World Internet Conference 2016 to start in Wuzhen

  • Today,the three-day event of 2016 World Internet Conference (3rd) will kick off in Wuzhen China.
  • More than 120 countries, including 8 top foreign leaders will attend the conference.
  • Delegates will be discussing the creation of an online community of shared destiny which features innovation.

Note:
  • The World Internet Conference (Wuzhen Summit) is an annual event, first held in 2014.
  • It organised by government agencies in China to discuss Internet issues and policy.

2. BBC World Service to launch 11 new language services

  • The BBC World Service will launch 11 new language services as part of its biggest expansion since the 1940s.
  • It is the biggest expansion of the World Service since the 1940s.
  • The new languages will be Afaan Oromo, Amharic, Gujarati, Igbo, Korean, Marathi, Pidgin, Punjabi, Telugu, Tigrinya, and Yoruba.
  • The first new services are expected to launch in 2017.


3. 20 nations sign framework agreement of International Solar Alliance

  • Over 20 countries has signed the framework agreement of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
  • The framework agreement of ISA was opened for signatures on the sidelines of CoP22 to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change at Marrakech, in Morocco.
  • The legal framework in place ISA will be a major International body headquartered in India.
  • The Framework Agreement will be kept open as many more countries are expected to join the ISA in the coming weeks.

Note:International Solar Alliance is an alliance of 121 solar resource-rich tropical countries lying fully or partially between two tropics (also UN members).

4. International Day of Tolerance being observed today

  • The International Day for Tolerance is being observed today in the world.
  • It is annually observed on 16th November to educate people about the need for tolerance in society and to help them understand the negative effects of intolerance.


5. Maharashtra becomes first state to adopt Fly Ash Utilization Policy

  • Maharashtra has become the first state to adopt the Fly Ash Utilization Policy.
  • The state cabinet has approved a policy for 100% use of fly ash generated from thermal power plants and biogas plants for construction activities.
  • This policy will create new employment opportunities in the power plant sector and pave way for prosperity by generating Wealth from Waste.
  • Fly ash will be used to make bricks, blocks, tiles, wall panels, cement and other construction materials.


6. Govt decides to declare preacher Zakir Naik’s NGO unlawful

  • The Union Government has decided to declare Islamic Research Foundation floated by preacher Zakir Naik as an unlawful organisation under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
  • The Cabinet has banned the NGO for five years and asked security agencies to keep a strict watch on its activities.
  • Earlier, Naik came in the centre of controversy following reports that militants involved in Dhaka terror attack were inspired by his provocative speeches.


7. Government launched toll-free helpline for information on Aadhaar

  • Today, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique Identification Authority of India Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey has launched revamped Aadhaar toll-free helpline number – 1947 to help citizens to get quick access to information about Aadhaar.
  • The helpline number will be available 24×7 throughout the year on Interactive voice response system mode (IVRS).
  • The Call-Centre agents will be available from 7 A.M. to 11 P.M
  • The number has been revamped to handle more incoming calls and to brings Aadhaar closer to everyone.


8. India & China joint training exercise hand in hand 2016 begins in Pune

  • The sixth edition of India-China Joint Training Exercise ‘Hand in Hand 2016, has  been started in Pune, (Maharashtra).
  • The aim of the bilateral military exercise is to share the expertise in drills and practices while tackling insurgency and terrorism between Indian Army and People’s Liberation Army of China.
  • The 2016 Hand in Hand Exercise has been planned at the company level with respective battalion headquarters controlling the training


9. Govt. hikes MSP of wheat by Rs. 100 & pulses by up to Rs. 550 quintal

  • The Union Government has hiked the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat by Rs. 100 per quintal and pulses by up to Rs. 550  a quintal to boost the output of these rabi crops and check prices.
  • Earlier, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved for the 2016-17 rabi crop .
  • MSP on Gram has been hiked to Rs. 4,000 per quintal including bonus, from 3,500 rupees per quintal while MSP of Masur has been raised to Rs. 3,950 per quintal from Rs. 3,400.
  • The support price on Mustard and safflower have been hiked to Rs. 3,700  per quintal each.
  • The support price of  Barley has been increased to Rs. 1,325  from Rs. 1,225  per quintal
