66% of elderly women faced physical violence in State
- About 66 per cent of the elderly women in Himachal Pradesh have been victims of physical violence with their son being the perpetrator in 56 per cent.
- The percentage of older women facing physical abuse in the state is more than the national percentage of 50 per cent revealed in the report titled ‘Women & Ageing: Invisible or Empowered?’ released on the eve of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
- The report claimed that the incidents of physical abuse against elders have been increasing by 16 per cent at the national level and 15 per cent at HP.
- There are about 3.66 lakh elderly women in HP, higher in number than the elderly male population.
- According to the report, about 17% of old women reported facing “disrespect” while another 17% went through “emotional/ psychological abuse.
- In 56 per cent of cases the main perpetrator was the son, followed by the daughter-in-law at 15%, and relatives at 12%, he said, adding that 48 % of elderly women reported being “financially insecure.”
- The report, based on a survey conducted by Ipsos, studied trends in 20 states and five Union Territories with a total sample size of more than 7,900. The sample size in HP was 400.

- हिमाचल प्रदेश में लगभग 66 प्रतिशत बुजुर्ग महिलाएं शारीरिक हिंसा की शिकार हुई हैं और इनमें से 56 प्रतिशत मामलों में बेटा अपराधी है।
- विश्व बुजुर्ग दुर्व्यवहार जागरूकता दिवस की पूर्व संध्या पर जारी 'महिलाएं और बुढ़ापा: अदृश्य या सशक्त?' शीर्षक रिपोर्ट से पता चला है कि राज्य में शारीरिक शोषण का सामना करने वाली वृद्ध महिलाओं का प्रतिशत राष्ट्रीय प्रतिशत 50 प्रतिशत से अधिक है।
- रिपोर्ट में दावा किया गया है कि बुजुर्गों के खिलाफ शारीरिक शोषण की घटनाएं राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर 16 फीसदी और हिमाचल प्रदेश में 15 फीसदी की दर से बढ़ रही हैं.
- हिमाचल प्रदेश में लगभग 3.66 लाख बुजुर्ग महिलाएं हैं, जो बुजुर्ग पुरुष आबादी से अधिक है।
- रिपोर्ट के अनुसार, लगभग 17 प्रतिशत वृद्ध महिलाओं ने "अपमान" का सामना करने की सूचना दी, जबकि अन्य 17 प्रतिशत को "भावनात्मक/मनोवैज्ञानिक दुर्व्यवहार" का सामना करना पड़ा।
- उन्होंने कहा कि 56 प्रतिशत मामलों में मुख्य अपराधी बेटा था, उसके बाद 15 प्रतिशत में बहू और 12 प्रतिशत में रिश्तेदार थे, उन्होंने कहा कि 48 प्रतिशत बुजुर्ग महिलाओं ने "आर्थिक रूप से असुरक्षित" होने की सूचना दी।
- इप्सोस द्वारा किए गए एक सर्वेक्षण पर आधारित रिपोर्ट में 7,900 से अधिक के कुल नमूना आकार के साथ 20 राज्यों और पांच केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के रुझानों का अध्ययन किया गया। एचपी में नमूना आकार 400 था।
