1. PM Modi to hold talks with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta

  • India’s Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta on the first leg of his 3-nation visit to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
  • Mr. Modi holds delegation level talks with Indonesian President ‘Joko Widodo’ in Jakarta.
  • India and Indonesia are expected to sign a number of agreements in the fields of defense, space and science, and technology.
  • Mr. Modi and Indonesian President will jointly inaugurate a Kite Festival and witness a Kite Exhibition that will showcase the strong civilizational linkages between the two countries.
  • Prime Minister will also visit Monas - the main landmark of Jakarta, next to the Presidential Palace.

2. Goa Celebrates its Statehood Day today

  • Today, Goa celebrates its Statehood Day.
  • On 30th May 1987, Goa became India's 25th state and Daman & Diu were separated from Goa and continue to be administered as a union territory.
  • Earlier, Goa was a union territory (namely, Goa, Daman, and Diu) for all administrative and governance considerations.

3. RBI has got its first-ever chief financial officer ‘Sudha Balakrishnan’

  • Sudha Balakrishnan has been appointed the first-ever chief financial officer (CFO) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a period of three years.
  • She would be responsible for the Central Bank’s budgetary process and its financial activities and performance.
  • Earlier she was the vice-President at National Securities depository ltd., NSDL (India’s first and largest depository).
  • She will draw a salary of Rs. 2 lakh a month with housing facilities.
About RBI
  • India's central banking institution RBI, which controls the monetary policy of the Indian rupee, established on 1st April 1935.
  • RBI nationalized on 1st January 1949.

4. Paraguay gets its 1st Woman interim President

  • Paraguay will have a woman President (interim) Alicia Pucheta (68-year) for the first time in its history after outgoing leader Horacio Cartes stepped down.
  • Vice President Alicia Pucheta will complete Cartes’s mandate after he resigned to become a senator.
  • The parliament is due to confirm Cartes’s resignation and proclaim Pucheta as interim president.
  • Paraguay has just eight women among its 45 senators, and 11 among the 80 members of the lower house.

5. Defence Secretary gets additional charge as DRDO chief

  • The Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra to hold additional charge of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) after its head S. Christopher's tenure ended on 28th May.
  • Earlier, Mr. Christopher was given one year's extension beyond the prescribed age last year.
  • DRDO was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production with the Defence Science Organisation.
Note:
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is an agency charged with the military's research and development, headquartered in New Delhi, India.
  • It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

6. Justice R K Agrawal to be next NCDRC President

  • Justice R K Agrawal (Former Supreme Court Judge) has been appointed as the President of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
  • He replaced Justice D.K. Jain.
  • The NCDRC deals with consumer rights and addresses their disputes and grievances, set up in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.

7. Power Minister R K Singh launches web portal and App called ‘PRAAPTI’

  • The Union Power Minister ‘R K Singh’ has launched a web portal and app called ‘PRAAPTI’ to bring transparency in power payments to generators at a function in New Delhi.
  • The portal praapti.in has been developed to bring transparency in power purchase transactions between Generators and power distribution company DISCOMs.
  • The app will also allow users to know the details related to the payments made by the Discoms to the power generation company and when they were made.

8. Madhya Pradesh govt decides to regularise 2 lakh, 37,000 contractual teachers

  • Madhya Pradesh cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has decided to regularise 2 lakhs 37 thousand contractual teachers in the state.
  • The state Cabinet also decided that the contractual staffers will be given 15 days privilege leave, 13 days casual leave and 10 days other leave in a calendar year.

9. 4th International Yoga Day Celebrations main event to be organized in Dehradun

  • Dehradun (capital of Uttarakhand) will be the venue for this year’s national programme on the International Yoga Day (IDY-2018) on 21st June 2018.
  • According to the chief minister of Uttarakhand 'Trivendra Singh Rawat', Prime Minister Modi will participate in the national programmes to be organized in Dehradun to mark the Yoga Day.
Note:
  • International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually on 21st June since its inception in 2015.
  • The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.

10. Patanjali ties up with BSNL for Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards

  • Baba Ramdev’s ‘Patanjali’ has launched ‘Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards’ in alliance with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
  • Initially, only the employees and office bearers of Patanjali will be able to avail the benefits of the SIM card.
  • After its full-fledged launch, people will get discount of 10% on Patanjali products with this card.
  • Just with the recharge of Rs 144, one would be able to make unlimited calls across the country, get 2 GB data pack and send 100 SMS.
  • The card also comes with the medical and life insurance covers of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, respectively (in the case of road accident).

11. Diya Mirza flags Off ‘Gaj Yatra’ in Meghalaya

  • Bollywood actress Diya Mirza flag off the ‘Gaj Yatra’ as the brand ambassador of the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) at an event organized in Meghalaya.
  • WTI and the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, formally launched the unique campaign the Gaj Yatra in Meghalaya.
  • Gaj Yatra’, a “journey celebrating India’s national heritage animal”, aims at securing 100 elephant corridors across India.
