TRICK 1: 

If only one person covers the distance
In same direction = Add

• E+E+E+E+E+.... 
• W+W+W+W+..... 
• N+N+N+N+.... 
• S+S+S+S+...... 

TRICK 2: 

In opposite direction subtract 

• E-W 
• W-E 
• N-S 
• S-N 

Question 1:

A woman moves towards North and covers a distance of 50m then turns east and covers a distance of 80m then turns south and covers a distance of 50m and turns west and covers a distance of 30m. How far is he from starting position?

TRICK:

N50 E80 S50 W30
=80-30=50m (Answer)

Question 2:

Raju moves towards East and covers a distance of 20m then turns south and covers a distance of 50m and then turns East and covers a distance of 40m and then turns North and covers a distance of 50m. How far is he from starting position?

TRICK:

=E20 S50 E40 N50
=E60=60m East (Answer)

If question is asked as how far is he from final position?

TRICK: 

(Take the opposite direction of starting position)
=60W=60m West (Answer)
Note 1: Starting position=Initial position=original position
Note 2: Final position=End position=Reached position

Question 3:

Ramu starts towards South and covers a distance of 20km turns East of 50km turns South of 30km then turns West of 50km and turns South of 40km. How far and in which direction is she from the reached position?
