BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The Union Finance Ministry doubled pecuniary limit to Rs. 20 lakh from Rs.10 lakh for filing loan recovery application in Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRT) by banks and financial institutions.
  • Singapore-based global investment firm Temasek signed agreement to invest up to Rs 2,750 crore ($400 million) in National Investment and Infrastructure Fund’s (NIIF) Master Fund.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced Internal Ombudsman (IO) scheme 2018 to tighten internal grievance redressal system at Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs).
    • RBI has given statutory powers to Internal Ombudsman (IO) under section 35 A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
  • Union Cabinet decided to indefinitely extended Atal Pension Scheme, which had lapsed in Aug 2018.
  • The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) approved a proposal by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to increase the wages of artisans by over 36%, from Rs 5.50 per hank previously to Rs 7.50 per hank.
    • The proposal for an increase in wages to khadi spinners along with payment of government subsidy
      • Modified Market Development Assistance (MMDA) — has been approved with effect from Aug 15, 2018.
  • According to the data reported by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Mauritius was top source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into India in 2017-18 followed by Singapore.

NATIONAL NEWS
  • The 6th International Geriatric Orthopaedic Society of India Conference 2018 has been inaugurated by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi with the theme 'Increased Longevity with Reduced Fragility and Enhanced Mobility'.
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has launched Coffee Connect India coffee field force app & Coffee KrishiTharanga an IVR-based digital mobile extension service for coffee sector which would help farmers increase production and improve quality.
  • The Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC-2018), organized by the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, will be held in New Delhi from Sept 29 to mark the beginning of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Indian movie ‘Gold’ has created history by becoming the first Bollywood film ever to release in Saudi Arabia.
    • Reema Kagti is the Director of movie ‘Gold’. It is a fictional re-telling of India’s iconic win at the 1948 London Olympics.
  • Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry launched National Mission on Govt eMarketplace (GeM) for increasing awareness and accelerating use of GeM by major central Ministries, State Govts and their agencies.
  • The International Aviation Summit 2018 held in New Delhi, which was jointly organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the Airports Authority India (AAI) and International Air Transport Association (IATA).
  • Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation prepared draft Bill which proposes setting up armed Ganga Protection Corps (GPC) to arrest any person who has committed offence of polluting River Ganga punishable under this law.
  • The draft Bill proposes imprisonment for 2 years or fine of Rs 2 lakh or both for commercial fishing or aqua culture activities in Ganga and any of its tributaries.
    • Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) will convene special meeting of Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC) to decide on field-trial approvals for transgenic mustard DMH-11 developed by University of Delhi’s Centre for Genetic Manipulation of Crop Plants (CGMCP).
  • Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has officially decided to participate in Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) after gap of nine years.
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved establishment and operationalization of permanent campus of seven new Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
  • The National Nutrition Month (Rashtriya Poshan Maah) is being celebrated across the country in Sept 2018 to mark fight against malnutrition.
  • Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare  released draft Charter  of Patients’ Rights  prepared by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
  • Union Health Ministry released draft rules on sale of drugs by e-pharmacies to regulate online sale of medicines across India.
  • Union Govt has received Rs. 3,000 crore of additional tax from MNCs that have entered into advance pricing agreements (APAs) with it over last five years and also has eliminated big source of tax litigation.
  • NITI Aayog constituted group of experts has submitted report titled 'Inventory and Revival of Springs in the Himalayas for Water Security.'
  • India along with 23 other nations will be participating in major Indian ocean-wide tsunami mock exercise known as IOWave18.
  • National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog flagged off cycle rally MOVE Cyclathon to spread message of clean mobility to the Indian public and promote cleaner, accessible modes of transport.
  • The Union Home Ministry announced that Census 2021 for the first time in independent India will collect data on Other Backwards Castes (OBCs).

STATE NEWS
  • State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has made oil and gas discoveries in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal that may potentially open up two new sedimentary basins in country.
  • The Rajasthan govt has decided to provide free mobile phones to women of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families under the Bhamashah Yojana to boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship ‘Digital India’ campaign.
  • Ministry of Tourism Ministry sanctions Rs. 80.37 crore for developing cruise tourism in Kerala
  • Union Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared proposal of Jharkhand Govt to rename Nagar Untari town and railway station as Banshidhar Nagar, after Banshidhar Temple, which is dedicated to Krishna in Garhwa district of state.
  • Union Territory of Puducherry bagged top position in National Clean School Award after seven schools from Puducherry were awarded for cleanliness.
  • The Rajasthan govt has decided to organise special employment camps in all district headquarters of the state to give government jobs to at least one person from the family of those who were martyred after 1947 but none of their kin was given a job.
  • The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development had inaugurated widows’ home ‘Krishna Kutir’ at Vrindavan in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Madhya Pradesh govt has organized an interactive programme 'Mil -Banche' in govt schools of state.

  • International Women Entrepreneurs Summit 2018, inaugurated by Vice President of Nepal Nanda Bahadur Pun held in Kathmandu, capital of Nepal from Sept 3 to 5, 2018 with the theme 'Equality begins with Economic Empowerment'.
  • The third ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Conference on 'Global Ageing and Human Rights of Older Persons', organised by South Korea and National Human Rights Commission of Korea, held in Seoul, capital of South Korea.
  • The 2018 edition of Maralal International Camel Derby event held at Maralal town in Kenya.
  • The fourth International Ayurveda Congress (IAvC) was held in Leiden, Netherlands from Sept 1 to 2, 2018.
  • The  6th  East  Asia  Summit-Economic  Ministers’  Meeting  (EAS-EMM)  and  15th  India-ASEAN  Economic Ministers’ Meeting (AEM) was held in Singapore.
  • Asia Index Pvt Ltd has launched S&P BSE Private Banks Index to measure the performance of private banks.
  • China pledged $60 billion of financial assistance to Africa bolster industry, counter hunger, and enhance security in the continent.

  • India and France signed agreement to collaborate for ISRO’s first human space mission Gaganyaan to be launched in 2022.
  • India and France signed implementation agreement on Mobilise Your City (MYC) to support three pilot cities – Nagpur, Kochi and Ahmedabad for reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to urban transport.
  • India and Czech Republic have signed five agreements on defence, scientific and industrial research, laser technology, agriculture and diplomatic visa waiver.
  • India and Bulgaria signed four MoUs in fields of Civil Nuclear cooperation, investment, Tourism and establishment of Hindi chair at Sofia University.
