BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The country’s largest lender, the State Bank of India (SBI) has allowed withdrawing cash from the bank’s point of sale (PoS) devices available with merchants in a bid to ease the cash crunch.
  • The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has extended the total credit support of Rs 14,690 crore to Rajasthan for 2017-18.
  • According to the International Monetary Fund’s World Economic Outlook (WEO) for Apr 2018,
  • India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the worth of the economy, clocked in at $2.6 trillion for 2017.
  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced updated ‘QR code’ for offline Aadhaar verification to strengthen its privacy measures during usage.
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) projected India to grow at 7.4% in 2018 and 7.8% in 2019.
  • The Union Finance Ministry will come out with Rs. 10,000 crore follow-on fund offer of Bharat-22 exchange traded fund (ETF) as it looks to dilute stake in Coal India Limited (CIL) to meet the minimum public holding norm.
  • According to the World Bank twice-a-year South Asia Economic Focus report, India's growth rate has been projected at 7.3% in 2018 and 7.5% for 2019 and 2020.
  • Indian Army signed a Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU) with Axis Bank on Defence Salary Package.
  • The Ministry of Finance under Union Govt in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched first tranche of sovereign gold bonds (SGBs) for current fiscal (FY 2018-19).
  • The E-Way Bill system for Intra-State movement of goods has been rolled out in five more states Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
  • The Ministry of Finance has signed loan agreement with World Bank for IBRD loan of US $48 million for Meghalaya Community – Led Landscapes Management Project (MCLLMP).
  • The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has expected India's gross domestic product (GDP) to grow at 7.3-7.7 per cent during the 2018-19 financial year.
  • The govt has raised the authorized capital of NABARD by six times from 50 billion to Rs 300 billion to help it increase its lending to the rural economy.

  • The Group of Ministers (GoM), constituted by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, proposed "One Nation One Tax policy" for seamless movement of commercial vehicles across the country.
  • GoM meeting, headed by Rajasthan transport minister Yoonus Khan, held in Guwahati, Assam.
  • India will host the 2018 Global IT Challenge for Youth with Disabilities (GITC), to be held in New Delhi from Nov 08 to 11.
  • The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has launched the integration of e-SANAD portal and NAD – National Academic Depository in a bid to make education system in India more transparent.
  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) published new draft rules to make mandatory for automobile manufacturers to provide high security registration plates (HSRP) to all new vehicles from Jan 01, 2019.
  • The first International SME (Small, Medium Enterprises) convention has been organised by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises in New Delhi from Apr 22 to 24, 2018.
  • The Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs approved the 'Study in India' programme to attract foreign students to pursue higher education in India.
  • The first meeting of National Council on India’s Nutrition Challenges under POSHAN Abhiyaan held in New Delhi.
  • The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) released the draft of National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) proposing multiple strategies to reduce air pollution.
  • The Union Ministry of Communications launched DARPAN-PLI application for seamless collection of premium for Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policies.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first Health and Wellness Centre in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh to mark the launch of Ayushman Bharat Yojana- National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM).
  • The Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched FIEO GlobalLinker, a digital platform for MSME exporters to digitise their businesses and join global community of growing businesses.
  • The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) unveiled beta version of portal (www.tariff.trai.gov.in) to enable consumers see tariffs of different TSPs (telecom service providers) and different Licensed Service Areas (LSAs) at single place.
  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued its first official forecast for 2018 southwest monsoon rains in New Delhi.
  • India is coordinating with China and other Asian countries to raise voice against Asian premium charged by Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
  • The Union Govt has launched "Gram Swaraj Abhiyan- Special Interventions", an high-intensity outreach programme to deliver welfare schemes to select villages which need particular attention on the occasion of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti (Apr 14).
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) launched web-based application e-FRRO (e-Foreigners Regional Registration Office) to allow foreign tourists and travelers to avail paperless and cashless visa-related services.
  • The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan launched ‘Gram Swaraj Abhiyan’ to provide free LPG gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved restructured Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA).
