Four-day test to have minimum of 98 overs per day

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) has granted official status to the new format and minimum of 98 overs will be played on each day of the four-day test.
  • An extra 30 minutes to accommodate the additional 8 overs in the 4-day format as a minimum of 90 overs are required to be bowled per day during a five-day test match.
  • The first-innings lead of 150 will be enough to enforce the follow-on.
  • This is 50 runs less than the runs needed in the five-day format.

Jitesh Singh Deo named Mr. India 2017

  • Jitesh Singh Deo (22-year) bagged the title of ‘Peter England Mr. India 2017’ (ninth edition) at a ceremony held at Bandra Fort in Mumbai.
  • Indian footballer Prathamesh Maulingkar has won the title of Peter England Mr. India Supranational 2017, followed by Abhi Khajuria (1st Runner-Up) and Pavan Rao (2nd Runner-Up).
  • Sixteen contestants from all over the country are shortlisted to compete in the finals.
  • Previous year's winner (Mr. India 2016) was Vishnu Raj Menon.
  • Jitesh competed with 15 other contestants to grab the coveted title.

Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic named USA Player of Year

  • Midfielder Christian Pulisic (19-year) has been named as the U.S. male Player of the Year.
  • Pulisic achieved 94% of the votes collected from the men’s national team players & coaches, domestic league head coaches, former players, administrators and the media.
  • Christian Pulisic recorded six goals and four assists in nine matches and was involved in 13 of the 17 goals scored during matches in which he played this year.

Norway becomes 1st Nation to shut national broadcasts on FM

  • Norway has become the world's first country to shut down national broadcasts of its FM network by completing its transition to digital radio.
  • The transition will allow for better sound quality, a greater number of channels and more functions, at a cost eight times lower than FM radio.
  • The transition concerns only national radio channels.

3rd World Telugu Conference begins today in Hyderabad

  • the Vice- President ‘M Venkaiah Naidu’ has inaugurated the third World Telugu Conference in Hyderabad.
  • The 5-day conference will promote Telugu and its literature besides helping the present generation learn more about the Telugu language.
  • Around eight thousand Telugu speaking delegates from 40 countries all over the globe will be taking part.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind will participate in the valedictory function on 19th Dec 2017.

Supreme Court extends deadline for Aadhaar linkage up to 31st March next year

  • Today, in an interim order, the Supreme Court has extended the deadline till 31st March next 2018 for mandatory linking of Aadhaar with various services and welfare schemes.
  • A five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra also modified its earlier order with regard to linking of Aadhaar with mobile services.
  • Earlier, the union government has issued a notification to extend till 31st March the deadline for mandatory quoting of Aadhaar and Permanent Account Number (PAN) for bank accounts and certain financial transactions.

14th Inclusive finance India summit begins in New Delhi

  • The 14th Inclusive Finance India Summit has begun in New Delhi to build consensus on strategies and a unified vision for achieving universal financial inclusion in India.
  • The summit offers a platform for a plethora of information to all the thought leaders and industry veterans to debate the issues and challenges involving the Financial Inclusion in the country.

NGT imposes complete ban on plastic items on banks of Ganga river

  • The National Green Tribunal (NGT) headed by chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar imposed a complete ban on use, sale, purchase, and storage of plastic items along the river Ganga in Har Ki Pauri (Haridwar) and Rishikesh till upper areas of Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand).
  • NGT also imposed 5,000 rupees fine on those violating the order.
  • The move was taken to tackle and prevent pollution of the Ganga.

Maharashtra Govt to adopt Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act

  • The Maharashtra Govt has started efforts to adopt Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act with an aim to ensure the minimum standards of facilities and services provided by them.
  • Since 2010, the draft Clinical Establishment Bill has been pending in the state to opposition from medical fraternity.
  • This bill will pave the way to control unethical practices adopted by some of the private hospitals. The proposal is pending with the Planning Department.
  • The government has initiated discussion with Indian Medical Associations and other private practitioners to clear the bill.

Govt. raises customs duty on electronic items

  • The union finance ministry has raised customs duty on some electronic items including television, mobile phone, projector and water heater in order to boost domestic manufacturing.
  • Now, customs duty on television set has been increased to 15% from the existing 10% and the duty on monitors and projectors has been doubled to 20%.
  • For the push button telephone or mobile, the duty has been raised to 15% from 0, while water heater and hairdressing instrument duty has been doubled to 20%.

Sachin Siwach named ABC’s best youth boxer

  • The World youth champion Sachin Siwach has been named the Asian Boxing Confederation’s best youth boxer of the year 2017.
  • Sachin won after an online poll conducted by the continental body in his category and polled 36.2 % votes.
  • Earlier, he claimed the Asian youth championships silver this year besides a gold at the Youth Commonwealth Games.
  • India also fetched the best Asian International Technical Official (ITO) award with Lenny D’Gama winning the online poll (45.5%).
