What is SSC CGL Exam?

SSC CGL is Combined Graduate level exam which is conducted by Selection Staff Commission. You get very good central government job after clearing this exam.

What is the Educational Qualification for SSC CGL Examination?

As per the Official SSC notification, You need to be graduate in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government on or before 01.08.2017. There are few posts of SSC CGL in which additional qualification is required.

(i) Assistant Audit Officer: This is the new post of SSC CGL which was introduced in 2016.
  1. Essential Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or Institute
  2. Desirable Qualification for the Post of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO): Chartered Accountant or Cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Economics. 
(ii) Statistical Investigator Grade - II:

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute and at least 60% in Mathematics at 12th standard.

Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

(iii) Compiler:

Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics/Statistics/Mathematics as compulsory or Elective subject.

What is the Age Limit for SSC CGL Examination?

Which date of birth will be valid for SSC CGL 2017?

Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation / Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate available on the date of submission of application will be accepted as proof of date of birth.

How Would I know that I am eligible to fill the SSC CGL 2017 Application form or not?

As per official notification of SSC CGL, in order to be eligible for the exam, a candidate should possess following – Minimum age of the Candidate should be 18 years and Maximum age is 30 years as on 01.08.2017.
Minimum Educational Qualifications: 
  • Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government on or before 01.08.2017.
  • Degree obtained through open Distance Education or Open University mode like IGNOU, needs to be recognized by Distance Education Council Accordingly.
  • Candidates who will not acquire the educational qualification as on 01-08-2017 will not be eligible and need not apply.
Important Note- If marks are not available, equivalent marks (upto last semester marks) may be filled or marks column may be left blank.

Is there any percentage criteria to apply for SSC CGL 2017 Exam?

There is no minimum percentage criteria to apply for SSC CGL 2017 Examination.

I’m in the last semester/ last year of college? Can I apply? 

Yes, If your final result/marksheet is declared before 01.08.2016 then you are eligible. 

Can I fill the application form offline?

No. You have to fill the application form online.

Is Aadhar Card mandatory to fill SSC CGL 2017 Exam? 

No it is not mandatory to possess Aadhar Card to register for SSC CGL 2017  Exam.

What should be the format of photo and signature image?

it should be in JPG format.

What should be the size of the Photo and Signature to be uploaded while filling the SSC CGL Application form?

Photo should not be less than 30 KB and not more than 50 Kb and Signature should not be less than 1 KB and not more than 12 Kb.

Can I pay the Application fee offline and What is the Application fee?

Yes, You can submit the Application form fee offline also. First you have to generate challan online and then visit a nearby bank to submit your fee.Fee amount is 100 Rs.Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstance.

Which category of candidates is exempted from examination fees for exams?

SC/ST, physically handicapped, Ex-servicemen and women candidates are exempted from payment of fees.

Do we need to send hard Copy of application form to SSC?

No

Does SSC CGL exam have sectional cut­offs like in IBPS and RBI exams?

There is no Sectional cut Offs.

Is there any new post introduced by SSC this year also like Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) was introduced in 2016?

Yes, This year also a new post has been introduced by SSC CGL which is Assistant Accounts Officer with gradepay 4800.

How to get OBC creamy Layer benefits?

To claim OBC reservation benefit, you need two certificates  i.e. the caste certificate and the creamy layer certificate. It should be in the format provided by SSC.Candidates claiming OBC status may note that certificate on creamy layer status should have been obtained according to the dates mentioned in the exam advt. This depends on the income/status of your PARENTS (this is clearly mentioned in page 10 of the official notification), means this doesn’t depend on your own job/business OR your husband’s job/business. If your mom/dad is government employee then INCOME criteria doesn’t apply. (e.g. if dad is class3 employee, then it doesn’t matter whether he gets 6 lakhs or 7 lakhs. You’re still noncream layer. If your parents have private business, then income criteria applies. (Max. 6 Lakh rupees annual income) In short, make sure you’ve these certificates, else make trip to Tehsildar’s office/Collector Office/Jan-Seva Kendra and get the proper certificates. Otherwise, SSC will reject you at the last stage, during document verification and your entire year will be wasted for nothing

I use -5D spectacles, will it create any problem in income tax inspector or any other post?

