1. (b) Uttar Pradesh 



The state government of Uttar Pradesh has said that it would provide employment on compassionate grounds to the dependants of the martyred Jawans of armed forces and Central Para Military forces who had a domicile of origin in Uttar Pradesh.



2. (a) Blood Moon, Super Moon and Blue moon



In a rare celestial occurrence, people around the world would be able to witness a total lunar eclipse and a super blue moon today, January 31, 2018. The celestial event is a rare lunar trifecta where three particular events are colliding including total lunar eclipse (blood moon), blue moon and the super moon phenomena.



3. (b) Maharashtra



The state government of Maharashtra on January 30, 2017 approved a proposal to provide sanitary napkins at a subsidised rate of Rs 5 to women living in rural areas. The decision was taken during the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. It is aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene among young girls and women.

A report by New World Wealth has ranked India in the sixth position in the list of wealthiest countries. It noted that India was the best-performing wealth market globally in 2017, as its total wealth increased from USD 6,584 billion in 2016 to USD 8,230 billion in 2017, registering a 25 per cent growth.

The third version of the Government e-Marketplace, GEM 3.0, envisaged by the Union Government as the National Procurement Portal of India has been launched. The GeM 2.0 was launched as a pilot project in August 2016 and its success led to the conceptualisation of GeM 3.0. The portal strives to keep pace with the ever-evolving technological challenges and stake holder aspirations.

The Indian Parliamentary Group (IPG) decided to confer Outstanding Parliamentary Awards on five members of parliament. For the year 2017, it has been awarded to Bhartruhari Mahatab (BJD’s Lok Sabha MP). For 2016, it has been awarded to Dinesh Trivedi (TMC’s Lok Sabha MP) and for the year 2015, it has been awarded to Ghulam Nabi Azad (Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha). Hukumdev Narayan Yadav (BJPs Lok Sabha MP) has been awarded for the year 2014 and Najma Heptulla (Manipur Governor) has been awarded for the year 2013.

The Syrian National Dialogue Congress began on January 29, 2018 in the Russian city Sochi. The first Syrian peace talks have been sponsored by Russia, Iran, and Turkey. The main aim of the congress is to bring Syria closer to creating a post-war constitution.

VINBAX is the first Military Exercise between Indian and Vietnamese armies. The Armies of both the countries began the six day-long military exercise on January 29, 2018 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
