Rajyavardhan Rathore launches ‘Khelo India’ Anthem

  • The Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore has launched the official anthem and mascot of Khelo India School Games (from 31st Jan this year).
  • The anthem aims to focus on brotherhood, equality, and solidarity in sports.
  • Now, an athlete wins a medal at Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and Olympics, the coach gets the incentive.
  • Earlier, the Union Govt. has approved Rs 1,756 crore for a period of three years, revamping of 'Khelo India'.
Note:
  • Sports Ministry has already decided to select 1000 athletes every year under the Khelo India School Games for a scholarship of Rs 5 lakhs each for eight successive years.

President inaugurates Economic Democracy Conclave

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated the ‘Economic Democracy Conclave’ at Thane, Maharastra.
  • The conclave being organized by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini with an aim to create a platform for young entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals.
  • Later, the President visited the Global Vipassana Pagoda in Mumbai.

Exports rise more than 12% riding on engineering goods and petroleum products

  • ccording Ministry of Commerce and Industry data, the Country's exports grew by 12.36% in December 2017 to 27.03 billion USD, due to the strong performance by sectors like engineering goods and petroleum products.
  • Exports have been on a positive trajectory since August 2016 to December 2017 with a dip of 1.1% in the month of October last year.
  • Exports of engineering goods, petroleum products showed an increase of over 25% in December last year.

PM Modi inaugurates Rajasthan's Oil Refinery at Pachpadra in Barmer

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the work of Rajasthan Oil Refinery at Pachpadra in Barmer district of the state.
  • This will be the first oil refinery in the state.
  • The project is a joint venture between HPCL and Rajasthan government.
  • The project is expected to generate 10 thousand direct and 40 thousand indirect employment.

Israeli PM Netanyahu inaugurates 3rd edition of geo-political conference

  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has inaugurated the three-day geo-political conference - Raisina Dialogue (3rd edition) in New Delhi.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj have also participated in the inaugural session of the event.
  • The theme of the dialogue this year is 'Managing Disruptive Transitions: Ideas, Institutions and Idioms’.
  • The event is being jointly organized by the External Affairs Ministry and Observer Research Foundation (ORF).

Punjab inks MoU with IOC to set up biogas, bio-CNG plants

  • Punjab Govt has signed a MoU with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to set up biogas and bio-CNG plants in the state.
  • The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IOC was signed by Punjab Bureau of Industrial Promotion (PBIP) and Punjab Energy Development Agency(PEDA).
  • Around 42 plants will become operational in 2018.

Veteran journalist NK Trikha passes away

  • Veteran journalist NK Trikha (82-year) passed away at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a prolonged illness.
  • Mr. Trikha had worked at Hindi newspaper Navbharat Times for a long time and was also the editor of its Lucknow edition.
  • He also served as a member of the Press Council of India (PCI) and two-time president of the National Union of Journalists (India).

Veteran actress Charu Rohatgi passes away

  • TV actress Charu Rohatgi (47-year), passed away after a cardiac arrest.
  • Charu was known for her roles in other TV shows namely Uttaran, Pratigya, Trideviyaan, and others.
  • She was a popular face in the entertainment industry and is best known for her roles in Bollywood films like 15 Park Avenue (2005), Second Marriage Dot Com (2012) and 1920 London (2016) etc.

Romanian PM Mihai Tudose resigns after losing party support

  • Romania's Prime Minister Mihai Tudose resigned after losing the backing of his party due to internal power struggles.
  • Mr. Mihai handed in his resignation after senior members of the ruling Social Democrats (PSD) voted to withdraw their support at a leadership meeting.
  • Tudose's resignation will have to be signed off by center-right President Klaus Iohannis.

  • Actor Sudhir Dalvi has been awarded the Janakavi P Sawlaram award at a function in Thane, Maharashtra.
  • The Janakavi P Sawlaram award is instituted by Thane Municipal Corporation in association with the Janakavi P Savlaram Kala Samiti.
  • Jaishree T (Dancer) has been awarded the Ganga Jamuna award.

Nation's Cup tournament: Indian boxers claim 11 gold medals

  • Indian boxers have claimed 11 gold medals and both the team championship trophies in the Nation's Cup tournament for junior and youth women in Sombor, Serbia.
  • The junior team won 13 medals(nine gold, two silvers and two bronze medals)while the youth team clinched four medals(3 gold and one bronze).
