BANKING & ECONOMY

• Axis Bank becomes the first bank in the country to introduce Iris Scan Authentication feature for Aadhaar-based transactions through its micro ATM tablets.
• India’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI) launched its Multi Option Payment Acceptance Device (MOPAD) for digital payments convenience of merchants and consumers.
• According to data released by Central Statistics Office (CSO), factory output measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had reported five-month high to 7% in Jun 2018.
• Bajaj Allianz General Insurance entered into a bancassurance deal with Vijaya Bank.
• India's best pay later option PayU and Reliance Money has entered into strategic partnership for instant app-based personal loans via LazyPay to provide loan amount start from as low as Rs. 100 and will extend up to Rs. 1,00,000 with a duration varying from 15 days to 24 months.
• HSBC has launched a new digital platform—MyDeal to simplify capital raising process through capital markets by providing real-time access to information such as investors’ feedback, profiles, client orders and deal pricing.
• PayPal, a global technology platform and digital payments leader, has announced its strategic partnership with HDFC Bank to offer safer, faster and convenient payment experiences for the bank's card holders.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) transferred surplus (dividend) of Rs. 50,000 crore to Govt for year ended in Jun 2018, over 63% more than Rs 30,659 crore which it transferred in 2017.
• The  Appointments  Committee  of  Cabinet  (ACC)  approved  appointment  of  Chartered  Accountant, Swaminathan Gurumurthy and businessman, Satish Kashinath Marathe as another non-official director on Central Board of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
• The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) for getting Long Term Unsecured Loan of Rs 25000 crore for 10 years with 3 years of moratorium on repayments.
• The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has decided to start a pilot project to give cashbacks to consumers in order to incentivise digital payments in the country.

• The Human Resource Development Ministry has launched a programme, 'Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds' (SWAYAM) to provide one integrated platform and portal for online courses.

• NITI Aayog’s International Conference on 'Sustainable Growth through Material Recycling: Policy
• Prescriptions' has been held at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in New Delhi.
• The Union Govt has informed Lok Sabha that Non-Resident Indians (NRI) cannot file Right to Information (RTI) applications to seek governance-related information from Central government departments.
• The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched Niryat Mitra mobile application for exporters and importers of the country.
• The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highway (MoRTH) launched two IT initiative Bidder Information Management System (BIMS) and Bhoomi Rashi and PFMS linkage to expedite pre construction processes relating to bidding and land acquisition respectively.
• The Union Home Ministry excluded 29 inhabited islands in Andaman and Nicobar from Restricted Area Permit (RAP) regime under the Foreigners (Restricted Areas) Order, 1963 till Dec 2022.
• The world’s first-ever thermal battery plant owned by Bharat Energy Storage Technology Private Limited (BEST) was inaugurated in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh.
• The 10th International conference on oral implantology has been held in New Delhi to enhance the awareness and knowledge on the latest innovations and technologies in oral implantology world over.

• Parliament passed Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018 prescribing death penalty to those convicted of raping girls below age of 12 years and making law against such sexual offences more stringent.
• The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) launched a dedicated portal, Forum of Cargo Owners and Logistics Operators (FOCAL) to connect cargo owners and shippers with real time data on availability of vessels.
• The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) approved 122 new research project proposals worth Rs 112 crore for funding under its IMPRINT-II (Impacting Research Innovation and Technology) scheme.

