World Tourism Day celebrates globally.

  • The World Tourism Day is celebrated across the world on 27th of September.
  • The theme for World Tourism Day 2017 is ‘Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development‘.

India ranks 40th in 2017 Global Competitiveness Index.

  • India moves to 40th spot among 137 countries in World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) 2017-18 against 39th position in 2016-17.
  • India remains most competitive country in South Asia.
  • Top 5 Countries are Switzerland (1st), United States (2nd), Singapore (3rd), Netherlands (4th) and Germany (5th).

Kandla Port renamed as Deendayal Port.

  • Kandla Port Trust is renamed as Deendayal Port Trust with effect from 25 September 2017, says a notification issued by the Union Ministry of  Shipping.
  • Kandla Port, located on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, is one of the 12 major ports in India.

Srinar boy becomes ambassador for Swachhata Hi Seva.

  • Bilal Dar, 18 year old young boy from Srinagar has become the brand ambassador for Swachhata Hi Seva in Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
  • He also found a mention in the Prime Minister’s recent Mann Ki Baat.

Reliance Industries Ltd becomes world’s third-biggest energy company.

  • According to Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings, Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is the world’s third-biggest energy company behind Russian gas firm Gazprom and German utility E.ON.
  • Indian Oil Corp (IOC) climbed to 7th position from 14th and Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC)was placed at 11th position against 20th in 2016.

PENCIL to achieve child labour free society.

  • Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh launched the Platform for Effective Enforcement for No Child Labour (PENCIL) Portal at the National  Conference on Child Labour organised by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
  • The PENCIL is an electronic platform to achieve the target of child labour free society.

CISF Security at Mumbai Airport Rated Best in World.

  • CISF security cover at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai, has been adjudged as the best airport security by the World Quality Congress (WQC).
  • The CISF has been providing security coverage to the Mumbai Airport, the second busiest and hypersensitive airport in India, since August 21, 2002.

Angola gets new president after 38 years.

  • Former Defense Minister Joao Lourenco sworn in as President of Angola after the previous president, José Eduardo dos Santos, retires.