No, no problem at all. Your vision should be 6/6 using glasses.

Will SSC sent admit card to my communication adress which i mentioned while filling the Application form?

Is tier 1 of qualifying nature only?

I have colour blindness, Which are the posts of SSC CGL 2017 suitable for me?

Passing of the colour-blindness test is necessary for EXAMINER, PREVENTIVE OFFICER, EXCISE INSPECTOR, SI CBI, SI NIA and INSPECTOR CBN.

Is it mandatory to appear in SSC CGL Tier II (Paper ­3(Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler) and Paper 4(Assistant Audit Officer)) as my name is in the list?

No, it is not compulsory. Tier II of SSC CGL conducts total 4 papers in which paper 1 (Quantitative Aptitude) and paper 2 (English) are compulsory for all the posts while paper 3 and paper 4 are optional .If you have applied for Statistical Investigator Gr.II & Compiler and Assistant Audit Officer while filling your SSC CGL 2017 Application form then you can appear for paper 3 and paper 4 of tier II but in this case also it is not compulsory. 

What will happen if I am absent in Paper ­3 /Paper 4  of SSC CGL Tier II because my name is mentioned in the list of Qualified candidates for Paper III?

If you don't write SSC CGL Paper 3 /Paper 4 of tier II, then you will not be considered for Statistical Investigator/ post. But you will get any of the rest of the posts you applied for, if you qualify.

If I appear in statistics paper and unable to qualify, then won't I get any of the posts?

Well, if you are unable to pass in paper ­3 of SSC CGL Tier II Exam, then you will be considered for other posts. SSC will consider your name for another post for which you are eligible.

After qualifying in Paper ­3 of SSC CGL Tier II, should I need to provide any documents in favor of statistics paper during documents verification?

During your documents verification, you need to provide your degree/ master level certificates/ mark sheet to give a proof that you have studied statistics paper in your college level exam. It is mandatory.

General Queries:

Can I Prepare for both the SSC and IBPS at the same time?

Yes any aspirants can prepare for SSC, IBPS and even for any other competitive exam at the same time because the syllabus of all the exams are more or less similar. And with a proper strategy you may get success in all the exams.

I am preparing for Civil Services, should I prepare for SSC Exams also ?

Why not ? An aspirant of Civil Services can also prepare for SSC exams because after change in pattern and syllabus of Civil Services in 2011 now you have to prepare Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning and unseen passages even for the civil services exam and all these sections are the part of SSC exams also. And GS is the part of syllabus of both SSC and Civil services. So you should certainly prepare for SSC exam even when you are preparing for Civil Services.

What is the time required for preparing for SSC Exams?

If you are serious about study and ready to dedicate 5 to 6 hours daily for study, then normally you may prepare the syllabus within 3 to 4 months. There are many students who got success within 3 months of preparation. 

Need to join a coaching center for SSC exams?

If you are able to grab the things of your own, then in my opinion nothing is better than self-study. I don’t think visiting a coaching center is necessary at all. There are many factors on the basis of which I’m saying that one needs to avoid going to a coaching center. A few of them are:


  • Loss of time as the time spent going to and fro could be utilized in self-study or what.
  • Physical tiredness
  • Monetary loss
  • Difficulty in finding good coaching institute.


I filled up the form of SSC CGL 2017 once but I want to make some changes . Can I apply again? I have made some mistake in typing date of birth, graduation marks, can I apply again?

In case of multiple applications for online application form, the last application for which part-I and part-II registration have been completed will be accepted. For example you applied first time and got registration ID: ABC2345. You applied again, after a few days and got registration ID: ABC5678. SSC will send you the admit card according to this second application.Please try to fill the Application form correctly in the first time itself. Take your time and fill out the correct details.

I’ve done graduation from xyz postal/distance Education University. Is my degree valid for this SSC CGL exam?

Yes if your course is recognized by Distance Education Council, IGNOU.
