Indian Air Force 2017-18 has released the recruitment notification for the post of Airmen. Online Applications are invited from unmarried male (Indian/Nepalese) to join as airmen in group “X” trades (except education instructor trade) and group “Y” trades (except automobile technician, ground training instructor, Indian air force (police), Indian air force (security) and musician trades).

Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017: Eligibility Criteria
Qualification for Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017:
Candidates applying for IAF Vacancy Recruitment should have the following educational qualifications,
Group - X (Except Education Instructor Trade)
- Passed Intermediate/10+2/ Equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics and English with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.
- Passed Three years Diploma Course in Engineering in any stream, as mentioned in the drop down menu of apply online section under candidate’s login on the CASB web portal www.indianairforce.nic.in.
- The candidate should have completed the course from a Government recognized Polytechnic institute with 50% marks in aggregate and 50 % marks in English in diploma or in Intermediate/Matriculation, if English is not subject in Diploma Course.
Group -Y {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades.
- Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent Examination in any stream/subjects approved by Central / State Education Boards with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English
- Group „Y‟ Medical Assistant Trade Only. Passed 10+2/Intermediate/ equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English
- Candidate eligible for Group X examination are also eligible for Group Y and would be given an option of appearing in both group X and Group Y exam in one sitting while filling up the online registration form.
- Diploma holders are eligible to appear for Group X trades only.
- Education Boards listed in Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE) website as members, as on date of registration will only be permitted
- Exact aggregate Percentage of marks before decimal as written in the marks sheet of 10+2/ Intermediate/Equivalent Examination/Three years Diploma Course OR calculated as per the rules of concerned Education Board/Polytechnic Institute will only be considered (For example 49.99% should be taken as 49% and not to be rounded off to 50%).
Age Limit for Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017:
- Candidate born between 13 January 1998 and 02 January 2002 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply.
- In case, a candidate clears all the stages of the Selection Procedure, then the upper age limit as on date of enrollment is 21 years
Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017: Selection Process
The Selection Procedure of Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017 for group X & Y is divided in three stages, where the final selection of the candidate will be made on the basis of these tests and selection will be done exclusively on merit.
- Online Test
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

Indian Air Force (IAF) Recruitment 2017 – Examination Pattern
IAF Airmen 2017 - 18: Phase - I: Online Test
Online Test {For both Group ‘X’ Trades (except Education Instructor Trade)} & Group Y’ {except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF(P), IAF(S) and Musician Trades}.
Online test will be of the objective type where questions will be bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English paper. For both the Groups X & Y candidates opting for shall be conducted on the same day and on the same system. For Phase – I, candidates have to bring one blue/black pen and original valid ID proof along with them.
For Group ‘X’ Trades:
- Duration of the Online test will be 85 minutes and will comprise of English, Physics, Mathematics, Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA) as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus.
- For Group ‘Y’ {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades: Duration of the Online test will be 70 minutes and will comprise of English as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA).
Final Merit List
List of the candidates who cleared all the stages will be called for the final enrolment on 10th December 2018 whereas the provisional selection list will be displayed on the same day at all Airmen selection centres and on its official website.
IAF Airmen 2017 - 18: Phase - II: Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
Once you have cleared the online test and are shortlisted as per merit which will be displayed on the CASB Web Portal airmenselection.cdac.in on a stipulated date will be called for designated Airmen Selection Centre for Physical Fitness Test (PFT) which would consist of
- 1.6 Km run to be completed within 06 minutes and 30 seconds.
- 10 push-ups,
- 10 sit-ups and
- 20 squats within the stipulated time to qualify the Test.
Note: Candidates are advised to bring their own sports shoes and shorts/Track pants.
Adaptability Test-1 (For both Group ‘X’ & Group ‘Y’ Trades):
All candidates who pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will have to undertake Adaptability Test-1 (objective type written test) which is to assess suitability of a candidate for employment in the IAF which involves deployment in varied geographic terrain, weather and operational conditions.
Adaptability Test-2 (For both Group ‘X’ & Group ‘Y’ Trades):
All candidates who pass Adaptability Test -1 will have to undertake Adaptability Test-2 as per policy in vogue. Adaptability Test-2 is to select candidates who can adapt to the environment of Indian Air Force and are able to adjust to the military way of life.
Note: Also, the candidates qualifying both Group X and Y will be allotted the group on the basis of merit as well as by preference filled at the time of application.
IAF Airmen 2017 - 18: Phase - III: Medical Examination
Candidates who qualify both the Adaptability Test will be issued medical appointment letter at respective ASCs. Medical Examination will be conducted by the Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards and policy in vogue.
Medical examination would also include Baseline Investigation of:
- Blood Haemogram – Hb, TLC, DLC
- X- Ray chest (PA view)
- Biochemistry
- Urine RE/ME
- Blood Sugar Fasting & PP
- Serum Cholesterol
- Urea, Uric acid, Creatinine
- LFT—Serum Bilurubin, SGOT, SGPT
- ECG (R)
Pay Scale for Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017:
The IAF offers a pay scale to its employees according to the post they are recruited in. Basic pay scale in Group ‘X’ Trades, Group Y’ Jobs is given below
- Group - X Trades (Except Education Instructor Trade). Rs.33,100/- per month
- Group - Y Trades {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades. Rs. 26,900/- per month
Indian Air Force (IAF) Airmen Recruitment 2017: Application Fees
- Examination fee of Rs.250/-is to be paid by the candidate while registering for the online examination. The payment can be made by using Debit Cards/ Credit Cards/Internet Banking through payment gateway. The examination fee can also be paid by Challan payment at any Axis Bank Branch.
