BANKING & ECONOMY

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has projected the GDP growth to 7.4 per cent in 2018-19 from 6.6 per cent in 2017-18.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has switched back to gross domestic product (GDP) model from the gross value added (GVA) methodology to provide its estimate of economic activity in the country.
• A joint venture between Reliance Industries and the State Bank of India, Jio Payments Bank Ltd. has commenced operations as a payments bank with effect from Apr 3, 2018.
• H. Srikrishnan has been appointed as MD and CEO of Jio Payments Bank.
• India’s largest private sector lender, ICICI Bank has become the first Indian bank to go live on SWIFT’s(Society for World Interbank Financial Telecommunication System) Global Payment Innovation (GPI).
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) constituted an inter-departmental group to study and provide guidance on feasibility to introduce fiat digital currency backed by it.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deferred adoption of Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS) by commercial banks for year (till Apr 2019) due to unpreparedness of banks to migrate to the new accounting system.
• The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) constituted 5-member working group (committee) to examine taxation aspects related to High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) who are migrating abroad to other jurisdictions.
• The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) relaxed algorithm trading norms at commodity derivatives exchanges.
• The market regulator, SEBI has raised limit of trading using algorithm trading process up to 100 orders per second by user from the existing limit of 20 orders per second.
• SoftBank has signed a $930-million deal with China's energy conglomerate Golden Concord (GCL) to produce and sell solar equipment in India.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has thrown a lifeline to banks that posted huge treasury losses in the third quarter and faced the prospect of posting losses in the fourth quarter too.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has changed the methodology used by debt market players for the valuation of the prices of securities to prevent the possibility of manipulation in the prices of securities, especially govt securities (G-Secs), on the last trading day of a quarter.
• The Markets regulator, Sebi has decided to double the investment limit by angel funds in venture capital undertakings to Rs 10 crore.
• The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has celebrated its foundation day this year on Apr 02, 2018.
• Jana Small Finance Bank (formerly Janalakshmi Financial Services, India's leading micro-finance company) announced the commencement of its banking operations with the motto 'Likho Apni Kahaani'.
• The Central Bureau of Excise and Customs (CBEC) under Finance Ministry imposed 10% duty on imports of key smartphone components such as populated printed circuit boards (PCBs), camera modules and connectors.
• According to Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), the subscriber base of Atal Pension Yojana (APY) stood at 97.05 lakh at end of 2017-18 fiscal.
• The e-way Bill System for Inter-State movement of goods across the country has been introduced from Apr 1, 2018 in which the businesses and transporters moving goods worth over Rs. 50,000 from one state to another have to carry an electronic or e-way bill.

• President Ram Nath Kovind has embarked on three-nation official state visit to African countries of Equatorial Guinea, Swaziland and Zambia from Apr 7 to 12, 2018.
• The Union govt has banned imports of hormone oxytocin to stop its misuse in livestock industry, where it causes hormonal imbalances and shortens the lives of milch animals.
• The Global Logistics Summit, a platform to hold discussions with global experts, academics, govt officials and private sector and industry representatives held in New Delhi.
• Union Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal has launched the UTTAM App for Coal Quality Monitoring. 'UTTAM' - 'Unlocking Transparency by Third Party Assessment of Mined Coal'
• According to Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI), India overtook Japan to become world’s second largest producer of crude steel in Feb 2018.
• China is the largest producer of crude steel in the world
• According to recently published Internet Security Threat Report by security solutions provider Symantec, India has emerged as the third most vulnerable country in terms of risk of cyber threats, such as malware, spam and ransomware in 2017.
• The Ministry of Commerce and Industry have launched digital initiatives of Export Inspection Council
• (EIC) for ease of export to boost to India’s potential for agricultural and food export.
• According to monthly survey of  Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI),
• India’s manufacturing sector activity fell to five-month low at 51.0 in Mar 2018.

• The Uttar Pradesh Govt launched the Ganga Hariteema Yojana (also known as Ganga Greenery scheme) in 27 districts of the state located on the bank of river Ganga.
• The Union Govt, Maharashtra Govt have signed US $420 million loan agreement with World Bank for Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture to help small and marginal farmers in Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of Maharashtra.
• The Union Govt is going to launch a central govt scheme, GOBAR-dhan Yojna nationally from Karnal district of Haryana by the end of Apr 2018. GOBAR - Galvanising Organic Bio Agro Resources.
• Tamil Nadu Govt launched i-lingual ‘Uzhavan’ (farmer) mobile application in a bid to use technology for benefit of farmers.
• Madhubani railway station in Bihar got complete makeover with Mithila paintings.
• Uttarakhand’s second Mega Food Park- Himalayan Mega Food Park Private Ltd inaugurated at Mahuakhera Ganj in Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district.
• The two-day Assam Spring Festival held at Manas National Park in Assam.
• Civil Aviation Minister, Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated the first flight under UDAN scheme from Delhi to Pathankot at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

• The Soft Drinks Industry Levy, also known as soft drinks sugar tax or sin tax or sugar tax came into force in United Kingdom to combat obesity and sugar related disease in the country.
• The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), often called Summer Davos, is going to be held at Boao, a coastal town in the southern island province of Hainan, China with the theme ‘Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity'.
• The presidents of Iran, Turkey and Russia met for their second tripartite summit in less than six months, aiming to speed the peace process for Syria and bolster their influence in the country.
• The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial Conference 2018 is going held in Baku, Azerbaijan with the theme 'Promoting International Peace and Security for Sustainable Development'.
• The 7th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS-2018) held in Moscow, Russia.
• Nepal has launched its first accessible trekking trail for differently abled and elders in Pokhara city as a part of three-day international conference on "Accessible Tourism".

• Linguist from University of Hyderabad have discovered two endangered languages Walmiki and Malhar, which are predominantly spoken in remote regions of Odisha.
• Indian Navy has conducted multi-agency humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) exercise named 'Chakravat' meaning ‘cyclone’ with coordination of Kerala Govt off Kochi Coast.
• The Indian Air Force (IAF) has carried out one of its biggest combat exercises named 'Gaganshakti 2018' to check its operational preparedness with a focus on dealing with any possible security challenges from China and Pakistan.
• The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia concluded joint military exercise 'Desert Tiger 5' aimed at sharing expertise and enhancing joint military actions in Dubai, UAE.
• The RH-300 MKII sounding rocket developed by IRSO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) launched from Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
• The fourth of eight Mark IV LCU vessels – L54, built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), Kolkata has been formally handed over to Indian Navy at GRSE, Kolkata.
• The Indian Railways inducted three 09-3x Dynamic Tamping Express machines for improved mechanised Track Maintenanc.

• The Union Cabinet approved signing of Cooperation Arrangement between India and Afghanistan for cooperation in the field of food safety and related areas.
• The Union Cabinet approved closure of Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) Burn Standard Company Ltd (BSCL) under Ministry of Railways.
• The Union Cabinet gave its ex-post facto approval to MoU between India and Iran on establishment of an expert group on trade remedy measures. 
• Indian Army has signed an MoU with HDFC Bank on the Defence Salary Package.
• Ride-hailer Ola, has acquired Mumbai-based Ridlr, an end-to-end public transport ticketing and commuting app.
• Rivigo, a homegrown logistics start-up that owns as well as acts as an aggregator of trucks, has tied up with YES Bank, IDFC and 10 other financial institutions to make cheaper funds available to truck owners and operators on its platform. Deepak Garg is the founder and CEO of Rivigo.
