1. Pekka Lundmark appointed CEO of Nokia

  • Pekka Lundmark has been appointed as the CEO (Chief executive officer) of Nokia.
  •  Present Nokia Chief Executive Mr.  Rajeev Suri will leave his current position on 31st August 2020 and continue to serve as an advisor to the Nokia board until 1st January 2021.
  • Nokia faces intense competition from Sweden’s Ericsson and China’s Huawei in the race to deliver 5G telecoms networks to operators around the world.

  • Senior JD(U) leader & Lok Sabha MP from Valmiki Nagar, Baidyanath Mahto (70-years) passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
  • Mr. Mahto won the Valmiki Nagar seat in 2019 general election and also represented the seat in 2009.
  • He had represented Nautan assembly seat thrice.

3. GST collection crosses Rs one lakh crore mark in February

  • Government has collected over one lakh five thousand crore rupees as Goods and Services Tax in February this year which is eight per cent more than the GST collected in the same month of last year.
  • Out of the total revenue, Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) is over 20 thousand crore rupees, State Goods and Service Tax (SGST) is over 27 thousand crore and Integrated Goods and Service Tax (IGST) is over 48 thousand crore rupees.

  • Veteran athletics coach and Dronacharya awardee Joginder Singh Saini (90-years) passed away in Patiala due to age-related problems.
  • Mr. Saini remained the chief national athletics coach for many years from the 1970s to 90s.
  • Saini received the Dronacharya Award in 1997 for his contribution to Indian athletics.
  • Saini was a science graduate and became an athletics coach in 1954.
