'Mil Banche’ program held in all govt. schools in Madhya Pradesh

  • Today, 'Mil Banche’ program was held in all the primary and middle government schools in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Under the program, public representatives, other dignitaries have gone to schools to motivate children and read out a portion of Hindi book of their choice.
  • Madhya Pradesh Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Bhopal’s Sanjay Gandhi School, where he had studied during his childhood and take class.
  • He has also motivated children to read other interesting books along with textbooks.
Note: More than 1 lakh 50 thousand people have got registered for 'Mil Banche' Madhya Pradesh program.

EPFO extends deadline for submitting Aadhaar till March 31

  • The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline for submitting Aadhaar number by its members till 31st March 2017.
  • Now, all the members of Employees' Pension Scheme 1995 should submit their Aadhaar number authentication on or before 31st of March.
  • Earlier, the time period of submission of Aadhaar was 28th February.
Note: It has been made mandatory for subscribers to submit the Aadhaar number for continuing the benefits under its scheme.

Assam Govt. inaugurates Cancer Hospital


  • The Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Health Minister JP Nadda have inaugurated the Cancer Hospital attached to the Gauhati Medical College in Guwahati(Assam).
  • The Cancer Hospital will be accorded the status of a State Cancer Institute.
  • The union govt. will provide Rs. 120 crore rupees to the hospital which will be in addition to Rs. 90 crore already earmarked for the institute.
  • Now, the free dialysis facility will be provided in all district hospitals of the state to below poverty line families.


J&K DGP launches website to provide updates to people about policing


  • Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir SP Vaid has launched a website (suvidhajkpolice.in) and a mobile application to provide updates to the people about various policing related activities, advisories, and National Highway status.
  • The application contained features like easy access of information to common citizens and notifications on mobiles for the users.
  • website and mobile application will prove helpful for public to get insight on various activities and important information regarding missing children.


Aadhaar card now mandatory for college and varsity students to avail scholarship


  • According to the Union Human Resource Development Ministry notification, to avail benefit under the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University students, applicants will now have to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar card or undergo Aadhaar authentication.
  • But, it is not applicable in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Those who are receiving these scholarships but don't have an Aadhar card will have to apply for enrolment by 30th June 2017.
  • According to officials, the move brings in transparency and enables the beneficiary get entitlements directly to them in a convenient and seamless manner.


NRAI gets highest WHO ratings for vaccine regulations


  • The National Regulatory Authority of India (NRAI) has been given the maximum ratings by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for vaccine regulations.
  • Earlier, the WHO completed the assessment of the status of the Indian vaccine regulatory system against WHO NRA Global Benchmarking Tool and measured the maturity of the system in India.
  • India is one of the main players in the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.
Note: India, as a large vaccine producing country, is currently supplying several vaccines to the UN agencies like UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Fund), WHO (World Health Organisation) and PAHO (Pan American Health Organization).


GST governing council meets in Udaipur today to give approval to GST Draft Law


  • Today, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) governing council is at Udaipur, Rajasthan to give approval to GST Draft Law.
  • The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley chaired is being attended by the Finance Ministers of various states.
  • The main agenda for the meeting will be to give approval for GST, IGST, CGST and IGST Draft law.


RBI Doubles Gold loan limit for regional rural banks to Rs. 2 lakhs


  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased the gold loan limit for RRBs (Regional Rural Banks) to Rs. 2 lakh from the current Rs. 1 lakh to help the farmers and artisans.
  • Crop loans sanctioned against the collateral security of gold or gold ornaments shall continue to be governed by the extant income recognition, asset classification and provisioning norms for such loans.
  • Under the scheme, while interest will be charged on monthly basis on the total outstanding.
  • It will become due for payment along with principal only at the end of 12 months from the date of sanction.

Note: RBI has directed that the gold loans should not exceed 75% of the value of the gold pledged for taking the loan.

Sunil Mehta appointed non-executive Chairman of PNB


  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) for the appointment of Sunil Mehta as non-executive Chairman of Punjab National Bank (PNB).
  • He has been appointed for a period of three years.


Former MP Jambuvantrao Dhote passes away


  • Former MP Jambuvantrao Dhote (83-year) passed away due to heart attack in Yavatmal, Maharashtra.
  • Mr. Dhote won his first election to Lok Sabha in 1971 from Nagpur as a Forward Bloc nominee.
  • He was known for his demands of a separate state for ‘Vidarbha’ and founded Vidarbha Janta Congress party in 2002.
  • He was elected to Maharashtra Assembly five times.


ISRO successfully tests its indigenously developed Cryogenic Upper Stage engine for GSLV Mark III rocket


  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully ground tested its indigenously developed Cryogenic Upper Stage engine for GSLV Mark III at its Liquid Propulsion Complex at Mahendragiri in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
  • The test was last in the series before going for an actual rocket launch and the engine will be put into use in April.
  • The C25 stage is the most powerful upper stage developed by ISRO and uses Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen propellant combination.


Shri Radha Mohan Singh inaugurates Indian Seed Congress- 2017 in Kolkata


  • The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh has inaugurated the Indian Seed Congress-2017 in Kolkata (West Bengal).
  • The theme of Seed Congress is “Seed of Joy”.
  • The theme is in line with vision to bring happiness and prosperity in the lives of farmers by doubling their farm income by 2022.


Sumitra Mahajan to inaugurate 2-day South Asian Speaker’s summit in Madhya Pradesh


  • Today, the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has inaugurated the two-day South Asian Speaker’s summit at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
  • The Summit is organized by the Indian Parliament and Inter-Parliamentary Union which is focused on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in member countries.
  • The Presiding officers and delegates from legislatures of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are attending the summit.


Momentum Jharkhand: 209 MoU sign between different companies


  • Today, 209 MoU were signed between different companies in Global Investors Submit - branded as "Momentum Jharkhand " Global Investors Submit at the Khelgaon, Ranchi.
  • Due to these MoUs, the  investment worth three lakhs, 39 thousand and 87 crores rupees will come in the state and around 2 lacks 9 thousand direct jobs will be created.
  • Lafarge India, which was handed over 66 acres of land for setting up a cements plant with 300 crore rupees.
  • Hindustan Petroleum was handed over 58.86 acres of land for setting up LPG bottling plant with an investment of 85 crore rupees promising jobs to 85 people.
