सिंगापुर में बनाया जा रहा है विश्व का सबसे बड़ा फ्लोटिंग सोलर फार्म

• विश्‍व में सबसे बड़ा फ्लोटिंग सौर फार्म सिंगापुर में बनाया जा रहा है। देश ने इस ऊर्जा संयंत्र को समुद्र तटों और जलाशयों पर स्थापित करने का निर्णय लिया है। यह फ्लोटिंग सोलर फार्म लाइट में स्थापित किया जा रहा है जो दुनिया भर में सबसे छोटे देशों में से एक होने के बावजूद, यह भारत में प्रति व्यक्ति कार्बन डाइऑक्साइड उत्सर्जकों में से एक है। इस प्रकार, जलवायु परिवर्तन के मुद्दे को पूरा करने और ग्रीनहाउस गैस उत्सर्जन में कटौती करने के लिए यह फ्लोटिंग सौर फार्म का निर्माण कर रहा है। यह प्रोजेक्ट सेम्बकॉर्प इंडस्ट्रीज द्वारा बनाया जा रहा है।

जम्मू-कश्मीर के LG मनोज सिन्हा ने किया प्रोजेक्ट "आवाम की बात" का उद्घाटन

• केंद्र शासित प्रदेश जम्मू और कश्मीर के उपराज्यपाल, मनोज सिन्हा ने जम्मू के राजभवन में अपनी वेबसाइट शुरू करके एक रेडियो कार्यक्रम "आवाम की बात" की शुरुआत की।
• महीने के हर तीसरे रविवार को (अप्रैल से शुरू करके) होने वाला आधे घंटे का एक रेडियो कार्यक्रम, एक व्यापक कार्यक्रम के कई अनुक्रमिक चरणों में से एक है, जिसका उद्देश्य सरकार द्वारा उठाए गए प्रगतिशील कदमों को प्रसारित करना और जनता को बोलने, लिखने और प्रशासन के साथ बातचीत करने के लिए, उनके सुझावों, विचारों और रचनात्मक प्रस्तावों को आवाज़ देने के लिए एक मंच प्रदान करना है।

KRAS ने MRSAM मिसाइलों का पहला बैच जारी किया

• कल्याणी राफेल एडवांस्ड सिस्टम्स, जो भारत के कल्याणी समूह और इजरायल के राफेल एडवांस्ड डिफेंस सिस्टम्स के बीच एक संयुक्त उद्यम है, ने मध्यम श्रेणी की सतह से वायु मिसाइल (MRSAM) किट का पहला बैच जारी किया है। मिसाइल को भारतीय थल सेना और भारतीय वायु सेना के लिए जारी किया गया था।

• यह भारत की निजी क्षेत्र की MSME है, जिसमें उन्नत विनिर्माण क्षमताएं और सुविधाएं शामिल हैं, जो विशेष रूप से अत्याधुनिक हथियार प्रणालियों की असेंबली, एकीकरण और परीक्षण (AIT) को संबोधित करने के लिए समर्पित है, जिन्हें भारत की रक्षा बलों में शामिल किया जा रहा है। KRAS भारतीय वायु सेना में प्रमुख इन-सर्विस एयर डिफेंस मिसाइल सिस्टम के रखरखाव और मरम्मत कार्यों (MRO) को भी संबोधित करता है।

टेस्ट क्रिकेट में दोहरा शतक बनाने वाले पहले अफगानिस्तानी खिलाड़ी बने हश्मतुल्लाह शहीदी

• अफगानिस्तान के हश्मतुल्लाह शहीदी टेस्ट क्रिकेट में दोहरा शतक बनाने वाले देश के पहले बल्लेबाज बने। उन्होंने अबू धाबी में जिम्बाब्वे के खिलाफ दूसरे टेस्ट के दूसरे दिन पर अपना पहला दोहरा शतक बनाया। उन्होंने 443 गेंदों में 21 चौकों और एक छक्के की मदद से नाबाद 200 रन बनाए और अफगानिस्तान ने अपनी पहली पारी में 545/4 के स्कोर पर पारी घोषित की।
• शहीदी ने केन्या के खिलाफ एकदिवसीय मैच में अंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रिकेट में पदार्पण करने के बाद से अफगानिस्तान के लिए पांच टेस्ट और 42 एकदिवसीय मैच खेले हैं। उन्होंने 2018 में बेंगलुरु में भारत के खिलाफ अफगानिस्तान के पहले टेस्ट से टेस्ट क्रिकेट में पदार्पण किया। अब तक 26 वर्षीय बाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज के नाम पांच टेस्ट मैचों में 347 रन और 42 वनडे मैचों में 1155 रन हैं।

