IDBI Executive Exam Pattern 2018

The examination for the post of IDBI Executive Officers will be conducted online and will comprise of mainly three sections: Reasoning, English Language, and Quantitative Aptitude. The duration of the examination will be 90 minutes and each section will comprise of 50 questions that will carry 01 mark each. Here is the complete structure of examination:

Now, we will be discussing section wise strategies for all the three sections that will be asked in the examination:

English Language Section

You can score the maximum marks in English section with some decent practice. This section is less time-consuming.

  • Reading Comprehension – You can expect 10-12 questions in this section. If you are good at Reading Comprehension we suggest you approach it in the beginning. You must make a habit of looking for keywords while reading the passage. You can expect passages based on Banking & Economy, Business, Governance, Education, Technology, Transport and Social Issues etc. To score good marks in this section solve as many quizzes you can.
  • Cloze Test – 8 to 10 questions are expected from this topic. Start practicing daily and start attempting quizzes on Cloze Test. For ease of solving, you should be able to understand the context of the passage.
  • Sentence Improvement/Phrase Replacement, Fill in the Blanks, Para Jumbles – You can expect 4-5 Questions from each topic. The types of questions asked will include correcting the incorrect sentence, filling the blanks with the appropriate word and arrangements of sentences to form a meaningful paragraph.
  • Error Spotting – You can expect 8 – 10 questions from this topic. Error Spotting questions will consist of Long Sentences with the error in one part, Article-Noun Agreement, Correct Part of Speech, Correct use of Prepositions, Phrasal Verbs, Contextual Usage, Sentence Construction, Degrees of Comparison etc. You will be able to identify the errors in no time and score good marks if you practice well.
  • Sentence Completion – You can expect 0 – 10 Sentence Completion questions from this topic. In some shifts, questions from this topic may not be asked. For scoring good marks in this question, you have to practice a lot. You can also solve online quizzes to improve your speed.

Reasoning Ability Section

There is no sectional timing in the Objective Type Test. You can score easily good marks in reasoning ability section with constant practice.
  • Arrangements & Pattern –3 to 5 questions can be expected from this topic. There will be questions based on the Random sequence of Alphabet, Number Arrangement, Mixed series & Dictionary Order. You must practice at least 10 sets from each of topic for scoring good marks. In Number Arrangement, questions are either based on groups of 5 numbers each of 3 digits or a series of numbers. You should solve more mock tests and quizzes to increase your speed and become able to solve them with ease.
  • Coding & Decoding – In the coding-decoding topic, questions will be based on the Coding – Decoding fictitious language. Around 3 – 5 questions can be expected from this topic. Once you get familiar with the fictitious language, you can achieve 100% accuracy. Attempt 10 sets each on Coding (Fictitious Language) and Coding (by Analogy) whereas at least 20 questions on Coding (by Letter Shifting). Practice Coding & Decoding Quiz here.
  • Distance & Direction – You have to solve Direction and Distance questions with special attention. Try the more difficult questions on your own without looking at the solutions. This will help you figure out how to approach these questions and you can be confident of tackling any problem in the exam. You can expect 1-3 questions from this topic in the exam.
  • Inequalities, Syllogisms, Machine Input & Output, Data Sufficiency – These are important topics that asked in the objective test. Around 5 questions can come from each of these topics. Daily practice of 5-10 questions will help you to score good marks in these topics. You can schedule your practice by solving questions daily from each topic. You should check whether you remember the concepts or not.
  • Blood Relations – There will be 3-5 questions based on the Family tree, Coded blood Relation etc. They should be very clear in your mind. You can draw family trees for visual clarity.
  • Verbal Reasoning – Verbal Reasoning questions are comparatively mere time-consuming. If you improve your solving speed for Statements and Conclusions, Statements and Assumptions, Statements and Inferences, Cause and Effect, Course of Action, Critical Reasoning etc based problems, you can score good marks. 5-6 questions can be expected from this topic.
  • Seating Arrangements – 5 questions will come from Linear and Circular Arrangements topics. The questions will be based on Persons sitting in a single row/dual row, Uni & Bi-directional problems on circular or square.
  • Puzzles – There will be questions from the topics of Scheduling, Floor Puzzles & Order and Ranking. Questions will be asked on Days, Week, Timing, Years, Persons living in different floors of a building, Order in a row, Arranging the persons by age, height, weight, rank etc.

Quantitative Aptitude Section

Quantitative section is the most time-consuming section of all. You need to practice a lot in order to score good marks in the given time.
  • Data Interpretation – 5 questions can be expected from this topic. If you don’t practice this topic, you may find it very time-consuming in the exam. The questions will be based on Line Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tabulation, Maybe the combination of two DI can be asked. Also, there are high chances that Missing DI or Caselet DI can be asked. Thus, before attempting the questions, you must perceive the data or graph carefully, understand the concept and then proceed with the problem.
  • Simplification, Quadratic Equations, Number series – You can expect 5 questions from each topic. These are easy-moderate level questions. The questions will be based on BODMAS Rule, Approximation, Decimals, Fractions, Surds & Indices, Percentages, Complete the Series, Find the Missing Term, Find the Wrong Term etc.
  • Miscellaneous Topics – Other topics in quantitative aptitude are Average, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Mensuration, Interest, Profit & Loss, Speed Time Distance, Permutation & Combination etc

Key-points for IDBI Executive Exam 2018

  • Time management: It is important for the candidates to manage your time accordingly when you take up any section. It is advised that they should not spend too much time solving one tricky question.
  • Try to Grab short-cut methods and formulas: All the candidates are required to have a proper understanding of the formulas and shortcuts of solving the questions. This will help you in solving the questions accurately.
  • Don’t be anxious: Do not get anxious at the eleventh-hour of the exam. Revise your notes and get ready for the exam.
  • Practice of previous year question papers: You should go through previous year question papers as many questions get repeated over time.
