Indonesia's Kevin Lilliana wins Miss International-2017

  • Indonesia’s Kevin Lilliana has crowned Miss International 2017 (57th) by outgoing titleholder Kylie Verzosa (Philippines) in Tokyo, Japan.
  • Kevin Lilliana beat 68 candidates from across the globe.
  • She is the first Indonesian female to win the crown of Miss International.
  • Miss International is a Tokyo-based international beauty pageant organized by The International Culture Association.
Note:
  • Lilliana was born in Bandung, West Java.
  • She graduated from Maranatha Christian University with a bachelor's degree in Interior Design and works as a model and interior designer.


IFFI: Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan to get lifetime achievement

  • According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan (57-year) will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji, Goa (20th to 28th Nov).
  • Atom Egoyan will also honor his work with a special film section that will screen 3 films produced by him.
  • Egoyan is best known for his films "Exotica", "The Sweet Hereafter" and "Chloe".

Abu Dhabi award for APMDC

  • The Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) has bagged an international award from Abu Dhabi in ‘social contribution in country value’ category.
  • APMDC was given the award for setting new benchmarks in the particular area which would further boost the performance of the corporation.
  • The ADI PEC (Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference) Excellence in Energy Awards 2017 had adjudged the APMDC as the winner for the second position in the category of “social contribution in country value.”

Legendary Hindi poet Kunwar Narayan passes away

  • Eminent Hindi poet and Jnanpith awardee ‘Kunwar Narayan’ (90-year) passed away in New Delhi.
  • He was known for his poetry, stories, and critiques and first poetry collection was "Chakravyuh’.
  • Kunwar Narayan was honored with Jnanpith Award in 2005 and Padma Bhushan in 2009.

R.K. Singh launches ‘Saubhagya’ Web-Portal

  • The minister of state (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy ‘R.K. Singh’ has launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yogna ‘Saubhagya’ Web Portal.
  • The portal can be accessed at saubhagya.gov.in.
  • On 25th September 2017, ‘Saubhagya’ scheme was launched by PM Modi with an amount of Rs. 16,320 Crore.
  • The Union Govt. will provide all willing households in rural areas and poor families in urban areas free electricity connections identified under Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) data 2011.

12th North-East business summit inaugurated in New Delhi

  • The two-day “12th North-East Business Summit” has been inaugurated in New Delhi to explore the scope for business opportunities in the North-Eastern (NE) region of India.
  • Focus areas are Infrastructure and Connectivity with Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), Skill Development, Financial Inclusion, etc.
  • The Summit is being organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), with Manipur being the state partner for the event.

Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates AP AgTech Summit-2017

  • Vice president ‘M Venkaiah Naidu’ has inaugurated 3-day AP AgTech Summit-2017 in the coastal city Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).
  • It will discuss innovative ideas, technologies and global best practices to push agricultural transformation in the state.
  • Summit is organized by the Andhra Pradesh Government in association with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Dahlberg Advisors.

RBI withdraws sale of Rs 10,000 crore worth of govt securities under Open Market Operations

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has withdrawn the sale of Rs. 10,000 crores worth of government securities under Open Market Operations (OMO) scheduled for 23rd November this year.
  • It is a view of the recent market developments and based on a fresh review of the current & evolving liquidity conditions.
  • Earlier, Moody's upped India's rating to Baa2 from Baa3, changing the outlook to 'stable' from 'positive'.

Moody’s Investors Service upgrades ratings of nine PSUs

  • Moody's Investors Service has upgraded ratings (stable from positive) of nine state-owned firms.
  • These are Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL), Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), NHPC, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and GAIL India.
  • Baa2 from Baa3: The foreign currency issuer ratings of BPCL, HPCL, IOC, and PLL.
  • Baa1 from Baa2: ONGC's rating.
  • Baa2 stable: NTPC, NHPC, NHAI and GAIL India.
  • India's sovereign credit rating was last upgraded in January 2004 to Baa2 from Baa3.
Note: Moody's Investors Service upgraded India's local and foreign currency issuer ratings to Baa2 from Baa3 and changed the outlook on the rating to stable from positive.

Namami Barak festival to begins in Silchar

  • Today, the first ever three-day ‘Namami Barak festival’ has been inaugurated by the Assam Chief ‘Sarbanand Sonowal’ at Police Parade ground in Silchar.
  • The event is being organized at 3 locations in Silchar, Hailakandi and Karimganj district.
  • Namami Barak is an attempt to pay tribute to the River Barak and to showcase of Barak's potential & possibilities to emerge as a hub of trade & commerce.

Revamped Indian Super League kicked off in Kochi

  • The fourth season of the revamped Indian Super League (ISL) football has begun in Kochi.
  • There are 10 teams for the first time in the league's history, with Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC entering the fray.
  • This season, Clubs allowed to field five foreign players (previous seasons – six players)
  •  This was the first time that ATK drew their first away match in an ISL edition, having won in the earlier three occasions.

Sushil Kumar wins gold at National Wrestling Championship

  • Olympic-medallist Sushil Kumar, Sakshi Malik and Geeta Phogat have won the gold medal in their respective categories in the National Wrestling championship in Indore.
  • In men's 74kg freestyle, Sushil Kumar bag a gold medal as three of his rivals gave him a walkover in men's 74kg freestyle competition.       
  • In women's 62kg, Sakshi Malik finished on the top of the podium after posting a dominating 10-0 victory over Pooja Tomar (Haryana).
  • In women’s 59kg category, Geeta Phogat clinched the gold medal with a win against Ravita.