मिशन सागर- IV के भाग के रूप में INS जलाश्व पोर्ट अंजुअन पहुंचा

• मिशन सागर- IV के भाग के रूप में, भारतीय नौसैनिक जहाज जलाश्व (Jalashwa), पोर्ट अंजुआन (Anjouan), कोमोरोस में 1,000 मीट्रिक टन चावल पहुंचाने के लिए पहुंचा। भारत सरकार की ओर से कोमोरोस की सरकार को खाद्य सहायता सौंपने के लिए एक आधिकारिक समारोह आयोजित किया गया था। भारतीय नौसेना का सबसे बड़ा द्विधा गतिवाला जहाज आईएनएस जलाश्व को बड़ी वहन क्षमता के कारण विशेष रूप से कोमोरोस भेजा गया है।
• खाद्य सहायता के रूप में 1000 मीट्रिक टन चावल की इस खेप को भारत के उपराष्ट्रपति वेंकैया नायडू (Venkaiah Naidu) द्वारा अक्टूबर 2019 के महीने में कोमोरोस की अपनी संक्षिप्त यात्रा के दौरान किए गए वादे के मद्देनजर कोमोरोस के लिए रवाना किया गया था। यह एक साल के भीतर द्वीप देश के लिए एक भारतीय नौसेना के जहाज की दूसरी यात्रा है। इससे पहले, मिशन सागर- I के भाग के रूप में, मई-जून 2020 में, भारतीय नौसेना ने राष्ट्र के लिए आवश्यक दवाइयां वितरित की थीं और अपने समकक्षों के साथ काम करने और डेंगू बुखार से संबंधित बीमारियों के लिए सहायता प्रदान करने के लिए एक विशेषज्ञ चिकित्सा दल भी तैनात किया था।

तंजानिया के राष्ट्रपति जॉन मगुफुली का निधन

• तंजानिया के राष्ट्रपति जॉन मगुफुली का दिल की बीमारी के कारण निधन हो गया है। "बुलडोजर" के उपनाम से लोकप्रिय, मगुफुली ने 2015 से तंजानिया के पांचवें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में 2021 में अपनी मृत्यु तक सेवा की।
• उन्होंने पहली बार अक्टूबर 2015 में राष्ट्रपति चुनाव जीता था और 5 नवंबर 2015 को पद की शपथ ली थी। उन्हें 2020 में फिर से चुना गया था।

नियुक्ति एवं इस्‍तीफे

डॉ. हर्षवर्धन को नियुक्त किया गया स्टॉप टीबी पार्टनरशिप बोर्ड का अध्यक्ष

• केंद्रीय स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन को अंतरराष्ट्रीय निकाय स्टॉप टीबी पार्टनरशिप बोर्ड का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया गया है। उन्हें 2025 तक भारत से तपेदिक के उन्मूलन के आंदोलन में उनके उत्कृष्ट योगदान के लिए नियुक्त किया गया था। वह निकाय की इस साल जुलाई से शुरू होने वाले तीन साल के कार्यकाल की सेवा करेंगे।
• टीबी के खिलाफ लड़ाई में दुनिया भर में नेताओं को एक साथ लाने की शक्ति रखने वाला स्टॉप टीबी पार्टनरशिप एक यूनिक अंतरराष्ट्रीय निकाय है।
• निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों की एक विस्तृत श्रृंखला की भागीदारी इस वैश्विक संस्था को टीबी को हराने के लिए आवश्यक वैश्विक और चिकित्सा, सामाजिक और वित्तीय विशेषज्ञता की व्यापक श्रेणी प्रदान करती है।

