1. National Girl Child Day being observed today

  • The National girl child day is celebrated every year on 24th January as a national observance day for the girl child.
  • The day promotes the girl’s position in society to make their living better among society people.
  • It was started by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of India in 2008.

2. RFI lifts Dattu Bhokanal's ban after IOA's intervention


  • Indian Rower Dattu Bhokanal’s suspension has been lifted after the intervention of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
  • He was banned by the Rowing Federation of India in March last year.
  • Bhokanal was one of the Indian quartets that won gold in the men's quadruple sculls event in the Asian Games but later left the single sculls race midway.

  • Uttar Pradesh state celebrates its 70th foundation day today.
  • Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with members of state cabinet grace the occasion.
  • Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world.
  • Earlier, Uttar Pradesh was known as United Province but through a Gazette notification, it got its name of Uttar Pradesh on January 24, 1950.

  • International Day of Education is an annual international observance day held on 24th January and is dedicated to education.
  • This year’s theme is “Learning for people, planet, prosperity and peace”.
  • On December 3, 2018, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring January 24 as ‘International Day of Education.’

5. Delhi airport has an all-women cab service now


  • An exclusive taxi service named ‘Women with wheels’ has been launched from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
  • The service can be availed for any part of Delhi.
  • The cabs are run exclusively for women commuters and are driven by women drivers who are hired from an NGO named Azad Foundation.
  • A man with the family, including a female, can be allowed under the service.

6. Uttarakhand DMMC gets S C Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar


  • Disaster Mitigation and Management Centre (DMMC) Uttarakhand, (institution category) and Kumar Munnan Singh (individual category) have been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar 2020.
  • The winning institution receives a certificate & cash prize of Rs 51 lakhs(individual-Rs 5 lakh).
  • The award was instituted to recognise the excellent work done by individuals & institutions in India in the field of disaster Mgmt.

7. North Korea to attend Munich Security Conference 1st time


  • North Korea will send a delegation to the Munich Security Conference (MSC) for the first time in the 56-year history of the top diplomatic gathering in Munich, Germany (14 to 16th February)
  • The self-imposed ban on tests had been the centrepiece of two years of nuclear diplomacy between the US & North Korea.
  • The MSC (founded -1963) hosts hundreds of high-ranking officials and dozens of world leaders each year to discuss security challenges.

8. Niti Aayog to develop National Data & Analytic Platform


  • Niti Aayog has announced to develop a National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP) to make all government data accessible to stakeholders in a user-friendly manner.
  • NDAP is a flagship initiative of NITI Aayog in the space of promoting larger access & better use of data, tailored to the needs of policymakers, data scientists, journalists and citizens alike.
  • National Data and Analytics Platform (1st version) is proposed to be released in 2021.

9. International Children Film Festival started in Bangladesh


  • The 13th edition of the International Children’s Film Festival of Bangladesh was inaugurated in Dhaka.
  • The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Under The World’.
  • It will feature 173 films from 39 countries including Bangladesh, India, France, Korea, Spain and others.
  • The festival organized by the Children’s Film Society, Bangladesh.
  • The festival was inaugurated with the screening of the German film ‘Rocca Changes the World’ directed by Katja Benrath.

10. Reliance Jio becomes 1st Telecom to launch UPI Payments Feat


  • India's telecom operator Reliance Jio has become the 1st telecom operator to facilitate UPI payments feature through its platform.
  • It has launched the feature on the MyJio app rather than its wallet app, JioMoney.
  • Now, This Reliance Jio will compete with other private UPI payment providers such as Paytm,  PhonePe and Google Pay.
  • The users cannot use their existing UPI ids to avail this service instead, they will have to create a new JIO UPI Id.

11. UN lowers India’s GDP growth rate to 5.7%


  • As per the World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2020 report, The United Nations has lowered India’s GDP growth rate to 5.7% for the Fiscal Year 2019-20.
  • UN has also projected India’s growth rate at 6.6% for FY 2020-21 & 6.3% for FY 2021-22.
  • China has a higher growth rate than India among the world's large economies with 6% for the FY 2019-20.
