PM Modi reaches Janakpur on a two-day visit to Nepal

  • Prime Minister ‘Narendra Modi’ reached Janakpur on a two-day visit to the Himalayan nation 'Nepal'.
  • Mr. Modi will hold bilateral talks with his Nepalese counterpart KP Sharma Oli besides meeting the President and Vice President of the country.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister KP Oli have flagged off the Ayodhya-Janakpur bus service.
  • The bus route is part of the ‘Ramayan Circuit’ and links the birthplaces of Sita and Ram.
  • Mr. Modi and Mr. Oli will jointly lay the foundation stone for Arun 3 hydropower project.
Note:
  • The city ‘Janakpur’ has been mentioned in Ramanayana as the birthplace of Sita (Ram’s consort).
  • As per the great Hindu epic ‘Ramayan’, Ram is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu & Sita is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrives in Peru

  • Vice President Venkaiah Naidu arrived in Peru on the third leg of his three-nation visit to Central America.
  • He will meet the President of Peru, Vice President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and discuss various issues of mutual interest.
  • Both the counties will review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations including Trade and Commerce, Investments, Information Technology, Capacity building, Traditional medicines, Space, Defence, Culture, and others.
  • Mr. Naidu will also interact with Indian Diaspora and visit ancient archaeological sites, museum and other historic places in and around Lima.

US Prez Donald Trump to meet Kim Jong-un on 12th of next month in Singapore

  • Donald Trump (US President) will meet Kim Jong-un (North Korea's leader) on 12th of next month in Singapore to discuss the denuclearization on the Korean peninsula.
  • The two leaders will try to make it a very special moment for World Peace.
  • Earlier in March 2018, Mr. Trump stunned the world by accepting an invitation to meet Kim for an unprecedented sit-down.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj meets Myanmar President U Win Myint

  • The union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on U Win Myint (Myanmar President) at Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar.
  • Seven agreements are expected to be signed during the two days visit.
  • Myanmar is one of India's strategic neighbors and it shares a 1,640 km border with a number of north-eastern states.

Former Indian test cricketer Rajinder Pal passes away

  • Former Delhi cricketer Rajinder Pal (80 -year) passed away at his residence at Dehradun.
  • Rajinder Pal was right-arm medium pacer played his only Test match against England (then known as MCC) during the 1963-64 series in Mumbai.

National Technology Day being celebrated in India

  • The ‘National Technology Day’ is observed every year on 11th of May in India, acting as a reminder of the anniversary of Shakti.
  • On May 11, 1998, India successfully test fired the Shakti-I nuclear missile at the Indian Army's Pokhran Test Range (in Rajasthan) in an operation led by aerospace engineer and late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
  • India conducted five underground nuclear tests at Pokhran test range in Rajasthan, on 11th and 13th of May in 1998.
  • The first nuclear test Pokhran with a codenamed as ‘Smiling Buddha’ was carried out in May 1974.

Pawan Kumar Agarwal gets an extension as CEO FSSAI

  • Senior IAS officer Pawan Kumar Agarwal (1985-batch- West Bengal cadre) has been given three months extension as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
  • In December 2015, He was appointed as the CEO of the FSSAI.
  • Currently, Ashish Bahuguna is the Chairperson for FSSAI.

  • Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous body established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, headquarters at New Delhi.
  • It is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety.

SpaceX halts countdown of the first commercial launch of updated Falcon 9 rocket in Florida

  • SpaceX has aborted the launch of its planned first commercial flight of an updated Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
  • The countdown was halted in the final stage of the launch sequence, due to an unspecified glitch.
  • On a mission to carry a satellite into orbit for the government of Bangladesh.

Railways to spend Rs 5000 crore to revamp 68 stations

  • The Indian Railways will spend Rs. 5,000 crores on modernizing 68 major stations for the redevelopment project.
  • The stations to be upgraded include Pune, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Shimla, Mathura, Valsad, Ambala, Varanasi, and Dehradun.
  • Most of the money to be spent on every station would go towards installing elevators, flooring the platforms and refurbishing the walls, along with constructing a modern facade at the station entrances to make them look as swanky as airports.
  • The Indian Railways has 17 zones across the country that control, maintain and operate railway stations along with train movements in different regions.

Madhya Pradesh launches India’s 1st ICCC for its Smart Cities

  • Madhya Pradesh govt has launched the country's first Integrated Control and Command Centre (ICCC) for all seven smart cities (Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Satna, and Sagar) of the state in Bhopal.
  • The ICCC would enable the authorities to monitor the status of various smart civic amenities in real-time through the sensors connected to it.
  • It was launched in the first "Apex Conference for the CEOs" of smart cities.
