BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has projected the GDP growth to 7.4 per cent in 2018-19 from 6.6 per cent in 2017-18.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has switched back to gross domestic product (GDP) model from the gross value added (GVA) methodology to provide its estimate of economic activity in the country.
  • A joint venture between Reliance Industries and the State Bank of India, Jio Payments Bank Ltd. has commenced operations as a payments bank with effect from Apr 3, 2018.
  • H. Srikrishnan has been appointed as MD and CEO of Jio Payments Bank.
  • India’s largest private sector lender, ICICI Bank has become the first Indian bank to go live on SWIFT’s(Society for World Interbank Financial Telecommunication System) Global Payment Innovation (GPI).
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) constituted an inter-departmental group to study and provide guidance on feasibility to introduce fiat digital currency backed by it.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deferred adoption of Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) by commercial banks for year (till Apr 2019) due to unpreparedness of banks to migrate to the new accounting system.

  • SoftBank has signed a $930-million deal with China's energy conglomerate Golden Concord (GCL) to produce and sell solar equipment in India.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has thrown a lifeline to banks that posted huge treasury losses in the third quarter and faced the prospect of posting losses in the fourth quarter too.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has changed the methodology used by debt market players for the valuation of the prices of securities to prevent the possibility of manipulation in the prices of securities, especially govt securities (G-Secs), on the last trading day of a quarter.

  • The Central Bureau of Excise and Customs (CBEC) under Finance Ministry imposed 10% duty on imports of key smartphone components such as populated printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera modules and connectors.
  • According to Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), the subscriber base of Atal Pension Yojana (APY) stood at 97.05 lakh at end of 2017-18 fiscal.
  • The e-way Bill System for Inter-State movement of goods across the country has been introduced from Apr 1, 2018 in which the businesses and transporters moving goods worth over Rs. 50,000 from one state to another have to carry an electronic or e-way bill.

  • The Union govt has banned imports of hormone oxytocin to stop its misuse in livestock industry, where it causes hormonal imbalances and shortens the lives of milch animals.
  • The Global Logistics Summit, a platform to hold discussions with global experts, academics, govt officials and private sector and industry representatives held in New Delhi.
  • Union Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal has launched the UTTAM App for Coal Quality Monitoring'UTTAM' - 'Unlocking Transparency by Third Party Assessment of Mined Coal'
  • According to Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), India overtook Japan to become world’s second largest producer of crude steel in Feb 2018.
  • China is the largest producer of crude steel in the world

  • The Uttar Pradesh Govt launched the Ganga Hariteema Yojana (also known as Ganga Greenery scheme) in 27 districts of the state located on the bank of river Ganga.
  • The Union Govt, Maharashtra Govt have signed US $420 million loan agreement with World Bank for Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture to help small and marginal farmers in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra.
  • The Union Govt is going to launch a central govt scheme, GOBAR-dhan Yojna nationally from Karnal district of Haryana by the end of Apr 2018. GOBAR - Galvanising Organic Bio Agro Resources.
  • Tamil Nadu Govt launched i-lingual ‘Uzhavan’ (farmer) mobile application in a bid to use technology for benefit of farmers.
  • Madhubani railway station in Bihar got complete makeover with Mithila paintings.
  • Uttarakhand’s second Mega Food Park- Himalayan Mega Food Park Private Ltd inaugurated at Mahuakhera Ganj in Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district.
  • The two-day Assam Spring Festival held at Manas National Park in Assam.
  • Civil Aviation Minister, Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated the first flight under UDAN scheme from Delhi to Pathankot at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

  • The Soft Drinks Industry Levy, also known as soft drinks sugar tax or sin tax or sugar tax came into force in United Kingdom to combat obesity and sugar related disease in the country.
  • The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), often called Summer Davos, is going to be held at Boao, a coastal town in the southern island province of Hainan, China with the theme ‘Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity'.
  • The presidents of Iran, Turkey and Russia met for their second tripartite summit in less than six months, aiming to speed the peace process for Syria and bolster their influence in the country.
  • The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial Conference 2018 is going held in Baku, Azerbaijan with the theme 'Promoting International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development'.
  • The 7th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS-2018) held in Moscow, Russia.

  • Ride-hailer Ola, has acquired Mumbai-based Ridlr, an end-to-end public transport ticketing and commuting app.
