Ravi Shastri is new coach of Indian Cricket Team


  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named former all-rounder and captain ‘Ravi Shastri’ (55-year) as the new chief coach of the Indian cricket team till ICC World Cup 2019.
  • Former fast bowler ‘Zaheer Khan’ has also appointed as bowling coach for a period of two years.
  • Former Indian Captain ‘Rahul Dravid’ has appointed as batting consultant for specific overseas tours.
  • Earlier, the head coach ‘Anil Kumble’ has resigned from the post after the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
  • A head coach is a person involved in the direction, instruction and training of the operations of a sports team.


SLC Board appoints Upul Tharanga as ODI & T-20 captain


  • The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) has appointed ‘Dinesh Chandimal’ as Test Skipper and ‘Upul Tharanga’ as One Day International (ODI) and T20 captain for the upcoming series against India.
  • Team India will play three Test matches, five ODIs and one T20 in Sri Lanka.
  • Earlier, Angelo Mathews has resigned as the captain of the Sri Lanka after lost to Zimbabwe in the ODI series.


Japan’s men-only island gets UNESCO heritage tag


  • A men-only island in Japan (women are banned) and male visitors must bathe naked in the sea before visiting its shrine, has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • The tiny landmass of Okinoshima is permanently manned by a Shinto priest who prays to the island’s goddess, in a tradition that has been kept up for centuries.
  • UNESCO’s heritage committee considered 33 sites for the prestigious status at its annual gathering in Poland.


P V Sindhu bags ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ award


  • Rio Olympics silver medallist ‘P V Sindhu’ was bestowed with the 'Sportsperson of the Year' award during the ‘Maruti Suzuki Sportsperson of the Year’ Charity Gala Awards.
  • P Gopichand (Sindhu’s coach) has received the Coach of the Year award while the Flying Sikh ‘Milkha Singh’ was given the Living Legend of the Year award.
  • Young India cricketer K L Rahul was awarded Gamechanger of the Year award.
  • The 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra was given the Lifetime Achievement Award.


Mother Teresa’s Blue-Bordered Sari declared an Intellectual Property


  • The Blue-bordered sari of Mother Teresa has been recognized as an Intellectual Property of the Missionaries of Charity.
  • The blue border pattern is a distinctive symbolic identity of Missionaries of Charity under the concept of color trademark protection.
  • This is the first time that a uniform has been made an intellectual property.
  • Indian government approved its first Intellectual Property Rights Policy in May 2016.The "Copyright Act, 1957" (as amended by the Copyright Amendment Act 2012) governs the subject of copyright law in India.


Chhattisgarh govt to merge regional Co-Operative Banks into State Co-Operative Bank


  • The Chhattisgarh state govt. has decided to merge all regional Co-Operative Banks into a mega-State Co-Operative Bank.
  • Now, the 264 branches will remain functional and will here on work as Scheduled Co-Operative Banks.
  • It will help in reducing the interests on farm loans by up to 2%.
  • The farmers will get modern facilities including core banking, mobile and internet banking.


Chandigarh PGI becomes first govt hospital in country to perform lung transplant


  • The Post-graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh has become the first government hospital in the country to perform a lung transplant.
  • Now, the Institute becomes the first in the northern region and the first government hospital in the country to perform such transplant.
  • The institute has been successfully performing heart, kidney, pancreas, liver, and Cornea transplants.


Group of Ministers approves Draft national policy for women


  • A Group of Ministers, headed by ‘Sushma Swaraj’ (External Affairs Minister) has approved a draft national policy for women proposing free education for girls from poor families and a health card for all women.
  • The draft National Policy for Women -2017, also moots that a woman accused of a non-heinous crime, who has remained an under-trial for one-third of her jail time, should be given bail.


SEBI amends guidelines for foreign investors looking to operate at IFSC


  • Markets regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has amended the guidelines for eligible foreign investors looking to operate at the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).
  • Now, a trading member of a stock exchange in the IFSC can carry out the due diligence for an eligible foreign investor(EFI), who is not registered with the regulator as a Foreign Portfolio Investor (FPI).
  • The provision has been made for the account opening process of an eligible foreign investor(EFI).
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is the regulator for the securities market in India.
  • It was established in the year 1988 and given statutory powers on 30 January 1992 through the SEBI Act, 1992.


Bank of Baroda to raise up to Rs 3,000 Cr via Basel III bonds


  • Bank of Baroda (BoB) is set to raise up to Rs. 3,000 Crore through Basel III compliant bonds.
  • The finance committee of the bank approved to the issuance of AT-1 capital bonds compliant with Basel III capital regulations for a minimum amount of Rs. 500 Crore with green shoe option.
  • The raising of funds will be in single or multiple tranches.
  • Bank of Baroda (BoB) is an Indian state-owned International banking and financial services company headquartered in Vadodara in Gujarat.
  • Its headquarters is in Vadodara and corporate office in Mumbai.


SBI waives charge on IMPS fund transfer of up to Rs 1,000


  • State Bank of India (SBI) has waived charges for fund transfer of up to Rs. 1,000 through its IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) to promote small transactions.
  • Earlier, SBI had been charging Rs. 5 along with the applicable service tax for IMPS fund transfer of up to Rs. 1,000.
  • For IMPS, a charge will be Rs. 5 along GST for fund transfer in the range of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1 lakh and the charge will go up to Rs. 15 for transactions of Rs. 1-2 lakhs.
  • GST at the rate of 18% is applicable on all financial transactions.

Note:
Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) mean an instant interbank electronic fund transfer service through mobile phones as well as internet banking.
