Improving Farming Community’s Worth
- The state government of Himachal Pradesh is undertaking various initiatives to increase farmers’ income, taking into account the peculiar geography of the region and the options available thereof. One of the paths taken by the state government in this direction has been the promotion of cash crops.

- As a result of the state’s intervention and initiatives, the cultivation of wild marigold flower under the Aroma Mission is helping the region’s farmers become self-reliant.
- It is noteworthy that the Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur, has implemented the project in coordination with the agriculture and horticulture departments of the Himachal Pradesh government.
- As the damage was caused to traditional agricultural produce by wild animals, the initiative was taken with the cultivation of wild marigold at Pakhed village in Suri panchayat.The Chamunda Krishak Society, Chakoli-Meda, has, at present, over 400 farmers in the group.Some of the successful farmers in the region have been working on wild marigold and some herbs for about 15 years.
- Since 2012, they have solely focused on the cultivation of wild marigold and started earning income by extracting oil. In this regard, the Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology had set up an oil distillation unit for the facilitation of the local farming community.
- The setting up of oil distillation unit at Pakhed village has encouraged farmers to cultivate wild marigold. The Chamunda Krishak Society has produced about 250 kg oil over the past three years.
- In this regard, the Palampur institute has also established 13 intensive oil distillation units at different places in the district in order to promote the cultivation of marigold in the region. Notably, the concentrated oil of wild marigold sells locally at a very remunerative price. As a result, the local farmers are earning a handsome annual income from wild marigold farming.
- In this regard, the district administration signed an MoU with the CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur, in 2021 to promote the cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants, besides providing technical information, plants, distillation units and market for the sale of finished products to the local farmers.

- राज्य के हस्तक्षेप और पहल के परिणामस्वरूप, अरोमा मिशन के तहत जंगली गेंदा फूल की खेती से क्षेत्र के किसानों को आत्मनिर्भर बनने में मदद मिल रही है। उल्लेखनीय है कि इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ हिमालयन बायोरिसोर्स टेक्नोलॉजी (आईएचबीटी), पालमपुर ने हिमाचल प्रदेश सरकार के कृषि और बागवानी विभागों के समन्वय से इस परियोजना को लागू किया है।
- चूंकि जंगली जानवरों द्वारा पारंपरिक कृषि उपज को नुकसान पहुंचाया जाता था, इसलिए सूरी पंचायत के पाखेड़ गांव में जंगली गेंदा की खेती की पहल की गई। चामुंडा कृषक सोसायटी, चकोली-मेडा के समूह में वर्तमान में 400 से अधिक किसान हैं। क्षेत्र के कुछ सफल किसान लगभग 15 वर्षों से जंगली गेंदा और कुछ जड़ी-बूटियों पर काम कर रहे हैं।
- 2012 से, उन्होंने पूरी तरह से जंगली गेंदा की खेती पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया और तेल निकालकर आय अर्जित करना शुरू कर दिया।
- इस संबंध में, हिमालय जैवसंपदा प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान ने स्थानीय कृषक समुदाय की सुविधा के लिए एक तेल आसवन इकाई की स्थापना की थी। पाखेड़ गांव में तेल आसवन इकाई की स्थापना ने किसानों को जंगली गेंदा की खेती के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया है।
- चामुंडा कृषक सोसायटी ने पिछले तीन वर्षों में लगभग 250 किलोग्राम तेल का उत्पादन किया है। इस संबंध में, पालमपुर संस्थान ने क्षेत्र में गेंदा की खेती को बढ़ावा देने के लिए जिले के विभिन्न स्थानों पर 13 गहन तेल आसवन इकाइयां भी स्थापित की हैं। विशेष रूप से, जंगली गेंदे का संकेंद्रित तेल स्थानीय स्तर पर बहुत ही लाभकारी मूल्य पर बिकता है। परिणामस्वरूप, स्थानीय किसान जंगली गेंदा की खेती से अच्छी वार्षिक आय अर्जित कर रहे हैं।
- इस संबंध में, जिला प्रशासन ने तकनीकी जानकारी प्रदान करने के अलावा, सुगंधित और औषधीय पौधों की खेती को बढ़ावा देने के लिए 2021 में सीएसआईआर- हिमालय जैवसंपदा प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान, पालमपुर के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर किए।स्थानीय किसानों को तैयार उत्पादों की बिक्री के लिए निर्माण, संयंत्र, आसवन इकाइयाँ और बाज़ार।