भारत में आयुध निर्माण दिवस: 18 मार्च

• आयुध निर्माण दिवस (Ordnance Factories’ Day) प्रतिवर्ष 18 मार्च को मनाया जाता है। भारत की सबसे पुरानी आयुध निर्माणी, जो कोलकाता के कोसीपोर में है, का उत्पादन 18 मार्च, 1802 को शुरू हुआ था। OFB दुनिया का 37 वां सबसे बड़ा, एशिया में दूसरा सबसे बड़ा और भारत में सबसे बड़ा रक्षा उपकरण निर्माता है।
• यह दिवस पूरे भारत में प्रदर्शनियों में राइफल, बंदूकें, तोपखाने, गोला-बारूद आदि को प्रदर्शित करके मनाया जाता है। समारोह की शुरुआत परेड के साथ होती है और प्रदर्शनी में विभिन्न पर्वतारोहण अभियानों की तस्वीरों को भी प्रदर्शित किया जाएगा।
• OFB को भारत के "चौथे रक्षा बल" और "सशस्त्र बलों के पीछे की सेना" के रूप में जाना जाता है।
• OFB रक्षा मंत्रालय के रक्षा उत्पादन विभाग के तहत काम कर रहा है।
• भारतीय आयुध निर्माणियां सभी तीन भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों अर्थात् भारतीय सेना, भारतीय नौसेना और भारतीय वायु सेना को उत्पादों की आपूर्ति करता है।

भारत-ब्राजील-दक्षिण अफ्रीका (IBSA) महिला फोरम की छठी बैठक का वर्चुली आयोजन

• भारत-ब्राजील-दक्षिण अफ्रीका (IBSA) महिला फोरम की छठी बैठक वर्चुली आयोजित की गई। फोरम में महिलाओं के जीवन में बदलाव लाने में योगदान करने वाले प्रमुख मुद्दों पर चर्चा की। सम्मेलन के अंत में, जीवन के सभी क्षेत्रों में लैंगिक समानता हासिल करने के लिए साझा IBSA लक्ष्यों और प्रतिबद्धताओं पर प्रकाश डालते हुए एक संयुक्त घोषणा पत्र भी जारी किया गया।
• भारत-ब्राजील-दक्षिण अफ्रीका त्रिपक्षीय सहयोग फोरम एक अनूठा मंच है जो तीन अलग-अलग महाद्वीपों से भारत, ब्राजील और दक्षिण अफ्रीका, तीन बड़े लोकतंत्रों और प्रमुख अर्थव्यवस्थाओं को एक साथ लाता है।
• बैठक का नेतृत्व महिला और बाल विकास मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्वारा किया गया था।
• IBSA अपने नागरिकों और अन्य विकासशील देशों के लोगों की भलाई के लिए, समावेशी सतत विकास के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।

बैंकिंग और आर्थिक

SBI और IOCL ने भारत के पहले लिबोर वैकल्पिक दर सौदे पर हस्ताक्षर किए

• भारतीय स्टेट बैंक (SBI) और इंडियन ऑयल कॉर्पोरेशन लिमिटेड (IOCL) पहले सुरक्षित ओवरनाइट फाइनेंसिंग रेट (SOFR) से जुड़े बाहरी वाणिज्यिक उधार (ECB) सौदे पर हस्ताक्षर करेंगे। सौदे पर हस्ताक्षर किए जाएंगे क्योंकि लंदन इंटरबैंक की प्रस्तावित दर (LIBOR) नामक वास्तविक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय बेंचमार्क संदर्भ दर दिसंबर 2021 के बाद बेंचमार्क के रूप में काम नहीं करेगी।
• भारतीय स्टेट बैंक ने कहा कि वह 5 वर्षों के लिए SOFR से जुड़े $100 मिलियन की व्यवस्था करेगा।
• LIBOR अब दिसंबर 2021 के बाद बेंचमार्क के रूप में काम नहीं करेगा। इस प्रकार, सिक्योर ओवरनाइट फाइनेंसिंग रेट (SOFR) और स्टर्लिंग ओवरनाइट इंटरबैंक औसत दर (SONIA) सबसे संभावित विकल्प हैं।
• लेकिन अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर इन विकल्पों से केवल कुछ स्वैप समझौते जुड़े हैं। लिबोर का उपयोग अभी भी बड़े पैमाने पर ऋण के लिए किया जाता है, जो वर्ष के भीतर परिपक्व हो रहे हैं।

