Manoj Bajpayee wins the best actor at Asia Pacific Screen Awards


  • Indian Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee has won the best performance award by an actor at the 10th Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
  • He has won the Best Performance award for his role as Professor Siras in 'Aligarh'.
  • Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui received a Special Mention in the Best Performance category for his role in "Raman Raghav 2.0".

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2016 observed across the world

  • The 2016 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has observed across the world to raise awareness about violence against women and discuss solutions that would work for women community.
  • The theme for the day is “Orange the World - raise funds to end violence against women”.

FDI goes up 60% after launch of “Make in India” campaign

  • Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country has gone up by 60% after the launch of Make in India campaign to 77.86 billion Dollar.
  • According to Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, there has been an unprecedented increase in FDI during the period October 2014 to September 2016.
  • “Make in India” campaign has been launched with an aim to promote India as an important investment destination and a global hub for manufacturing.

Govt slaps safeguard duty on certain steel imports

  • The union Government has slapped safeguard duty on import of certain steel products like hot rolled flat sheets and plates of alloy or non-alloy steel to protect domestic manufacturers from cheap in-bound shipments.
  • According to Revenue Department notification, the effective duty rate would be calculated after deducting the value of the goods and the anti-dumping duty payable when the import price is below 504 US dollars per tonne.
  • The duty arrived at would be 10% in the first year and will gradually reduce to 6% by 2019.

FASSAI sets new rules to check health supplement mis-labelling

  • The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FASSAI) CEO Pawan Aggarwal has announced new standards for manufacturers of products to check mis-labelling.
  • Every package of health supplement should carry the word 'health supplement' as well as an advisory warning 'not for medicinal use' prominently written.
  • The new standards for eight categories of products, including health supplements and nutraceuticals.
  • FSSAI will start granting licences and approve products manufactured based on the new standards (from Jan 2018).

Nalanda University Chancellor resigns from post

Today, Nalanda University Chancellor George Yeo has  resigned from his post
His resignation comes on the day of the Foundation Day of the University.
The Nalanda university is being built near the ruins of its ancient avatar and Dr. Amartya Sen was involved in the project since 2007.

Noted journalist Dileep Padgaonkar passes away

  • Noted journalist Dileep Padgaonkar (72-year) passed away in Pune after brief illness.
  • He was a member of the three-member inter locutors group for Jammu & Kashmir and former editor of The Times of India.

PV Sindhu enters semifinals of Hong Kong Open

  • Indian shuttler PV Sindhu has entered into the semifinals of Hong Kong Open Super Series badminton tournament after beating Singapore player Xiaoyu Liang 21-17,21-23,21-18. 
  • Today,in other matches Saina Nehwal will play Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi.

  • The Hong Kong Open is an annual badminton tournament held in Hong Kong since 1982.
  • It is organised by Hong Kong Badminton Association and it became one of the Super Series tournament in 2007.
