ससर्दार बर्डीमुखामेदोव ने तुर्कमेनिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति के रूप में शपथ ली

• तुर्कमेनिस्तान के राष्ट्रपति के रूप में ससर्दार बर्डीमुखामेदोव ने शपथ ली है। बर्डीमुखामेदोव अपने पिता और पूर्व राष्ट्रपति गुरबांगुली बर्डीमुखामेदोव की जगह लेंगे, जो 2006 में राष्ट्रपति बने और 2022 तक सेवा की। यह ध्यान दिया जाना चाहिए कि तुर्कमेनिस्तान में राष्ट्रपति चुनाव हर सात वर्ष में होते हैं। गैस समृद्ध देश का नेतृत्व करने के लिए सर्दार बर्डीमुखामेदोव ने 72.97 प्रतिशत वोट हासिल किए।

• 2022 बीएनपी परिबास ओपन टेनिस टूर्नामेंट, जिसे 2022 इंडियन वेल्स मास्टर्स के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, का आयोजन 07 से 20 मार्च, 2022 तक इंडियन वेल्स, कैलिफ़ोर्निया, यूएस में किया गया था। बीएनपी परिबास ओपन चार ग्रैंड स्लैम के बाहर दो सप्ताह का सबसे बड़ा संयुक्त आयोजन है और विश्‍व में सबसे अधिक भाग लेने वाले डब्ल्यूटीए 1000 और एटीपी वर्ल्ड टूर मास्टर्स 1000 टेनिस टूर्नामेंट है।

एन बीरेन सिंह ने दूसरी बार मणिपुर के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली

• भाजपा के वरिष्ठ नेता एन बीरेन सिंह ने 21 मार्च, 2022 को लगातार दूसरे पांच वर्ष के कार्यकाल के लिए मणिपुर के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली। सत्तारूढ़ भाजपा पार्टी ने 2022 में मणिपुर विधानसभा चुनाव में सभी 60 सीटों पर चुनाव लड़ा और 32 सीटों पर जीत हासिल की। नोंगथोम्बम (एन) बीरेन सिंह ने एक फुटबॉलर के रूप में अपना करियर शुरू किया, फिर राजनीति में आने से पहले पत्रकारिता की ओर रुख किया।
• हाल ही में हुए विधानसभा चुनावों में, भाजपा ने 60 सदस्यीय सदन में 32 सीटें जीतकर पूर्ण बहुमत हासिल किया। इसके अलावा, जनता दल (यूनाइटेड), एनपीएफ, नवगठित कुकी पीपुल्स एलायंस (केपीए) और दो निर्दलीय विधायकों ने भगवा पार्टी को बिना शर्त समर्थन दिया है। जद (यू) ने छह सीटों पर जीत हासिल की, एनपीएफ ने पांच और केपीए ने दो सीटें जीतीं।

भारतीय अर्थशास्त्री जयती घोष को संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने बहुपक्षवाद पर उच्च स्तरीय सलाहकार बोर्ड में नामित किया

• संयुक्त राष्ट्र (यूएन) के महासचिव, एंटोनियो गुटेरेस ने भारतीय विकास अर्थशास्त्री जयती घोष को प्रभावी बहुपक्षवाद पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र के नव स्थापित सलाहकार बोर्ड के सदस्य के रूप में नियुक्त करने की घोषणा की है। प्रभावी बहुपक्षवाद पर 12 सदस्यीय उच्च स्तरीय सलाहकार बोर्ड की सह-अध्यक्षता लाइबेरिया के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति और नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता एलेन जॉनसन सरलीफ और पूर्व स्वीडिश प्रधान मंत्री स्टीफन लोफवेन करेंगे।
• नया सलाहकार बोर्ड महिलाओं और लड़कियों की केंद्रीयता और युवा लोगों और भावी पीढ़ियों के हितों को ध्यान में रखते हुए प्रमुख वैश्विक मुद्दों की एक श्रृंखला में अधिक प्रभावी बहुपक्षीय व्यवस्था के लिए ठोस सुझाव देने की आवश्यकता सहित हमारे सामान्य एजेंडा में विचारों पर निर्माण करने के लिए कहा जाएगा।

