BANKING & ECONOMY
  • India is all set to become the 69th member of the multilateral developmental investment bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), headquartered in London, United Kingdom, after shareholders of the international financial institution gave their nod to the country’s candidature.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) lifts per borrower loan limits, which was earlier up to Rs 5 cr and Rs 10 cr, to Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (Services) for classification under priority sector lending.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the scrapping of subsidies given to banks to install ATM machines and cash-recyclers.
    • Currently, the regulator has fixed subsidy amount at 50% of the actual cost of the machine or Rs 2 lakh whichever is lower for urban centre’s and 60% in semi urban areas and rural areas or Rs 2.5 lakh whichever is lower.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved Rs 1,151-crore Central Sector Scheme for in-situ management of crop residue in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and NCT of Delhi.
  • The Catholic Syrian Bank Ltd ties up with Celebrus Capital Ltd to offer CSB’s customers online trading and Demat services.
  • According to the Nikkei India Services Business Activity Index, India's services sector contracted at in Feb 2018 compared with 51.7 in Jan 2018.
  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) allocated Rs. 1000 crore for Phase II of Impacting Research Innovation and Technology (IMPRINT) India programme to boost research and innovation in the country.
  • According to recent report by US Treasury Department, India is the 12th largest overseas holder of US govt securities.
  • US-based Major credit rating agency Moody's Investors Service estimated that India will grow at 7.6% in 2018.
  • The IndusInd Bank announced its partnership with Ripple to facilitate payments into and out of India.

  • The Union Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) has launched Udyam Sakhi Portal (www.udyamsakhi.org) for women entrepreneurs on International Women’s Day (Mar 08).
  • The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog launched Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) on the occasion of International Women’s Day (Mar 8) with the theme song 'Naari Shakti', composed and sung by renowned singer Kailash Kher.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the pan-India expansion of flagship programme–Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao (BBBP)–from JhunJhun district of Rajasthan on March 8 to mark the International Women’s Day (IWD-2018).

  • The Cybersecurity agencies detected a new malware called Saposhi that can take over electronic devices and use them for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

  • The 9-member committee for Karnataka Flag constituted by state Kannada and Culture department recommended new tricolor flag having yellow (at top), white (in middle) and red (at bottom) colours, with state’s emblem Gandaberunda (a two-headed mythological bird) in centre.
  • Diu becomes the first and the only Union Territory in the country to be fully operated on solar energy.
  • The Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministry in association with Uttar Pradesh Govt organized Swachh Shakti 2018, a Women’s Convention on occasion of International Women’s Day in Lucknow.

  • Iraq overtook Saudi Arabia to become India’s top crude oil supplier by supplying 38.9 million tonnes (MT) crude oil in the current financial year.