INTERNATIONAL

World’s Largest Floating Solar Farms being built in Singapore

• The largest floating solar farm in the world is being built in Singapore. The country has resorted to set up energy plants off the coasts and reservoirs across it. This floating solar farm is being set up in the light that despite being one of the smallest countries across the world, it is one of the biggest per capita carbon dioxide emitters in India. Thus, to cater to the issue of climate change and to cut the greenhouse gas emission it is building the floating solar farm. This project is being built by Sembcorp Industries.
• Renewable energy is a challenge for Singapore because the country has no rivers for hydro-electricity. The wind is also not that strong to power the turbines. Thus, with the setting up of the floating solar farms, the authorities seek to change that notion. So, this tropical country has turned to solar power. Since, it has little land space, equal to half the size of Los Angeles, the country has decided to set up energy plants off its coasts and on reservoirs.

J&K LG Manoj Sinha inaugurates project “Awaam Ki Baat”

• Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, initiated the project “Awaam Ki Baat” – a Radio program by launching its website at Raj Bhavan, Jammu. The half-an-hour long Radio program to be aired every third Sunday of the month (to start from April), is one of the many sequential steps of a broader program aimed at disseminating the progressive steps taken by the government and providing the public with a platform to speak, write and interact with the administration, thereby voicing their suggestions, ideas and creative proposals.

KRAS releases First batch of MRSAM Missiles

• The Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS), which is a joint venture between the Kalyani Group of India and Rafael Advanced Defence Systems of Israel, have released the first batch of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) kits. The missile was released for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.
• The release of the MRSAM Missile also marked the KRAS’ commitment to delivering more than 1000 MRSAM missile kits to India in near future. These missile sections will then be sent for further and future integration to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL). The Kalyani Group has infused the “State-of-the-art technology with engineering excellence in the company.
• It is the private sector MSME of India comprising of advanced manufacturing capabilities and facilities which is specially dedicated to addressing the assembly, integration and testing (AIT) of the state-of-the-art weapon systems which are being inducted in India’s defence forces. KRAS also address the Maintenance and Repair Operations (MRO) of the major in-service Air Defence Missile System in the Indian Air Force.

Hashmatullah Shahidi becomes 1st afghan player to score Test double century

• Afghanistan’s Hashmatullah Shahidi became the first batsman from the country to register a double hundred in Test cricket. He got his first double century on Day Two of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi. He made 200 not out off 443 balls with 21 fours and one six as Afghanistan put up a mammoth 545 for 4 in their first innings.
• Shahidi has played five Tests and 42 ODIs for Afghanistan since making his international debut in an ODI against Kenya. He made his Test debut in Afghanistan’s first-ever Test, against India in Bengaluru in 2018. The 26-year-old left-handed batsman has 347 runs from five Tests and 1155 runs from 42 ODIs to his name thus far.

INS Jalashwa Arrives at Port Anjouan as part of Mission Sagar-IV

• As part of Mission Sagar-IV, Indian Naval Ship Jalashwa arrived at Port Anjouan, Comoros to deliver 1,000 Metric Tonnes of rice. An official ceremony for handing over the food aid from the Government of India to the Government of Comoros. INS Jalashwa, the largest amphibious ship of the Indian Navy, has been specially sent to Comoros due to its large carrying capacity.
• This consignment of 1000 metric tonnes of rice as food assistance was flagged off to Comoros in the light of a promise made by the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu during his brief visit to Comoros in the month of October 2019. This is the second visit of an Indian Navy ship to the island country within a span of one year. Earlier, as part of Mission Sagar-I, in May-June 2020, the Indian Navy had delivered essential medicines to the nation and had also deployed a specialist medical team to work alongside their counterparts and to render assistance for dengue fever-related emergencies.
• ‘Mission Sagar’, builds on the excellent relations existing between the two countries and deployment also resonates with the vision of our Prime Minister of Security and Growth for All in the Region ‘SAGAR’ and highlights the importance accorded by India to relations with the countries of the IOR. The operation is being progressed in close coordination with the Ministries of External Affairs, and other agencies of the Government of India.

