BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) eased investment norms for foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in debt, especially into individual large corporates.
  • The short-term investments in corporate bonds by an FPI shall not exceed 20% of total investment of that FPI in corporate bonds.
  • The FPIs cap on investment in Government securities (G-secs) has been increased to 30% of outstanding stock of that security, from 20% earlier.
  • The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBITC) under Finance Ministry raised import duty by 5-10% on non-palm edible oils, both crude and refined ones, in order to protect interest of domestic oilseeds growers and processors.
  • India’s IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has become the first listed company in India to close day’s trade with market capitalisation (m cap) of over Rs. 7 lakh crore (over $103 billion).
  • Marg ERP limited, a leading Inventory and Accounting software solution company has partnered with ICICI Bank to offer an integrated payments platform to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) customers, using MARG's accounting software.
  • Inflation based on wholesale prices shot up to a 14-month high of 4.43 per cent in May on increasing prices of petrol and diesel as well as vegetables.
  • India's third largest private sector bank, Axis Bank with 17.2 per cent has topped the largest value share of mobile banking transactions whereas Indian e-commerce payment system, Paytm has topped the largest volumes with 22 per cent.
  • Market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has constituted an expert committee to recommend suitable framework to allow direct listing of Indian companies’ overseas bourses while also allowing overseas companies to list directly on Indian bourses.
  • Market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) constituted Group to look into existing Institutional Trading Platform (ITP) framework and suggest measures to facilitate listing of startups.

NATIONAL NEWS
  • Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation launched Swajal Scheme in 115 Aspirational districts of India to provide clean drinking water with total outlay of Rs. 700 crores through flexi-funds under existing National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) budget.
  • The Union Govt approved financial assistance amounting to Rs. 5.5 lakh per family to West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs).
  • The 106th Indian Science Congress is going to be held at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar, Punjab from Jan 3 to 7, 2019 with the theme ‘Future India: Science & Technology’.
  • 20 States signed MoU with Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) for implementing Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM).
  • India will host the 23rd European Union Film Festival (EUFF) on Jun 18-24, 2018 at Siri Fort Auditorium in New Delhi.
  • NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog has launched Composite Water Management Index as useful tool to assess and improve performance in efficient management of water resources.
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the nomination of the Union Home Minister as the ex-officio chairman of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
  • India has hosted the 10th meeting of Global Alliance to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (GAELF) in New Delhi with the theme ‘Celebrating progress towards elimination: Voices from the field on overcoming programme challenges’ on Jun 13, 2018.
  • The Union Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation selected 10 more iconic sites under Phase III of Swachh Iconic Places (SIP) of Swachh Bharat Mission.
  • NITI Aayog has selected 3,000 additional schools for establishment of Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).
  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) launched a contest, '#YogaFor9to5' focused on generating awareness regarding benefits of Yoga at Workplace for Women.
  • The 2nd edition of India-US colloquium on Earth Observations and Sciences for Society and Economy has been inaugurated at the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Dona Paula, Goa.
  • The Union Ministry of Culture launched Seva Bhoj Yojna, a new scheme to provide financial assistance on purchase of specific food items by Charitable Religious Institutions (CRIs) for free distribution among people.
  • Under Seva Bhoj Yojna, Centre’s share of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) charged on the raw food materials purchased by the religious institutions will be refunded.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind embarked on three nation official tour to Greece, Suriname and Cuba from Jun 16 to 22, 2018.
  • India will host the first military exercise of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) countries in Sept 2018 in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • The Union Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeITY) has launched 5000 Wi-Fi Choupals in villages in partnership with common service centres (CSCs).
  • The union govt is going to launch Rs.500 crores Credit Enhancement Fund (CEF) in Jul 2018 to facilitate infrastructure investments by insurance and pension funds.
  • India is planning to bring together group of 8-10 member countries of World Trade Organisation (WTO) to prepare agenda for creation of conducive atmosphere to ensure smooth functioning of the global trade body.
  • Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh has flagged off the 1st batch of three month-long Kailash Mansarovar Yatra-2018 in New Delhi.
  • The Union Ministry of Railways has launched Rail MADAD (Mobile Application for Desired Assistance During travel) Application to expedite and streamline passenger grievance redressal.
  • The World Health Organisation (WHO) commended India’s progress in reducing maternal mortality ratio (MMR) by 77%, from 556 per 10000 live births in 1990 to 130 per 10000 live births in 2016.


