BANKING & ECONOMY
  • World Bank, in his 2018 Global Economics Prospect (GEP), has projected India’s growth rate to 7.3% in 2018 and 7.5 for the next two years i.e. 2019 and 2020.
  • Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd is planning to create its own cyptocurrency, JioCoin which will be led by
  • Mukesh Ambani’s elder son Akash Ambani.
  • The Punjab National Bank (PNB) and National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) tied up to provide financial assistance for economic empowerment of persons belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) families living below Double Poverty Line (DPL).
  • The Union govt liberalised and simplified the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) regime in a host of sectors, including Single Brand Retail Trading (SBRT), civil aviation (aimed at facilitating Air India’s divestment), construction development, power exchanges, pharmaceuticals and audit firms.
  • SBRT allows 49 per cent FDI under the automatic route, and FDI beyond 49 per cent and up to 100 per cent through the government approval route.
  • The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has released the First Advance estimates of national income for the financial year 2017-18, forecasting the India’s GDP growth at 6.5% for 2017-18 compared with the growth of 7.1% in 2016-17.

NATIONAL NEWS
  • Govt think-tank, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog announced to rank 115 backward (Aspirational) districts by April 2018 at ‘Transformation of Aspirational Districts’ conference held in New Delhi.
  • India’s factory output, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 17-months high to 8.4% in Nov 2017 from 2% in Oct 2017.
  • The Union Ministry of Railways has launched Smart Freight Operation Optimization & Real Time Information (SFOORTI) application to help in planning the traffic flows and optimizing freight operations.
  • According to wealth index released on the basis of fourth round of National Family and Health Survey (NFHS-4), ‘Delhi’ is richest state and ‘Jain’ wealthiest community in the country.
  • The Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has launched month long Saksham 2018 Mahotsav (Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav) in Vijayawada.
  • The ‘new online vendor registration system’ has been developed by Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO), the research arm of the Railways which is headquartered in Lucknow.