विश्व कविता दिवस 2022:21 मार्च

• मानव मन की रचनात्मक भावना को पकड़ने के लिए कविता की अद्वितीय क्षमता को पहचानने के लिए प्रतिवर्ष 21 मार्च को विश्व कविता दिवस मनाया जाता है। विश्व कविता दिवस मानवता के सांस्कृतिक और भाषाई अभिव्यक्ति और पहचान के सबसे क़ीमती रूपों में से एक है।
• संयुक्त राष्ट्र शैक्षिक, वैज्ञानिक और सांस्कृतिक संगठन (यूनेस्को) ने 1999 में पेरिस में यूनेस्को के 30 वें सत्र के दौरान काव्य अभिव्यक्ति के माध्यम से भाषाई विविधता का समर्थन करने और लुप्तप्राय भाषाओं को सुनने के अवसर को बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से इस दिन को अपनाया। कुछ देश 15 अक्टूबर को विश्व कविता दिवस भी मनाते हैं, जो एक रोमन कवि वर्जिल के जन्मदिन को चिह्नित करता है, जो अपने महाकाव्य एनीड के लिए प्रसिद्ध है।

 विश्व डाउन सिंड्रोम दिवस 2022: 21 मार्च

• विश्व डाउन सिंड्रोम दिवस (WDSD) प्रतिवर्ष 21 मार्च को मनाया जाता है। यह एक वैश्विक अभियान है जो डाउन सिंड्रोम के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने के लिए प्रतिवर्ष मनाया जाता है। वंशानुगत विकारों के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए इस दिन को एक वैश्विक पहल के रूप में मनाया जाता है। डाउन सिंड्रोम वाले व्यक्ति में एक अतिरिक्त गुणसूत्र होता है।

• विश्व जल दिवस प्रतिवर्ष 22 मार्च को विश्व स्तर पर मनाया जाता है। दिन का उद्देश्य पानी के महत्व को उजागर करना है। इसका उपयोग पानी के संसाधनों के स्थायी प्रबंधन की वकालत करने के लिए किया जाता है। यह 2022, भूजल पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया गया है, एक अदृश्य संसाधन जिसका प्रभाव हर जगह दिखाई दे रहा है। प्रासंगिक मुद्दों में पानी की कमी, जल प्रदूषण, अपर्याप्त जल आपूर्ति, स्वच्छता की कमी और जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रभाव शामिल हैं जिन्हें इस दिन देखा जाता है।

• टोक्यो ओलंपिक स्वर्ण पदक विजेता, नीरज चोपड़ा ने 2022 स्पोर्टस्टार एसेस अवार्ड्स में प्रतिष्ठित 'स्पोर्टस्टार ऑफ द ईयर (पुरुष)' पुरस्कार जीता। टोक्यो ओलंपिक में रजत पदक जीतने वाली भारोत्तोलक मीराबाई चानू को 'स्पोर्टस्टार ऑफ द ईयर (फीमेल)' का पुरस्कार मिला। एसेस अवार्ड्स खेल में उत्कृष्टता की भावना का जश्न मनाते हैं और हमारे एथलीटों और खिलाड़ियों को नए रिकॉर्ड तोड़ने और गौरव के नए शिखर तक पहुंचने के लिए प्रेरित करने की उम्मीद करते हैं।

