BANKING & ECONOMY
  • Private sector lender, HDFC Bank signed an agreement with the Govt e-Marketplace (GeM) under which the bank will facilitate a host of services to the public procurement portal for Central and state govt organisations.
  • Allahabad Bank has received approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for merger of its fully-owned subsidiary All Bank Finance with itself.
  • The State Bank of India (SBI) signed a pact with India Mortgage Guarantee Corporation (IMGC) to offer mortgage guarantee scheme for prospective non-salaried and self-employed home loan customers.
  • General Insurance Corporation., GIC Re is starting operations in Lloyd’s London office in achieving its aim of increasing the share of international business and making India a regional reinsurance hub.
  • It has a representative office in Moscow, a subsidiary in the UK, which is a member of Lloyd’s of London, and a subsidiary in South Africa.
  • Axis Bank opened a representative office in Sharjah to better serve its customers in the emirate and to expand its retail offerings to customers in the neighbouring northern emirates.

  • The Union govt decided to declare 2018 as 'National Year of Millets' to boost the cultivation of millets like ragi and jowar on a mission mode to achieve nutritional security.
  • The 7th India-Egypt Joint Commission Meeting led by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held in New Delhi.
  • The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment launched India’s first Sign Language Dictionary of 3000 to bring uniformity in sign languages which are used by differently abled people especially people with hearing or speech impairment.
  • The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved launch of Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM) which will integrate two on-going centrally sponsored schemes viz. Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) and Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme (SCHIS).
  • The Union Ministry of Mines launched Sand Mining Framework to help states deal with the sand mining issues, including demand supply deficit and illegal extraction at the 3rd National Conclave on Mines & Minerals held in New Delhi.
  • India’s largest commodities exchange platform, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX) launched world’s first brass futures contracts.
  • The 106th edition of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) is going to held at the Barkatullah University in Bhopal,  Madhya  Pradesh  from  Jan  03  to  07,  2019  with  the  theme  ‘Future  India:  Science  & Technology’.
  • The 17th Annual Conference of International Competition Network 2018 (ICN2018) held in New Delhi.
  • The first National workshop on POSHAN Abhiyan involving all the states and union territories held at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, New Delhi.
  • National Cultural Audiovisual Archives (NCAA) project of the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, has been certified as the world’s first Trusted Digital Repository.
  • Centre approved setting up of a plastic park in Deoghar district of Jharkhand at an estimated cost of 120 crore rupees and is spread over 150 acres of land.

  • The 2018 India Maize Summit held at FICCI in New Delhi to harness the potential of maize and technological innovations.
  • The famous Madhavpur Mela started at Madhavpur Ghed in Porbandar district of Gujarat from Mar 25, 2018.
  • The world’s longest sandstone cave named Krem Puri discovered near Laitsohum village in Mawsynram area in East Khasi hills district of Meghalaya.
  • The External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) launched 'Videsh Aaya Pradesh ke Dwaar', an engagement programme with regional media in Hyderabad, Telangana.
  • The Punjab Govt observed the martyrdom day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru as 'Youth Empowerment Day' on Mar 23, 2018.
  • Chandigarh becomes the North India’s first city to install digital automatic speed gun cameras for traffic management.
  • Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan launched a unified app, M-Kerala for all govt services at #FUTURE 2018.
  • The first-ever National Conference on Drug Law Enforcement, inaugurated by Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, held in New Delhi.
  • The Andhra Pradesh govt launched a multi-utility vehicle "NAIPUNYA RATHAM (or World on Wheels)" to bring technology to the remote corners.
  • The Kerala govt declared Jackfruit as the official fruit of the state to promote the ‘Kerala Jackfruit’ as a brand in markets across the country and abroad.

  • The first G20 meeting of Finance ministers & central Bank Governors held at the Center of Exhibitions and Conventions (CEC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • According to Mercer’s 20th annual Quality of Living survey 2018, Vienna topped the ranking among 231 cities for the 9th consecutive year followed by Switzerland’s Zurich, while New Zealand’s Auckland and Germany’s Munich tied for third place.
  • Hyderabad and Pune have been jointly ranked at 142, making the best Indian cities to live in.
  • The 44 African countries from total 55 members of African Union (AU) signed agreement to create African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), one of the world’s largest free trade blocs at a summit held in Kigali, Rwanda.
  • According to International Energy Agency (IEA), the global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions rose to historic high of 32.5 gigatonnes in 2017 due to higher energy demand and slowing of energy efficiency improvements.