OBITUARY

Tanzanian President John Magufuli passes away

• The President of Tanzania, John Magufuli has passed away following a heart ailment. Popularly nicknamed the “Bulldozer”, Magufuli served as the fifth President of Tanzania from 2015 until his death in 2021.
• He first won the presidential election in October 2015 and was sworn in on 5 November 2015. He was re-elected in 2020.

Dr Harsh Vardhan appointed as chairman of ‘Stop TB Partnership Board’

• Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan has been appointed as the Chairman of the international body Stop TB Partnership Board. He was appointed in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the movement to eradicate Tuberculosis from India by 2025. He will serve a three-year term, commencing from July this year.
• The Stop TB Partnership is a unique international body with the power to align actors all over the world in the fight against TB.
• The participation of a wide range of constituencies gives this global body the credibility and the broad range of medical, social and financial expertise needed to defeat TB.
• The Partnership’s vision is a TB-free world.
• The appointment of Dr Harsh Vardhan as the Chair of this prestigious global body is a proud recognition of India’s political commitment to the eradication of TB.
• Established in the year 2000, the ‘Stop TB Partnership’ is mandated to eliminate Tuberculosis as a public health problem.

Ordnance Factories’ Day in India: 18 March

• The Ordnance Factories’ Day is observed on the 18th of March every year. The production of India’s oldest Ordnance Factory, which is at Cossipore of Kolkata, was started on the 18th of March, 1802. OFB is the 37th largest defence equipment manufacturer in the world, 2nd largest in Asia, and the largest in India.
• The day is celebrated by displaying the rifles, guns, artillery, ammunition etc in exhibitions all over India. The celebrations start with a parade and the exhibition will also display the photographs of various mountaineering expeditions.
• OFB is referred to as the “Fourth Arm of Defence” and the “Force Behind the Armed Forces” of India.
• OFB is functioning under the Department of Defence Production of the Ministry of Defence.
• The Indian Ordnance Factories supplies products to all three Indian Armed Forces. ie the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air force.
• The Arms and Ammunition, Weapon Spares, Chemicals & Explosives, Parachutes, Leather and Clothing items are being exported to more than 30 countries worldwide.

6th India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Women’s Forum held Virtually

• The Sixth India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Women’s Forum meeting was held virtually. The Forum discussed key issues that contribute towards the transformation of women’s lives. At the end of the conference, a joint declaration was also issued highlighting the shared IBSA goals and commitments for achieving gender equality in all spheres of life.
• The India-Brazil-South Africa Trilateral Cooperation Forum is a unique platform that brings together India, Brazil and South Africa, three large democracies and major economies from three different continents.
• The meeting was led by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
• IBSA is committed to inclusive sustainable development, in pursuit of the well-being of its citizens and those from other developing nations.
• The principles, norms and values underpinning the IBSA Dialogue Forum are participatory democracy, respect for human rights, the Rule of Law and the strengthening of multilateralism. IBSA lays efforts in South-South cooperation beyond the conventional areas of exchange of experts and training.

BANKING AND ECONOMY

SBI and IOCL to ink India’s First Libor Alternative Rate Deal

• The State Bank of India (SBI) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) will sign the first Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) linked external commercial borrowing (ECB) deal. The deal will be signed because the de facto international benchmark reference rate called the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) will no longer work as the benchmark after December 2021.
• The state bank of India highlighted that it will be arranging $100 million linked to SOFR for 5 years.
• The LIBOR will no longer work as the benchmark after December 2021. Thus, the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) and Sterling Overnight Interbank Average Rate (SONIA) are the most potential alternatives.
• But only a few swap deals are linked to these alternatives at the international level. Libor is still used extensively especially for loans that are getting matured within the year.