• पद्म पुरस्कार विजेता डॉ तेहमटन एराच उडवाडिया ने "मोर देन जस्ट सर्जरी: लाइफ लेसन्स बियॉन्ड द ओटी " नामक एक नई पुस्तक लिखी है, जो सर्जरी की पृष्ठभूमि के खिलाफ लोगों, घटनाओं, मेनटॉर, विफलताओं और ऐब्सर्डिटी का एक व्यक्तिगत खाता है। यह पुस्तक डॉ तेहेमटन एराच उडवाडिया की उनके छात्र वर्षों की यात्रा को रेजीडेंसी, अनुसंधान, सर्जिकल अभ्यास और सर्जिकल शिक्षण के माध्यम से उनके द्वारा सीखे गए पाठों को साझा करने के साधन के रूप में दर्शाती है।
• मुंबई के रहने वाले डॉ तेहमटन एराच उडवाडिया एक सामान्य और गैस्ट्रोइंटेस्टाइनल सर्जन हैं। वह 1972 में सर्जरी में लैप्रोस्कोपी की शुरुआत करने वाले भारत के पहले सर्जन थे और 1990 में विकासशील देशों में लेप्रोस्कोपिक सर्जरी करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति थे। उन्हें व्यापक रूप से 'भारत में लैप्रोस्कोपी के जनक' के रूप में जाना जाता है।
• भारत सरकार ने उन्हें 2006 में मेडिसिन के लिए पद्मश्री और 2017 में मेडिसिन के लिए पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया। उन्हें 2006 में महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय से ऑर्डर ऑफ द ब्रिटिश एम्पायर (ओबीई) भी मिला।

 स्पोर्टस्टार और द हिंदू ग्रुप द्वारा जारी पुस्तक 'रोड टू 1000'

• स्पोर्टस्टार और द हिंदू ग्रुप ने ताज महल पैलेस होटल में 2022 स्पोर्टस्टार एसेस अवार्ड्स में एक कॉफी-टेबल बुक, 'रोड टू 1000' का विमोचन किया। यह पुस्तक भारतीय क्रिकेट की यात्रा को यादगार बनाने के लिए 520 पन्नों की एक विशेष संग्रह है जिसमें 1000 चित्र हैं। भारत के पूर्व क्रिकेटरों सुनील गावस्कर, सैयद किरमानी, दिलीप वेंगसरकर, मोहम्मद अजहरुद्दीन, चंद्रकांत पंडित और नीलेश कुलकर्णी ने यहां 'रोड टू 1000' का विमोचन किया।
• 6 फरवरी को, भारत ने अहमदाबाद में वेस्ट इंडीज के खिलाफ अपना 1,000 वां एकदिवसीय मैच खेला, यह उपलब्धि दर्ज करने वाली पहली टीम बन गई। 1983 और 2011 में भारत की विश्व कप जीत, क्रमशः कपिल देव और एम एस धोनी के नेतृत्व में, भारतीय एकदिवसीय इतिहास में प्रमुख आकर्षण हैं। स्पोर्टस्टार के पत्रकारों और फोटोग्राफरों ने 1980 और 1990 के दशक में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम को कवर करने के लिए विश्‍व की यात्रा की। यह भारतीय क्रिकेट को सबसे अच्छी श्रद्धांजलि है।

Serdar Berdimuhamedow sworn in as Turkmen president

• Serdar Berdimuhamedow has been sworn in as the President of Turkmenistan. Berdimuhamedow succeeds his father and former president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who became president in 2006 and served till 2022. It must be noted that the presidential elections in Turkmenistan are held every seven years. Serdar Berdymukhamedov, secured 72.97 per cent of the votes election to lead the gas-rich country.

2022 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament

• The 2022 BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament, also known as the 2022 Indian Wells Masters, was held from March 07 to 20, 2022 at Indian Wells, California, US. The BNP Paribas Open is the largest two-week combined event outside of the four Grand Slams and the most-attended WTA 1000 and ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in the world.

N Biren Singh takes oath as Manipur chief minister for second term

• Senior BJP leader N Biren Singh took the oath as Chief Minister of Manipur for a second consecutive five-year term on March 21, 2022. The ruling BJP party contested all 60 seats in the Manipur Assembly election in 2022 and won 32 seats. Nongthombam (N) Biren Singh started his career as a footballer, then turned to journalism, before joining politics.
• In the recently held Assembly polls, the BJP won an absolute majority by winning 32 seats in the 60-member House. Moreover, the Janata Dal (United), the NPF, the newly formed Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) and two Independent MLAs have extended their unconditional support to the saffron party. The JD(U) won six seats, NPF won five and the KPA won two seats.

