Legendary Bollywood Actress Sridevi passed away

  • Veteran Bollywood actor Sridevi passed away due to cardiac arrest in Dubai. She was 54 years old.
  • In 1978, she made her Bollywood debut with "Solva Sawan".
  • Born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan, Sridevi worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films before entering Hindi films.
  • In 2013, she was awarded the fourth highest civilian honour Padma Shri award.
  • Her most remarkable films include Sadma, Chandni, Himmatwala, ChaalBaaz, Mr India, Nagina, Mawali, Tohfa and Gumrah among others.

Aruna Budda Reddy becomes the first Indian to win a medal Gymnastics World Cup

  • Aruna Budda Reddy created history as she became the first Indian gymnast to win a medal in the Gymnastics World Cup.
  • She bagged a bronze medal at the World Cup Gymnastics Series event in Melbourne.
  • She is a 22-year-old and hails from Hyderabad, Telangana.
  • She is the third Indian gymnast after Ashish Kumar and Dipa Karmakar, who won bronze in the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games respectively.

Parupalli Kashyap wins Austrian Open

  • Commonwealth Games 
  • champion Parupalli Kashyap won the Austrian Open International Challenge Badminton title.
  • He defeated Malaysia's June Wei Cheam in the final.
  • This is the first international title of the Parupalli Kashyap in over three years.
  • Parupalli Kashyap is a badminton player of India, he belongs from Hyderabad.

ICC approved Cricket Canada T20 league

  • The International Cricket Council has approved the Cricket Canada official T20 league – Global T20 Canada.
  • The league will be played in Toronto in July.
  • With this announcement, Cricket Canada becomes the first Associate member of the ICC to set in motion a Twenty20 franchise league in the lucrative North America market.
  • The league has been “conceptualised, designed, developed and managed by Mercuri Group with Cricket Canada, the official governing body for the sport in the country.

Mary Kom & Seema Poonia won Silver medal at Strandja Memorial Boxing tournament

  • Boxing champion MC Mary Kom and Seema Poonia won the Silver medal in the final 69th Strandja Memorial Boxing tournament at Sofia in Bulgaria.
  • Mary Kom lost to Bulgarian Sevda Asenova in the 48-kilogram title bout.
  • Seema Poonia lost to Russian Anna Ivanova in the 81 kg final.
  • Earlier, Laisharam Sarita Devi (60 kg), Meenakumari Devi Maisnam (54 kg), Bhagyabati Kachari (81 kg) and Saweety Bora (75 kg) bagged bronze after losing their semi-final bouts.

UIDAI launch 'Baal Aadhaar' for children below the age of 5

  • Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched the blue colour 'Baal Aadhaar' cards, which will be given to children below the age of five years.
  • When the child becomes 5 years old, a mandatory biometric update is required.
  • While children of such age do not have to mandatorily enrol for Aadhaar, it is mandatory for attending educational programmes overseas to availing other government scholarships.
  • No biometric will be recorded if the child is below five years and only a photograph would be sufficient.
  • If a child is above the age of five, the enrollment form has to be filled out and crucial documents such as birth certificate and school's identity card have to be provided.

Andaman and Nicobar Command to host Milan 2018

  • The multinational mega event 'Milan 2018'will be hosted by the Andaman and Nicobar Command in the second week of March 2018.
  • The theme of the event will be 'Friendship Across the Seas'.
  • The Indian Navy will host the multi-national MILAN series of exercises at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands from March 6 to March 13, 2018.
  • The main aim of the event Milan 2018 is to highlight the rich heritage and pristine natural beauty of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the foreign visitors.

International Conference on Sustainable Biofuels held in New Delhi

  • A two- day International Conference on Sustainable Biofuels held in New Delhi.
  • The conference was organized by Department of Biotechnology on behalf of Mission Innovation and Biofuture Platform.
  • Union Minister for Science and technology Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the Conference.
  • The main of the conference is to provide a common platform to Government policy makers, industry, investors and research community to exchange experiences and challenges related to development and scaling of advanced biofuels.

21st National Conference on e-Governance begins in Hyderabad

  • The 21st national conference on e-Governance begins in Hyderabad.
  • The theme of the conference is ‘Around- technology for accelerating development’.
  • The conference was organised jointly by the government of India and Telangana Administrative Reforms Department.

DRDO conducts successful flight of its Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle ‘Rustom 2’

  • The Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle Rustom 2 was successfully flown by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at its Aeronautical Test Range at Chalker in Chitradurga district of Karnataka.
  • DRDO is developing within India a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle RUSTOM 2.
  • It has the capability to fly for 24 hours at a stretch at over 200 kilometres per hour speed, and can, not only conduct sustained surveillance but will be able to destroy enemy targets.
  • It will have the capability to carry synthetic aperture radar, electronic intelligence systems and weapons.

  • Michael McCormack has been elected new Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.
  • He replaces Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce who was forced to resign last week amid public anger over an extramarital affair with his former press secretary.

Former cabinet secretary T S R Subramanian passed away

  • The former Cabinet secretary of India TSR Subramanian passed away in Delhi.
  • He was the Cabinet Secretary from August 1996, to March 1998.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan mascot Kunwar Bai passes away

  • Kunwar Bai, who was chosen as a mascot for the `Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' was passed away after a prolonged illness.
  • She was 106-years-old and belongs to the Chhattisgarh state.
  • In 2016, she got into the limelight when the story of Kunwar Bai got the nationwide publicity that how she sold her goats to build a toilet at home.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated Kunwar Bai at a public meeting at Kurrubhat village in Rajnandgaon district, and later made a mascot for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
