World's Highest-Paid Actors 2017: Forbes List

  • The former rapper-turned-actor Mark Wahlberg is Hollywood's highest-paid leading man, earning $68 million pretax in 12 month scoring period. From India, Shahrukh Khan is the highest paid actor (Rank 8) followed by Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Wahlberg has replaced out last year's top-ranked star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Devendra & Sardar Singh to get Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award

  • Devendra (Para Athlete) and Sardar Singh (Hockey player) have been selected for this year's Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
  • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is given for the spectacular performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four years.
  • Cheteshwar Pujara (Cricketer), Harmanpreet Kaur (Women Cricketer) and P. N. Prakash (shooter) are among the 17 sportsmen who will be given Arjuna Awards for their outstanding performance.
  • They include late Dr R. Gandhi (Athletics), Brij Bhushan Mohanty(Boxing) and P.A. Raphel (Hockey).
  • Dhyan Chand Award will be given to Bhupender Singh (Athletics), Syed Shahid Hakim (Football) and Sumarai Tete (Hockey) for their life time contribution to sports development.
  • The awardees will receive their awards from President ‘Ram Nath Kovind’ in a special function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 29th of August.
  • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardee will receive a cash prize of 7.5 lakh rupees, a medal and a citation.
  • Dronacharya, Arjuna and Dhyan Chand Awardees will receive a cash prize of five lakh rupees, statuettes, certificates.

Former Manipur CM Raishang Keishing passes away

  • Former chief minister of Manipur Raishang Keishing (98-years) passed away due to multiple-organ failure in Imphal.
  • Keishing served as Chief Minister of Manipur from (1980 to 1988) and (1994 to 1997).
  • The Manipur government has declared three-day mourning in the state.
  • Raishang joined Congress under Jawaharlal Nehru and his political career spanned over 70 years.

Railway Board Chairman A K Mittal resigns over Muzzafarnagar train accident

  • Railway Board Chairman ‘A K Mittal’ has resigned owning moral responsibility for Muzzafarnagar train accident (Utkal Express) which had claimed over 20 lives on the 19th of this month.
  • The train was coming from Puri (Odisha) and going to Haridwar(Uttarakhand) when it jumped rails near Khatauli town.
  • Earlier, the Rail Ministry had suspended four officers and transferred one and sent on leave its three top officials because of prima facie evidence in connection with the derailment of Utkal Express.

Nepal PM Deuba to arrive in New Delhi today

  • Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has arrived on five days visit to India.
  • He will call on President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • It will provide an opportunity to both the sides for holding wide-ranging discussions on the issues of mutual interest.
  • The visit is also expected to add a new chapter in age old special ties between the two countries.

NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant to launch Mentor India Campaign in New Delhi

  • The National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has launched the Mentor India Campaign in New Delhi.
  • The campaign is a strategic nation building initiative to engage leaders who can nurture and guide students at more than 900 Atal Tinkering Labs.
  • The labs are dedicated workspaces where students from Class 6th to 12th learn innovation skills and develop ideas that will go on to transform India.
  • Atal Tinkering Labs have been established across the country as a part of the Atal Innovation Mission.

UIDAI launches door step Aadhar enrollment in Delhi

  • The mobile van has been flagged off by the Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to enrol people who are unable to travel to Aadhaar centres for enrolment
  • UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has joined hands with CSC India for launching door step enrolment facility in the national capital who cannot travel the Aadhar centres like elderly, patients and small children.
  • CSC India provides permit and monitors operations of common service centres across India which are meant to provide government services in rural area.

Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat Programme Launched

  • The HRD minister Prakash Javadekar has launched the ‘Swasth Bachche, Swasth Bharat’ Programme in Kochi, Kerala.
  • He also launched the Health and Fitness Profile Card along with the programme.
  • The programme is an initiative of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to prepare a physical Health and Fitness Profile Card for more than 12 lakhs of Kendriya Vidyalaya students.

National Sports Museum to be established in New Delhi

  • The National Sports Museum will be established in New Delhi to popularise the sports as a way of life within the country.
  • The Museum will showcase India’s achievements in sports and also focus on the traditional sports within the country.
  • The proposed Museum would go beyond the classical approach of a collection of memorabilia to become an interactive venue of interest for all age groups.
  • It will display achievements of the Indian greats in sports and also act as an educational hub and offer opportunity for the young to delve into some sporting activity.
  • The Museum will have an audiovisual display of rules and legacy events pertaining to various sports as part of education for the budding sports persons and a well-equipped library of sports and physical fitness.

Navy inducts landing craft utility ship

  • The Indian Navy has inducted a landing craft utility ship ‘LCU L52’ Mk-IV class.
  • The ship was commissioned by Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Jagdish Mukhi at an event in Port Blair.
  • The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.
  • The primary role of LCU MK-IV ship is to transport and deploy main battle tanks, armoured vehicles, troops, and equipment from ship to shore.
  • It will be deployed for a variety of activities including transporting battle tanks and other heavy weapons systems.

Subroto Cup International Football Tournament begins in Delhi

  • One-month long football carnival Subroto Cup International Football Tournament (58th edition) has begun in Delhi
  • A total of 99 teams from India and abroad (Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Afghanistan, and Singapore) are participating across three categories in this edition of famous inter-school football tournament.
  • Football carnival will be played in three categories Sub-Junior boys (Under-14), Junior Girls (Under-17), Junior Boys (Under-17).
  • Some of the key highlights of this edition will be special awards in different categories, an increase in cash awards, special initiatives like Delhi Darshan for participants.
