंबा के राजा की जीत की याद में मनाया जाता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि उनके लौटने पर लोगों ने सुख और समृद्धि के प्रतीक उपहार के रूप में मक्का और धान के शेर देकर उनका स्वागत किया। तब से, मिंजर मेला निरंतर धन और आशीर्वाद की भावना के रूप में आयोजित किया जाता है। पहले भैंसे की भी बलि दी जाती थी लेकिन अब यह प्रथा बंद हो गई है।
- यह एक बूढ़ी औरत की कहानी है जो एक बार राजा से मिलना चाहती थी। उसके पास ज़्यादा पैसे नहीं थे और वह राजा के लिए कोई उपहार नहीं खरीद सकती थी। उसके पास बस एक मक्का का फूल था और वह उसे साथ लेकर राजा से मिलने चली गई। उपहार की पवित्रता और प्यार से भरे दिल से नम्र होकर, राजा की आँखों में आँसू आ गए और उन्होंने उस निस्वार्थ उपहार के सम्मान में उस दिन को मनाने की घोषणा की जो महिला उनके लिए लाई थी - मक्का का फूल। उस दिन से, उस दिन को मक्का दिवस या मिंजर दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
- स्थानीय लोगों का एक और किस्सा बनारसी ब्राह्मणों द्वारा बुनी गई रंगीन मिंजर के बारे में बताता है। यहीं से इस त्योहार का नाम पड़ा। यह कहानी चंबा के दो प्रसिद्ध मंदिरों - चंपावती और हरि राय मंदिर के बीच बहने वाली रावी नदी के बारे में है। नदी का वेग इतना प्रबल था कि लोग उस पार नहीं जा पा रहे थे। राजा के आदेश पर एक संत द्वारा सात दिनों तक यज्ञ कराया गया जिसमें बनारसी ब्राह्मणों को बुलाया गया। वे एक रंगीन पवित्र रस्सी बुनते थे जिसे मिंजर के नाम से जाना जाता है। कहा जाता है कि यज्ञ के बाद नदी ने अपना मार्ग बदल लिया था।