Indian economist Jayati Ghosh named by UN to high-level advisory board on multilateralism

• United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres has announced the appointment of Indian development economist Jayati Ghosh as a member of the UN’s newly established Advisory Board on Effective Multilateralism. The 12-member high-level advisory board on effective multilateralism will be co-chaired by former Liberian president and Nobel laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Swedish prime minister Stefan Lofven.
• The new advisory board will be asked to build on the ideas in Our Common Agenda including the centrality of women and girls, and the need to take into account the interests of young people and future generations to make concrete suggestions for more effective multilateral arrangements across a range of key global issues.

World Poetry Day 2022:21st March

• On 21st March, World Poetry Day is celebrated every year to recognise the unique ability of poetry to capture the creative spirit of the human mind. World Poetry Day celebrates one of humanity’s most treasured forms of cultural and linguistic expression and identity.
• The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted this day during UNESCO’s 30th session in Paris in 1999 with the aim of supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard. Some countries also celebrate World Poetry Day on October 15 to mark the birthday of Virgil, a Roman poet who is famous for his epic Aeneid.

World Down Syndrome Day 2022: 21st March

• World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed every year on 21 March. It is a global campaign that is observed annually to spread awareness about Down Syndrome. The Day is commemorated as a global initiative to increase awareness about hereditary disorders. An individual with Down Syndrome has an extra chromosome.
• The theme of World Down Syndrome Day this year is “Inclusion Means”. It calls for making efforts to include people with down syndrome in all matters of life and not discriminate against them.

 World Water Day 2022: 21st March

• World Water Day is celebrated globally on 22nd March every year. The day aims to highlight the importance of freshwater. It is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. This 2022, the focus is groundwater, an invisible resource with an impact visible everywhere. Relevant issues include water scarcity, water pollution, inadequate water supply, lack of sanitation, and the impacts of climate change that are looked upon on this day.
• The World Water Day theme 2022 is “Groundwater, Making the Invisible Visible”. Groundwater is a crucial resource that provides almost half of all drinkable water across the world.

Neeraj Chopra wins Sportsman of the Year (Track and Field) award at Sportstar Aces 2022

• Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra claimed the coveted ‘Sportstar of the Year (Male)’ award at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who claimed the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, received the ‘Sportstar of the Year (Female)’ award. The Aces Award celebrate the spirit of excellence in sport and hope to inspire our athletes and sports persons to continue to strive to break new records and reach new pinnacles of glory.

Book “More than Just Surgery: Life Lessons Beyond the OT” authored by Dr Tehemton Erach Udwadia

• Padma Awardee Dr Tehemton Erach Udwadia has authored a new book titled “More than Just Surgery: Life Lessons Beyond the OT”, a personal account of people, incidents, mentors, failures, and absurdities against the backdrop of surgery. The book maps the journey of Dr Tehemton Erach Udwadia from his student years through residency, research, surgical practice and surgical teaching as a means of sharing the lessons he learned.
• Dr Tehemton Erach Udwadia, who hails from Mumbai, is a general and gastrointestinal surgeon. He was the first surgeon in India to introduce laparoscopy in surgery in 1972 and he was the first to perform laparoscopic surgery in the developing world in 1990. He is widely known as the ‘Father of laparoscopy in India.
• The government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 2006 for Medicine and Padma Bhushan in 2017 for Medicine. He also received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006.

 Book ‘Road to 1000’ released by Sportstar and The Hindu group

• Sportstar and The Hindu group released a coffee-table book, ‘Road to 1000’, at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards at The Taj Mahal Palace hotel. The book is a 520-page, special collection with 1000 pictures to commemorate Indian cricket’s journey. ‘Road to 1000’ was released by former India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar, Syed Kirmani, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Chandrakant Pandit and Nilesh Kulkarni here.
• On February 6, India played its 1,000th ODI against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, becoming the first team to record the feat. India’s World Cup triumphs in 1983 and 2011, under Kapil Dev and M. S. Dhoni respectively, remain the major highlights in Indian ODI history. Sportstar reporters and photographers travelled the world to cover the Indian cricket team in the 1980s and 1990s. This is the best tribute to Indian cricket.
