World's first 3D Sanskrit film screened at IFFI
- The world’s first 3D Sanskrit film 'Anurakthi’ has been screened at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji in Goa.
- The story of the movie tells the story of 'Vasudha', a Punjabi danseuse who comes to Kerala to learn Koodiyattam dance from a practitioner called Paramesharwan Chakkiar.
- The film is directed by Asokan PK.
Note: Koodiyattam is known as the Sanskrit theatre performed in Kerala. Koodiyattam originated much before Kathakali and considered to be 2000 years old.
'Newton' wins 2 awards at Asia Pacific Screen Awards
- ‘Newton’ film has won the two awards at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Brisbane.
- The lead actor of ‘Newton’ movie, Rajkummar Rao won the Best Actor Award and Mayank Tewari and Amit V. Masurkar won the Best Screenplay Award.
- “Newton" is India's official entry for the foreign language film category at the Academy Awards 2018.
- The movie is directed by Amit V Masurkar.
SBI launches 'YONO' App
- The union finance Arun Jaitley has launched SBI's unified integrated app ‘YONO’ (You Only Need One).
- ‘YONO’ is the first digital banking platform which offers customised products to the customer. SBI has tied with 60 e-commerce players, including Amazon, Ola, Flipkart, Yatra, etc. to provide more facility other than banking services.
- With the help of this app, any customer can open their bank accounts with SBI in a few minutes, transfer funds, and utilize various other services.
- The application can be accessed on the web browser and mobile phones– Android and iOS platforms.
RBI raises shareholding limit of ARCs
- According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) notification, Asset Reconstruction Companies (ARCs) can hold more than 26% post-conversion of debt into equity in companies undergoing restructuring.
Note:
- The RBI also said that;1. ARCs should also maintain new owned fund (NOF) of Rs. 100 crore.2. ARCs should have at least half of the board members as independent directors to be eligible for exemption from the shareholding limit.
TN tops the list in highest number of women entrepreneurs: Report
- According to the report of Sheatwork, a knowledge hub for women entrepreneurs, Tamil Nadu has the highest number of women entrepreneurs in India which is followed by Kerala and West Bengal.
- The report is based on the state-wise analysis of the state of women entrepreneurship in the country.
- The top five states are -
- Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Rajasthan and West Bengal have emerged as top five states which offer the maximum number of schemes for women entrepreneurs.
- As per the report, the education sector has the maximum number of women entrepreneurs followed by financial services, insurance, livestock, forestry.
IKEA opens the first store in Hyderabad
- The Swedish furnishing retailer ‘IKEA’ has opened its first store a ‘Hej Home’ in Hyderabad.
- The store will provide some awareness of Ikea products and solutions to its customers.
- The store will open for business in the next year 2018.
Tata trucks flagged off from Kolkata to Bangladesh
- A container (M.V IDM Doodle) carrying 240 Tata trucks was flagged off from Kolkata to Bangladesh.
- These trucks will be shipped to the Port of Mongla in Bangladesh.
- This is the first ever Ro-Ro (Roll on /Roll off) export shipment which is flagged from Kolkata Port.
- The trucks manufactured in Jamshedpur and Pantnagar plants of Tata Motors.

Exclusive 'Rural Livelihood' scheme for Northeast
- The “North East Rural Livelihood Project” is launched by the Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Dr Jitendra Singh.
- The objective of the scheme is to assist over 10,000 Self Help Groups (SHGs) and benefit about three lakh poor households.
- The scheme is supported by the World Bank and will primarily benefit the tribal and the lower socioeconomic groups, including women, in the North-Eastern Region (NER).
Cabinet approves a new scheme ' Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra'
- The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a new scheme called ‘Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra', which will empower rural women through community participation to create an environment in which they realize their full potential.
- It will also aim at improvement in declining Child Sex Ratio, ensuring survival & protection of the girl child etc.
- Block level centres will provide support to PMMSK (Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra) and also give a foothold to BBBP (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) in 640 districts to be covered in a phased manner.
