BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Dec 06 has decided to maintain status quo and keep its key interest rate, the repo rate, unchanged at 6 per cent in its fifth bi-monthly policy review of the fiscal year.
  • The RBI retained its GDP projections for the year at 6.7 per cent with risks evenly balanced in its fifth bi-monthly policy review of the fiscal year.
  • On inflation outlook, the RBI projected that it would be in the region of 4.3% to 4.7% in Q3 and Q4 this fiscal.
  • The country's largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI) has changed the names and IFSC codes of branches located in major cities such as Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow, among others.
  • According to global financial services major Morgan Stanley, the Indian economy is expected to witness cyclical growth recovery, with real GDP growth likely to accelerate from 6.4 per cent in 2017 to 7.5 per cent in 2018 and further to 7.7 per cent in 2019.
  • Axis Securities, a subsidiary of Axis Bank, has become the first-ever broking arm of a bank to take membership of a commodity exchange by registering itself with NCDEX.
  • India's largest digital bank Paytm Payments Bank has unveiled a ‘Paytm Ka ATM’ outlet that allows customers to open Saving Accounts and deposit/withdraw money from their bank accounts.
  • The Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Board of Directors has approved debt financing and partial risk guarantees totalling $583 million to develop the Reliance Bangladesh Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Power Project.
  • Corporation Bank has launched its RuPay Select and RuPay Platinum credit cards.

NATIONAL NEWS
  • The first International Exhibition and Conference on AYUSH and Wellness sector, AROGYA 2017 inaugurated by AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik in New Delhi.
  • The theme of AROGYA 2017 is ‘Enhancing the global potential of AYUSH’.
  • It  aims  to  promote  and  strengthen  awareness  and  interest  about  AYUSH  (Ayurveda,  Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy).
  • Kacheguda Railway Station in Hyderabad under the South Central Railway (SCR) has earned the unique distinction of being the first Energy Efficient ‘A1 Category’ Railway Station on Indian Railways.
  • According to the IEA’s World Energy Outlook Report 2017, re-launched in association with The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) in New Delhi, India will achieve “electricity for all” by the early 2020s.
  • India has been declared free from infective Trachoma, a contagious bacterial infection of the eye.
  • India has become the 42nd participating State of Wassenaar Arrangement after completing the internal procedures in Vienna on Dec 8, 2017.
  • A public procurement portal, ‘MSME Sambandh’, was launched by MSME Ministry with the objective of monitoring the implementation of the public procurement from MSEs by Central public sector enterprises.
  • UN Women in collaboration with Facebook inaugurated a two day event titled 'We The Women' in Mumbai to empower and recognize the magnificent contribution of women in our society.
  • The Taj Mahal, India's iconic ivory-white marble mausoleum in Agra, becomes the second best UNESCO world heritage site after Cambodia's Angkor Wat in the world.

  • Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge) Dr. Mahesh Sharma has inaugurated the three days

  • The US Supreme Court has allowed President Donald Trump's travel ban to take full effect for people coming from six Muslim-majority countries Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and Chad.

  • The Surface to Air Missile (SAM) AKASH was successfully tested with indigenous radio frequency seeker against target UAV Banshee from Launch Complex-III at ITR Chandipur.
  • South Korea and United States have launched Vigilant Ace, their largest-ever joint aerial drills.

  • India and Israel have jointly set up a centre for excellence in floriculture at Thally in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.
  • The Union Health Ministry and Rotary International India National Polio Plus signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for intensive efforts towards achieving the immunization target.
  • The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has set up three members committee under the chairmanship of George Kurien to study the matter to give minority status to Hindus in 7 states and one UT where their population is less than 50%.
