We have already discussed the format of Essay and have shared a sample(Misuses of the Saviour-The Internet) with you last week. We have chosen a very sensitive topic for today, ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’ so that you have an idea about how to frame the content for similar topics.
An essay should be divided in three paragraphs:
- Introduction (around 40 words)
- Body (around 160 words)
- Conclusion (around 50 words)
For a better understanding, it

Democracy is generally defined
as the Government of people, by the people
and for the people. In democracy citizens have the power to
elect their representative, who can put forward their views and work for the
betterment of people. Media and democracy are two phase of a coin, which run
parallel to each other and always shows the true face of each other. Commonly
media is known as the fourth pillar of democracy and it walks hand in hand with
democracy.
Media came into existence in
1780 with the introduction of “Bengal Gazette” the renowned newspaper since
then it is growing leaps and bound over the night. In the starting, Newspaper
was the only thing in the name of media, but with the growth of technology it
has also changed. Now at present there are various form of media such as
Newspaper, Radio, T.V and various other electronic media. Media has a
great power of influencing the thought and views of common citizen. Media work
for the attachment of common people with the main stream, and make them aware
about the various social, economic and political activities happening in
the nation and world. Media has power to change the politics of a country, as
it reminds about the promises and manifesto of politicians at the time of
election. Media is the only thing which forces the politician to work according
to their manifesto. Media provide platform to the voice of common man and fight
for the common man. The modern technology and honest media journalist have left
no stone un-turned in revealing the rampant corruption in politics and society.
Media has both negative and positive impact on the society. As the news channel
gives excessive coverage to the sensitive news for the TRP. As the illiterate
man and youth can be persuaded easily, so excessive coverage of bad news
has negative impact on both and can lead to severe extent such as
communal riot, depression among youth and increasing number of suicide cases
among youth.
Media acts as the warden in
democracy which keeps eyes on the every activities of politicians, government
and common people. With the passage of time and development of new technology,
media has also changed and become more mature over the time. This fourth pillar
of society helps common men and make them aware of every situation, which in
turn make them capable of making good decision. Independent media leads to the
new era of democracy and we should welcome it.
Important things to keep in mind:
- As discussed, the above sample has been divide into three paragraphs per the expected word count.
- First paragraph- Highlight the argument, begin with related quotes or stats
- Second paragraph- Examples supporting argument, transitional words
- Third paragraph- Persuasive conclusion
- Vocabulary of varying complexity to be used.
- Always draft a rough sketch of the points you wish to write so that you make a proper sequence and do not miss out on any important information.
- Read a lot so that you have sufficient stuff to write.
- For a sensitive topic like this, be mindful of the words you use.
- Since this topic is very vast in its context, do not go into details for such topics. It is advisable that you describe the issue in general terms.
- Do not express views which may hurt the reader.
