India beat Malaysia to clinch Asia Cup Hockey 2017
- India defeated Malaysia 2-1 in a close final to clinch its third Asia Cup hockey title in Dhaka.
- India scored the first goal through Ramandeep Singh in the first quarter and the second goal was scored by Lalit in the second quarter.
- Pakistan won the bronze after edging out Korea 6-3 in the third-fourth place play-off match.
- Earlier, India has won the Asia Cup in 2003 (Kuala Lumpur) and 2007 (Chennai).
- Lalit Upadhyay won the goal of the match award while Akashdeep Singh was adjudged the Man of the match.

- The 2017 Men's Hockey Asia Cup was the tenth tournament to date in Hockey Asia Cup for men held from 11th to 22nd October 2017 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
- The winner of this tournament qualified for the 2018 World Cup in India.
Virat Kohli surpasses Rickey Ponting with 31st century
- Indian Captain ‘Virat Kohli’ (31- hundred) surpassed the legendary Ricky Pointing (30-hundred) to become the second highest century-maker in ODIs.
- Now, Kohli is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (49 ODI hundreds) besides staggering 51 centuries in Tests.
- The Indian captain has 17 hundred to his name in the five-day format.

K Srikanth lifts Denmark Open Superseries Badminton trophy
- Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth (24-year) has lifted the Denmark Open Super series trophy at Odense.
- Srikanth (8th seeded) defeated Lee Hyun-il (South Korea) in straight games, 21-10, 21-5 to bag his third Super Series title of the year.
Note: The Denmark Open is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Danmarks Badminton Forbund.
Gaganjeet Bhullar clinches commanding win in Macau
- Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar (29-year) romped home to a three-shot victory at the Macao Open to bag his eighth Asian Tour title in Macau.
- Bhullar etched his name on the Macao Open trophy for the second time (first in 2012).
- Now, Bhullar has nine international wins to his credit including one on the European Challenge Tour.
BSF organizes Half Marathon - Run for Martyrs in New Delhi
- Sports Minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore flagged off the Half Marathon at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
- It was organized to commemorate the valiant deeds and supreme sacrifices made by the BSF Jawans in the service of the nation.
India's foreign exchange reserves touch record high in September
- According to global financial services major DBS, India's total foreign reserves touched a record high of USD 402.5 billion in September 2017.
- Reserves bottomed out at USD 275 billion in August 2013, at the worst point of the Fed taper tantrum.
- The reserves stock has increased on the back of strong foreign portfolio inflows, net investment flows, and a narrower current account deficit.
Banks to provide funds at 7% to women SHGs under DAY-NRLM: RBI
- According to the RBI, banks will provide funds to Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in rural areas at 7% under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) in the current financial year.
- The central bank issued the revised guidelines on interest subvention scheme under DAY-NRLM.
- All women SHGs will be eligible for interest subvention on credit up to 3 lakh rupees at 7% per annum.
- Banks will be subvented to the extent of the difference between the Weighted Average Interest Charged and 7% subject to the maximum limit of 5.5% for the year 2017-18.
- Subvention will be available to banks on the condition that they make SHG credit available at 7 percent per annum.
Three-day grand finale of Paryatan Parv to begin in New Delhi
- Today, the 3-day grand finale of ‘Paryatan Parv’ has begun in New Delhi.
- The grand finale will comprise of cultural performances, crafts bazaar, multi-cuisine food court and other interactive activities.
- The programme has been organized with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country and reinforcing the principle of Tourism for All.
- The Crafts Mela with 50 stalls will showcase the diverse handicrafts and handlooms of the country.
- There will be 15 Theme State Pavilions where each State will showcase their tourism products and destinations.

Govt de-affiliates 400 ITIs for failing quality norms
- The Union Govt. has de-affiliated around 400 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) after inspections found that the institutes lacked requisite infrastructure and trainers for imparting vocational training to students.
- The skill development ministry has begun monitoring the ITIs with a view to maintaining their quality standards and introduced voluntary self-grading by the institutes.
- The government’s vocational training programmes are administered by ITIs, which cater to about 36% of the 7 million people enrolled in various training programmes in India.
Telangana CM lays foundation stone of KMTP
- The Chief Minister of Telangana Chandrasekhar Rao has laid the foundation stone for the state of art ‘Kakatiya Mega Textile Park’ (KMTP) at Sayampet near Geesukonda in Warangal Rural district.
- The proposed 'cotton-to-garment' park will be set up in an area of 2,000 – 3,000 acres, with a vision to have a “fibre to fabric (end-to-end)” facility.
- The Mega Textile Park being set up by the State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation.
- The Project envisages plowing back economic benefits of the Park to the local populace by catering to all activities in the Textile value chain.
UP Govt. announces to enhance amount to family & parents of policeman on his martyrdom
- Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath announced to enhance the amount two times more given to the family and parents of a policeman on his martyrdom.
- Now, 40 lakhs rupees (earlier,20 lakh) will be given to the family and 10 lakh rupees will be given to the parents of a Police Marty instead of five lakh rupees.
- The Chief Minister also announced to increase nutrition food allowance of police force of every rank.
- Every year 950 police men (earlier 200 policemen) from all units of the State Police force will be honoured on the Republic Day and Independence Day for their outstanding contributions.
- 76 policemen have been martyred in the state in different police actions (During 1 September,2016 to 31st August,2017).
PM Modi Inaugurates the first phase of Ghogha-Dahej RORO ferry service in Gujarat
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first phase of ambitious Ghogha-Dahej Roll-on Roll-off ferry service at Ghogha, Bhavnagar (Gujarat).
- Now, the distance between Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions could be covered in less than an hour via-sea route.
- This service will reduce the distance between the Ghogha and Dahej from 310 kilometers by road to just 30 kilometers, which can be covered in one hour.