STATE NEWS
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dedicated country’s 10th Smart City Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
  • The Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority initiated a ‘water literacy’ campaign with the involvement of 70,000 students aiming to create awareness about the importance of water conservation in the State.
  • The Arunachal Pradesh govt inked an agreement with Andhra Pradesh-based Smart Village Movement (SVM) to facilitate technology innovations, research and development in selected villages of the north-eastern state.
  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has inaugurated and laid foundation stones for more than 100 schemes, worth Rs 875 crore, of the state bridge construction corporation.
  • The Assam govt is planning to launch an awareness programme, 'Sanskar' in all development blocks and panchayats.
  • The Central govt has decided to establish the India's first-ever national police museum, the unique facility in Lutyens’ Delhi.
  • Kerala Govt has lifted high alert issued in the wake of outbreak of deadly Nipah virus in May 2018 in northern Kozhikode and Malappuram districts of state that has so far claimed 17 lives.

  • The Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) plenary meeting has been held in Jurmala, Latvia after Latvia assumed chairmanship of NSG for 2018-19.
  • Latvia, now, became first Baltic state to chair the NSG.
  • The cabinet of Japan has adopted an economic plan that will allow more foreign workers to work in the country.
  • China has imposed additional tariffs and duties on $50-billion worth of American products.
  • United States slapped stiff 25% tariff on US $50 billion worth of Chinese goods.
  • An Indian-American woman, Dhivya Suryadevara has been named the Chief Finance Officer of the US’ largest automaker, General Motors.
  • The  International  Conference  on  Information  and  Communication  Technology  (ICT)  held  in Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal from Jun 17-18, 2018 with the theme "Sustainable Development Goals for Smart Society".
  • The 44th edition of G7 summit 2018 has been hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Quebec on Jun 08–09.
  • This was the 6th time since 1981 that Canada has hosted the meetings.
  • The 45th G7 summit will be held in 2019 in Biarritz, France.
  • Mauritius will host the 11th World Hindi Conference in its capital city Port Lois from Aug 18-20, 2018 with the theme "Vaishvik Hindi Aur Bharatiy Sanskriti".

  • The  Defence  Research  and  Development  Organisation  (DRDO)  converted  the  indigenous  developed Pinaka rocket system into a precision-guided missile, with enhanced range and accuracy to hit its targets.
  • Seychelles President Danny Faure ahead of his state visit to India said that India-Seychelles joint project to develop naval base at Assumption Island in his country will not move forward.
  • NASA’s record-breaking spacewoman, Peggy Whitson has announced her retirement as astronaut less than year after returning from her last and longest spaceflight.
  • The  13th  edition  of  India-Nepal  joint  military  exercise, Surya  Kiran-XIII  has  been  concluded  at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
  • Scientists from Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad discovered distant planet revolving around Sun-like star for first time.
  • Both the planet and the star have been named EPIC.
  • The rocket sciences arm of ISRO, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) decided to transfer its own in-house lithium ion (Li ion) cell technology to successful Indian industries and start-ups on non-exclusive basis in automobiles for Rs. 1 crore.

  • The Union Cabinet approved a proposal for introduction of Dam Safety Bill, 2018 in the Parliament.
  • The Union Cabinet approved  continuation of Three Year Action Plan  (2017-2020) of  scheme for
  • Agricultural Education Division and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Institutes.
  • The Union Cabinet gave final extension till Jul 31, 2018 to commission constituted to examine sub-categorisation within Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Central list.
  • It is headed by Justice (Retd.) G. Rohini.
  • The Union Cabinet has been apprised of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Institut National de la Santeet de la RechercheMedicale (INSERM), France.
  • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has signed an MoU with the Common Service Centres (CSCs) Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for delivery of railway services through CSC centres.
  • India has extended financial aid of Rs. 99 million to Nepal for the construction of 2,700 shallow tube well (STWs) irrigation systems in 12 districts of southern Terai region to boost agricultural productivity.
  • The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) lab has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with RAASI Solar Power Pvt Ltd for transfer of technology for India’s first Lithium Ion (Li-ion) Battery project.

  • The Union govt has constituted a technical committee under the chairmanship of former chief statistician TCA Anant to bring in more transparency in jobs data calculation and presentation.
  • The Union finance ministry has set up a committee, headed by Sunil Mehta, to examine the possibility of setting up an Asset Reconstruction Company (ARC) or an Asset Management Company (AMC) to fast track resolution of stressed assets.
