IBPS PO Prelims 2018 Exam Pattern

This Year IBPS has introduced the sectional timing in prelims exam following the footprint of SBI. Therefore it is expected that the difficulty level of IBPS PO Prelims Paper will also be somehow similar to SBI PO. Due to the introduction of sectional timing students will not be able to switch between the sections.

Quantitative Aptitude Analysis for IBPS PO Prelims Exam 14 October 2018 - Slot 4

This shift of Quantitative Aptitude section in the was difficult. In the first shift there were only two sets of data interpretation but in the second shift there were three: Line Graph, Caselet and Tabular DI. Line graph Data Interpretation was do-able whereas the other two sets were lengthy.Quadratic equation and Quantity Based questions were not asked in this shift. 
  1. Number Series: They were easily doable, based on simple arithmetic calculations.
  2. Quadratic Equation: If you are well-versed with the concepts of equations, attempting questions of this topic would be comparatively easy.
  3. Data Interpretation: Questions were asked from a tabular graph, pie chat & caselate. 5 questions were asked from each DI set.
  4. Miscellaneous Questions: Questions under this segment were asked from different arithmetic problems like Partnerships, Problem on Ages, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, Time Speed & Distance, Mixtures, Simple & Compound Interest etc. 
  5. Data Sufficiency/Quantity Based: Questions were framed from arithmetic section.

English Analysis for IBPS PO Prelims Exam 14 October 2018 - Slot 4

As expected, English Language section was twisted & the level of paper was Moderate to Difficult compared to the other two sections asked in IBPS PO Prelims.
Questions asked in comparison with the previous shift. In this shift there were around 5 question of match the following type similar to the one asked in English Language Section of SBI PO Pre 2018.
  1. Reading Comprehension: 7 questions were asked from this topic. It was based on the topic: Global Warming. 3 paragraphs were given describing situation 1,2 and 3. 2 questions were asked from Synonym and Antonym.
  2. Sentence Rearrangement: 4 sentences were given in a question. Students had to arrange them making a suitable paragraph.  
  3. Error Detection: A sentence was divided into 5 parts. Students had to identify the correct part/s.
  4. Word Replacement: A word was bold in a sentence. Students need to identify the correct alternative in place of it from the given options.
  5. Fillers: Single fillers were asked. They were easily doable.
  6. Word Usage: A word was given. It was followed by 3 sentences. Students had to find the correct use of in the given sentences..

Reasoning Ability Analysis for IBPS PO Prelims Exam 14 October 2018 - Slot 4

The level of Reasoning Ability section asked in IBPS PO Prelims 2018 was Moderate. Coding decoding, Inequality was not asked in this shift
  1. Data Sufficiency: A question was followed by two statements. Students had to find from which statement/s answer can be driven.
  2. Syllogism: it was based on old pattern.
  3. Puzzles and Seating Arrangement: Following questions were asked from this segment:
    1. Linear arrangement: People sitting in two rows facing north and south respectively. 7 persons were seated in each row. 
    2. Circular Arrangement: 8 persons needed to be arranged who were facing the centre. One more variable was given: the name of the colour each person likes.
    3. Tabular Arrangement
    4. Month Based Puzzle: 7 months with one more variable needs to be arranged.
  4. 4. Direction Sense: 3 questions were there on the same set of information. 
  5. 5. Alphabet Test: Questions were based on letter coding and word formation.
