BANKING & ECONOMY
  • According to the World Bank’s latest report, "India Development Update – India’s Growth Story" India’s GDP growth projected at 7.3% for FY 19 (2018-19) and is expected to accelerate further to 7.5% in 2019-20.
  • The Union Govt inked $120 million loan agreement with Asian Development Bank (ADB) for completion of projects to improve Rail Infrastructure along high-density corridors and operational efficiency of Indian railways.
  • The ICICI Bank launched instant overdraft ‘InstaOD’ facility for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in a completely online and paperless manner in which customers will be able to get overdraft facility up to Rs 15 lakh for a year anytime, anywhere using the bank’s Internet and mobile banking app.
  • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) inked an MoU with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for increased cooperation in effective implementation of insolvency law.
  • India’s FDI reaching US $208.99 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) during April 2014 to Dec 2017 period.
  • The GST Council headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley approved the rollout of inter-state e-Way bill, which will deferred the liability to pay tax on reverse charge mechanism until June 30 and extended tax exemption benefits to exporters for another six months.
  • The passport details will be made mandatory for availing loans more than Rs. 50 crore from state run banks as it looks to tighten procedures following the detection of Rs. 12, 636 crore scam at Punjab National Bank (PNB).

STATE NEWS
  • President Ram Nath Kovind released Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 10 commemorative coins on the occasion of Nabakalebar festival in Puri, Odisha.
  • The Ministry of AYUSH will organise the 2018 International Yoga Fest at the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga in New Delhi which is a curtain raiser for the 2018 International Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21.
  • The first-ever India-Japan Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction, organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Govt of Japan, inaugurated by the Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, Dr. Rajiv Kumar in New Delhi.
  • The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) given environmental clearance to India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) project to be set up in Bodi West hills in Tamil Nadu.
  • The Haryana becomes third state after Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to unanimously passed Criminal Law (Haryana Amendment) Bill, 2018 providing for death penalty for convicts found guilty of raping girls aged 12 years or less.

  • Philippines becomes the second country after Burundi to withdraw from International Criminal Court (ICC) citing reason of international bias and held that ICC was being utilised as a political tool against it.
  • United Nations agencies and NGO partners released a 2018 Joint Response Plan for the Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis, with a $951 million appeal to meet the urgent needs of nearly 900,000 Rohingya refugees.
  • The US Trade Representative (USTR) challenged Indian export subsidy schemes at World Trade Organisation (WTO), saying these programmes harm its manufacturing sector and workers by creating an uneven playing field.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated World Hindi Secretariat building in Port Louis, Mauritius.

  • The first phase of Indo-French joint naval exercise ‘Varuna 2018’ kick-started at the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) in Vasco, Goa on Mar 19.
