BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has tweaked priority sector eligibility and classification norms following an announcement in the second bi-monthly policy statement on Jun 6.
  • The Ministry of Corporate Affairs released draft on cross-border insolvency in order to strengthen Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) set up 10-members committee, headed by Suresh Mathur, to review norms related to Insurance Marketing Firms (IMF) with an aim to increase insurance penetration in the country.
  • Yes Bank has received approval from market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for acting as custodian of securities.
    • Custodian of securities is a licence granted by Sebi to eligible entities allowing them to offer custodial services to financial market participants including foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and foreign portfolio investors (FPIs).
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) narrowed the definition of relatives under the ‘maintenance of close relative’ category of Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) to check outflow of funds and prevent misuse of facility.
    • At present, LRS limit for all resident individuals, including minors, is US $2,50,000 (Rs. 1.5 crore) per financial year.
  • As per the latest report of 'Global Economic Outlook', Fitch Ratings has raised India’s growth forecast for 2018-19 to 7.4% from 7.3%, but cited higher financing costs and rising oil prices as risks to growth.
  • Banks Board Bureau (BBB) recommended 22 general managers to be elevated as executive directors at the various public sector banks (PSBs).
    • This is the first major exercise undertaken by reconstituted BBB, headed by newly appointed Chairman BP Sharma, former Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training.
  • The conference on implementation of National Pension System (NPS) by the Central Autonomous Bodies (CABs) held in New Delhi.
    • It was organized by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).
  • Muthoot Fincorp has become the first major private sector player to partner with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to launch the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY.2) programme.
NATIONAL NEWS
  • India host the 3rd annual meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Mumbai with the theme, "Mobilizing Finance for Infrastructure: Innovation and Collaboration".
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of Vanijya Bhawan, a new office complex in New Delhi for the Department of Commerce.
  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) notified that use of Aadhaar biometric data for criminal investigation is not allowed under Aadhaar Act, 2016.
  • The Union Ministry of Power has considered a proposal in making 24 degrees celsius as mandatory default setting and labeling of air conditioners within few months.
  • India notified higher tariffs on 29 items imported from United States (US).
    • This was in retaliation against US announcement imposing tariffs on steel and aluminium items — 25% and 10% respectively — imported from all countries except Canada and Mexico in Mar 2018 to compensate from loss of revenue.
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) banned al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP) under anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.
  • The 19th all India Conference of Directors of Finger Prints Bureaux 2018 has been inaugurated by Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, in Hyderabad.
  • The Guinness World Record (GWR) for largest number of people performing yoga at one place at the same time has been set up in Kota, Rajasthan in the 4th edition of International Yoga Day (IYD-2018).
  • Indian IT industry’s apex body, NASSCOM (National Association of Software & Services Companies) launched 'Women Wizards Rule Tech' programme to increase number of women in senior levels in Information Technology (IT) industry.
  • The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has launched National Digital Library of India (NDLI) on the occasion of National Reading Day (June 17) in New Delhi.
  • According to 11th report of Common Review Mission of National Health Mission (NHM), more than 93% of women bear uneven burden in family planning of sterilisations in the country.
  • The Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) declared medium (5 GW by 2022) and long-term (30 GW by 2030) targets for offshore wind power capacity addition.
  • The Union Govt constituted Chief Ministers Subgroup to coordinate policy approaches for agriculture sector and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
  • The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched National Health Resource Repository (NHRR) Project.
  • Minister of State (I/C) Youth Affairs and Sports Col Rajyavardhan Rathore sanctioned a special financial assistance of Rs.5 lakhs to former International Archer & Arjun Awardee Limba Ram.
  • The Union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) will expand its India BPO Promotion Scheme to 1 lakh seats from current 48,000 seats.

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani launched the Rs 870-crore pilot project of Suryashakti Kisan Yojana (SKY).
    • Under the Yojana, farmers can generate electricity using solar energy and sell the surplus to the electric grid.
  • The annual Ambubachi Mela started at Nilachall hillock where the Kamakhya temple is situated, in Assam.
  • The 22nd edition of Sindhu Darshan Festival (SDF) started on the bank of Indus River in Leh district of Ladakh region, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Mohanpura Irrigation Project in Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh.
  • On the occasion of the 4th International Day of Yoga, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced to set up a 'Yog Aayog' in the state.
