State To Collaborate With Japanese Experts To Prevent Landslides
In order to address the problem of reoccurring landslides around the Parwanoo-Solan section of National Highway (NH)-5, the state government of Himachal Pradesh will collaborate with Japanese experts.

- As part of the collaborative effort, a team of Japanese experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) recently inspected the affected site.
- Initially, it has been observed that seepage of water is a cause for concern.
- In this regard, the experts have opined that basic countermeasures like removing the surface water by developing proper drainage on the slopes should be adopted.
- In Japanese expressway engineering, drainage is very important for such dangerous areas as seepage of water is a major issue.
- According to the Chief Advisor, operation and maintenance of mountainous highways, the members stressed on the need to undertake counter measures like developing an effective drainage system to contain erosion on the highway.
- Notably, huge damage was caused to this section of the highway after recent rains where mounds of debris had fallen at various spots.
- A section of the highway had also caved in near Sanwara along the valley side after appearance of cracks on the land surface.
- The team took stock of the site where seepage of water was continuing from the exposed hill though measures like channeling the water through pipes had been undertaken.
- In this regard, Japanese experts have observed that basic countermeasures like removing the surface water by developing proper drainage on the slopes should be adopted.
- In Japanese expressway engineering, drainage is very important for such dangerous areas as seepage of water is a major issue.
- It has further been pointed out that because of the budgetary constraint, it is very difficult to undertake perfect countermeasures though it is important for such dangerous areas that have a mix gradient.
- Besides, the experts have advised that concrete retaining walls should be constructed on the slopes for the safety of the road on this highway.

राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग (एनएच)-5 के परवाणु-सोलन खंड के आसपास बार-बार होने वाले भूस्खलन की समस्या के समाधान के लिए, हिमाचल प्रदेश राज्य सरकार जापानी विशेषज्ञों के साथ सहयोग करेगी।

- सहयोगात्मक प्रयास के हिस्से के रूप में, जापान इंटरनेशनल कोऑपरेशन एजेंसी (जेआईसीए) के जापानी विशेषज्ञों की एक टीम ने हाल ही में प्रभावित स्थल का निरीक्षण किया।
- प्रारंभ में, यह देखा गया है कि पानी का रिसाव चिंता का कारण है। इस संबंध में विशेषज्ञों की राय है कि ढलानों पर उचित जल निकासी विकसित करके सतही जल को हटाने जैसे बुनियादी उपाय अपनाए जाने चाहिए।
- जापानी एक्सप्रेसवे इंजीनियरिंग में, ऐसे खतरनाक क्षेत्रों के लिए जल निकासी बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि पानी का रिसाव एक प्रमुख मुद्दा है।
- पर्वतीय राजमार्गों के संचालन और रखरखाव के मुख्य सलाहकार के अनुसार, सदस्यों ने राजमार्ग पर कटाव को रोकने के लिए एक प्रभावी जल निकासी प्रणाली विकसित करने जैसे जवाबी उपाय करने की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया।
- विशेष रूप से, हाल ही में हुई बारिश के बाद राजमार्ग के इस खंड पर भारी क्षति हुई थी, जहां विभिन्न स्थानों पर मलबे के ढेर गिर गए थे।
- जमीन की सतह पर दरारें दिखने के बाद घाटी के किनारे सनवारा के पास राजमार्ग का एक हिस्सा भी धंस गया था।
- टीम ने उस स्थान का जायजा लिया जहां खुली पहाड़ी से पानी का रिसाव जारी था, हालांकि पाइप के माध्यम से पानी पहुंचाने जैसे उपाय किए गए थे।
- इस संबंध में, जापानी विशेषज्ञों ने पाया है कि ढलानों पर उचित जल निकासी विकसित करके सतही जल को हटाने जैसे बुनियादी उपाय अपनाए जाने चाहिए।

- इसके अलावा विशेषज्ञों ने सलाह दी है कि इस राजमार्ग पर सड़क की सुरक्षा के लिए ढलानों पर कंक्रीट की रिटेनिंग दीवारें बनाई जानी चाहिए।