• The Mizoram govt is going to start the repatriation process of Bru (Reang) tribals from Tripura to Mizoram from Aug 14 to Sept 10.
• The eleventh edition of the India Art Fair 2019 will be held from Jan 31 to Feb 03 in New Delhi.
• The leading media group of Kerala, Mathrubhumi launched its new venture ‘Mathrubhumi Media School’ in Kochi.
• Delhi High Court declared 25 sections of Bombay Prevention of Begging Act, 1959 which have been extended to Delhi, as 'unconstitutional'.
• The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the ‘One District One Product’ Summit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
• The 22nd edition of ‘Parampara series – National Festival of Music and Dance’ festival held at Kamani Auditorim in New Delhi.
• The Telangana govt signed pact with Tech Mahindra to establish the Blockchain district in Hyderabad, a first-of-its-kind Centre of Excellence for Blockchain.
• Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve in Himalayan state of Sikkim has been included in UNESCO designated World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR), making it 11th Biosphere Reserve from India to achieve this recognition.
• Startup India launched the Startup Academia Alliance programme, which is a unique mentorship opportunity between academic scholars and startups working in similar domains, to fulfill the Indian Govt’s mission to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship in the country.
• The Election Commission of India (ECI) conducted the first-ever Orientation Workshop on Election Management for IAS Asstt Secretaries in New Delhi.
• The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved an unemployment allowance scheme 'Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestam' through which an allowance of Rs 1000 per month will be provided to unemployed youth in the state.
• The Telangana govt is planning to setup a state of the art 'B-Hub' with an outlay of Rs. 60 crore for biotech and biopharma sector in Genome Valley, Hyderabad.
• The Manipur govt has constituted two committees at state and district level to deal with a possible influx of illegal immigrants, following the publication of the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.
• The iconic Mughalsarai Railway Junction in Uttar Pradesh has been renamed as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction Railway station.
• Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman has launched Defence India start up Challenge in Bengaluru to build an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship in defence sector and make India self-reliant for meeting defence requirements.

1. Parliament passed Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2018 to replace Ordinance promulgated by President in May 2018.
2. Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) has signed MoU with National Medicinal Plant Board to promote Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) forest produced for livelihood development of tribal people by promoting primary level value addition to MAPs produce from forest area at the grassroots level.
3. Italian motorcycle-maker Benelli signed MoU with the Telangana govt to set up a manufacturing facility at Medichal, Pochampally, Hyderabad.
4. The Union Cabinet given approval for raising of four additional battalions of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to strengthen the India’s disaster response set up.
5. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved release of pulses to States/UTs at discounted rate to be utilized for various Welfare Schemes from stock of pulses procured under Price Support Schemes (PSS).
6. CCEA approved continuation and revision of Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Post Matric Scholarship for Other Backward Classes Students for studying in India (PMS-OBC) till 2020.
7. Union Cabinet approved extension of term of Commission to examine the issue of Sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Central List till Nov 2018.
8. CCEA approved continuation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) beyond 12th Five Year Plan period (2012–2017).
9. The NITI Aayog and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) signed MoU on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and entered into three-year partnership.
10. The Union Govt doubled import duties on 328 textile products to 20% from existing rate of 10% under Section 159 of the Customs Act, 1962.
11. The premier institute of Ayurveda under the AYUSH Ministry, All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) signed MoU with IIT Delhi to boost research in traditional medicine and streamline hospital care facilities in the country.
12. The Union Govt, NABARD and National Water Development Agency (NWDA) signed revised Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for funding of central share of 99 prioritized irrigation projects under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) through Long Term Irrigation Fund (LTIF).

14. Lok Sabha unanimously passed Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2018 to reverse effects of Supreme Court order concerning certain safeguards against arrests under SC/ST law.
15. Parliament passed Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Third Amendment) Bill, 2017 to provide constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
16. President gave assent to Negotiable Instruments (Amendment) Act, 2018.
• It aimed at allowing a court to try offences related to cheque bounce expeditiously and direct the drawee to pay a minimum of 20% of cheque amount as interim compensation.
17. President gave assent to State Banks (Repeal and Amendment) Act to repeal two other laws State Bank of India (Subsidiary Banks) Act, 1959 and State Bank of Hyderabad Act, 1956.
18. President gave assent (under Article 111) to Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 passed by Parliament.
19. Union Finance Ministry further extended deadline on imposing import duty hike on 29 products, imported from United States (US) by 45 days till Sept 18, 2018 from earlier Aug 4, 2018.
20. PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish India-Nepal Centre.
