Noted Writer Tarak Mehta Passes Away


  • Renowned Indian humorist and playwright 'Taarak Mehta' passes away at the age of 87 years after prolonged illness.
  • The popular series 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' is TV adaptation of Padma Shri Taarak Mehta's column 'Duniya Ne Undha Chasma.
  • Note:
  • “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" is an Indian sitcom produced by Neela Tele Films Private Limited.
  • The show went on-air on July 28, 2008.
  • The show is based on the column Duniya Ne Oondha Chashma written by columnist and journalist Taarak Mehta for Gujarati weekly magazine Chitralekha.

Nand Kumar Sai takes charge as Chairperson of NCST


  • Today, the senior tribal leader from Chhattisgarh and ex-parliamentarian Sri Nand Kumar Sai (71-year) has taken charge as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Chairperson (NCST) in New Delhi.
  • Sai succeeds Rameshwar Oraon, whose tenure had ended on 31st October 2016.
  • NCST investigates and monitors all matters related to safeguards provided for Scheduled Tribes under the constitution or under law or under any order of the Government.
  • The Chairperson has been given the rank of Union Cabinet Minister to the Government of India.
  • He Born on 1st January,1946 at village Bhagora of Jaspur District in Chhattisgarh.
  • Sai studied at NES college Jashpur and obtained Post Graduate degree in Political Science from Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur.

  • The first National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) was constituted in March, 2004.
  • National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is an Indian constitutional body was established through Constitution (89th Amendment) Act, 2003.


Sumit Mullick appointed as Chief Secretary of Maharashtra


  • Senior IAS officer (1982-batch) Sumit Mullick has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra.
  • He will succeed Swadheen Kshatriya, who was due for retirement on 31st of January but was given a month's extension.
  • Currently, Mullick is serving as the chief protocol officer and also handles a unit of general administration department.
  • Earlier, he served as the Divisional Commissioner of Amravati and worked as Secretary of School Education.


Shri Rupala launches NDDB’s Cattle Feed Knowledge Portal


  • The Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Parshottam Rupala has launched NDDB’s cattle feed knowledge portal in Anand, Gujarat.
  • The portal will have information on least cost formula for feeds, suppliers of feed ingredients, raw material specifications as well as a discussion forum to share information.
  • Shri Dilip Patel also released a booklet titled ‘Understanding Your Bovine’.

Assam govt to appoint teacher in all high-schools to monitor cleanliness


  • The Assam government has decided to appoint a teacher in all high-schools to monitor cleanliness.
  • The teachers will be appointed in high-schools under Swachh Bharat Mission and responsible to maintain cleanliness.
  • The Sanskrit has been made mandatory to class eight standard in Assam.


Congress leader & RS MP Haji Abdul Salam passes away


  • Senior Congress leader and Member of Rajya Sabha Haji Abdul Salam (69-year) passed away after a brief illness at Imphal.
  • He was the first Manipuri Muslim to be a member of Rajya Sabha from Manipur.
  • Salam represented the Upper House since 2014 and also served as Minister.


CBDT signs 10 more unilateral APAs with taxpayers


  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has signed 10 more unilateral advance pricing agreements (APAs) with Indian taxpayers to reduce litigation by providing certainty in transfer pricing.
  • The 10 APAs signed in the past one week pertain to sectors like telecom, pharma, banking and finance, steel, retail and information technology.
  • Now, the total number of APAs entered into by the CBDT has reached 140 (10 Bilateral APAs and 130 Unilateral APAs).
  • The international transactions covered in these agreements include payment of royalty fee, trading in goods, IT-enabled services, software development services, marketing support services and others.
Note:
  • The APA Scheme was introduced in the Income-tax Act in 2012.
  • The scheme aims at providing certainty to taxpayers in the domain of transfer pricing by specifying the methods of pricing and setting the prices of international transactions in advance.
  • The progress of the APA Scheme strengthens the government's resolve of fostering a non-adversarial tax regime.


Bajaj Auto Donates Rs. One Crore to Armed Forces Flag Day Fund


  • The Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Bajaj Auto Ltd. Shri CP Tripathi has presented a cheque of Rs. One crore to the union Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar as a donation to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF).
  • The Financial assistance is provided to needy Ex-servicemen, widows and their dependents out of AFFDF for healthcare, disability, children education, penury, house repair, ESM funeral, daughter’s marriage etc.


Paytm arm unveils online shopping portal ‘Paytm Mall’


  • The online marketplace arm of One97 Communications Pvt. Ltd 'Paytm E-Commerce' has launched a mobile app and online shopping portal “Paytm Mall”
  • Paytm Mall will allow customers to shop from 68 million products across categories such as fashion, electronics, consumer durables and home furnishings, from about 140,000 sellers.
  • It will manage its deliveries through 17 fulfillment centers of third-party warehouse providers and those owned by sellers and will leverage the network of its 40 courier partners.


Interceptor missile test fired from Odisha Coast


  • Today, India successfully test-fired the supersonic interceptor missile from the Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast after receiving commands from the radars on the incoming missile.
  • The interceptor missile “Prithvi” detected and tracked the enemy's ballistic missile, which was fired from Interim Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.
  • The interceptor is a 7.5-meter long single stage solid rocket propelled guided missile equipped with a navigation system, a hi-tech computer and an electro-mechanical activator.
  • Now, India has become the fourth country (after US, Russia and Israel) in the world to have a ballistic missile defence programme.


ISSF World Cup: India's Jitu Rai wins gold in 50m free pistol


  • Indian shooter Jitu Rai has clinched a gold medal and Amanpreet Singh won a silver medal in 50-metre air pistol event of ISSF World Cup in New Delhi.
  • Jitu Rai created a new world record with 230.1 points.
  • Earlier, Jitu Rai had won a Bronze medal in 10m air pistol event of ISSF World Cup.
  • India has now three medals in the tournament.


Virat Kohli named captain of the year at ESPNcricinfo Awards


  • Indian captain ‘Virat Kohli’ has been named as the 'Captain of the Year' at the 10th annual ESPNcricinfo Awards.
  • Ben Stokes (England) won the ‘Test Batting Performance of the Year’ and Stuart Broad (England) got the Test Bowling Performance of the Year award - for the second year running.
  • Kohli led India to nine wins out of 12 Tests in the year 2016.
  • Quinton de Kock bagged the ODI Batting Performance of the year for his 178 against the mighty Aussies.
  • Carlos Brathwaite (Caribbean captain) bagged the T20 Performance of the year for his 10 balls 34 not out against England in the final of the ICC World Twenty20 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
  • Teenage spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraj (Bangladesh) has won the Debutant of the Year Award for his 19 wickets in the 2 match Test series against England.
