65th National Film Awards announced in New Delhi

  • Today, the Chairpersons of the three Juries (Feature, Non-feature and Writing) for the 65th National Film Awards director Shekhar Kapur has announced the awards in different Categories at Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • Assamese Film ‘Village Rockstar’ bagged the best film award.
  • Amit Masurkar’s ‘Newton’ has been selected as the Best Hindi Film.
  • Water Baby has been adjudged the ‘Best Non-Feature Film’.
  • National award for ‘Best Actress’ is given to Sri Devi posthumously for her role in the film Mom.
  • Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to actor ‘Vinod Khanna’ posthumously.
  • The award will be given by the President Ram Nath Kovind on 3rd May,2018.
Note: National Film Awards were constituted in 1954 and are awarded yearly by Directorate of Film Festivals.

Maharashtra govt announces cash prizes for those who bagged medals in CWG 2018

  • The Maharashtra government has announced cash prizes for those who bagged medals in the ongoing 2018 Commonwealth Games Gold Coast.
  • Each gold medal winner of the state will be rewarded with a cash prize of 50 lakh rupees, silver medallists (30 lakh rupees) and bronze winners (20 lakh rupees).
  • Their coaches shall be honored with 12.5 lakh rupees (for Gold), 7.5 lakh rupees (for silver) and 5 lakh rupees (bronze) from the state.

3. Jayant Sinha to head a task force for fast-tracking roll-out of UAV technology

  • The union govt. has constituted a task force under the chairmanship of Minister of State Civil-Aviation Jayant Sinha for fast-tracking the roll-out of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology.
  • It will consist of representatives from the government, Public Sector Undertakings, industry, and sectoral experts.
  • The task force will submit its report within 6 months of its constitution.
  • The Task Force will focus on research and development, acquisition and commercialization, application and adoption in specific sectors, regulatory framework and preference for Make in India.
Note:
  • An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is a type of aircraft that operates without a human pilot onboard.
  • Remote control airplanes and helicopters can also be classified as UAVs when they have particular kinds of performance and remote-control capabilities.

NCERT publishes information about Childline helplines & POCSO e-box

  • The NCERT (National Council Of Educational Research And Training) has published the information about Childline helplines and POCSO e-box for children in all course books from Class 6 to 12.
  • This will equip the children with the information regarding the possible modes of protection and complaints.
  • The information is expected to reach approximately 26 crore students in 15 lakh schools through these course books.

US announces GSP eligibility review of India

  • The United States has announced eligibility review of India for the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), based on the market access concerns it has with India.
  • The GSP is the largest and oldest US trade preference programme and is designed to promote economic development by allowing duty-free entry for thousands of products from designated beneficiary countries.
  • Congress last month had voted to renew the GSP through 2020.

Retail inflation dips to 4.28 percent in March

  • According to the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Retail inflation has dipped to 4.28% in March from 4.44% in February.
  • Prices of vegetables, other food times and beverages softened.
  • The rate of increase in price rise slowed for the third consecutive month (5.2% in December and 5.07% in January) due to unusual pick up in food prices and rise in domestic petrol and diesel prices.
  • Industrial Production expanded by 7.1% in February compared to 1.2% in the same month last year.

Reserve Bank tightens reporting norms for Liberalised Remittance Scheme

  • The Reserve Bank of India has tightened reporting norms for the Liberalised Remittance Scheme under which an individual can transfer up to 2,50,000 US Dollars abroad in a year.
  • Reserve Bank has made it mandatory for banks to file a daily report of all such transactions.
  • These daily reports will be accessible to all other banks and make the verification easier.
  • Currently, these transactions are permitted by banks based on the declaration made by the remitter as there is no way to verify the claim independently.

Anish Bhanwala becomes India's youngest CWG gold medallist

  • Shooter Anish Bhanwala (15-years) has become India's youngest gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games.
  • He won the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Finals with a record score at Gold Coast, Australia.
  • He shot down the CWG record in the final with a score of 30 including four series of 5 each.
  • Sergei Evglevski (Australia) claimed the silver (with 28), while the bronze medal went to Sam Gowin (England) with 17.
  • Manu Bhaker was the youngest Indian Commonwealth Games gold medallist earlier this week when she emerged champion in the 10m air rifle finals.

Ace shuttler ‘Kidambi Srikanth’ becomes World No 1 in Badminton

  • Ace Indian shuttler ‘Kidambi Srikanth’ (25-year) has become the World number- 1 in men’s singles category in Badminton World Federation updated its weekly rankings.
  • Srikanth replaced Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) at the top of rankings with 76,895 points.
  • He joins Saina Nehwal to become only the second Indian to achieve the feat.
  • Srikanth Nammalwar Kidambi was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
  • In 2018, he was awarded with the Padma Shri (India's fourth highest civilian award).
