BANKING & ECONOMY
  • State Bank of India (SBI) observed Vigilance Awareness Week -2017 from Oct 30 to Nov 04 at all its offices/branches with the theme "My Vision–Corruption Free India".
  • India’s fifth largest Private Sector Bank, Yes Bank unveiled a superior payment wallet service BHIM YES PAY by fully integrating the application with all IndiaStack APIs and NPCI Products.
  • ICICI Bank, India's largest private sector bank by consolidated assets, launched the India's first voice-based international remittance service on its Money2India application to enable non-resident Indians (NRIs) to send money to any bank in India.
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is mulling to bring Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) under its existing legal framework.
  • The Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Ministry has launched MSME Delayed Payment Portal – MSME Samadhaan (http://msefc.msme.gov.in).
  • The Centre’s fiscal deficit rose to Rs. 4,98,938 crore or 91.3 per cent of the Budget target between April and September 2017.
  • AU Small Finance Bank tied up with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to launch a Rs. 200-crore fund for providing loans to MSMEs.

NATIONAL NEWS
  • India’s 1st consignment of wheat assistance to Afghanistan reaches Chabahar port.
  • PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated World Food India 2017 (WFI) on Nov 03 at the India Gate Lawns in New Delhi to transform food economy and realize vision of doubling of farmers’ income.
  • The 21st World Congress of Mental Health was inaugurated by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind in New Delhi with theme “Partnerships for Mental Health”.
  • India set Guinness world record by cooking 918 kg Khichdi, a traditional multi-grain dish during three day World Mega Food India event held in New Delhi.
  • The Union Ministry of Communications has launched Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana, a pan India scholarship program for school children to increase the reach of Philately. SPARSH - Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby
  • The Union Ministry of Shipping has extended period of Coastal Berth scheme of flagship Sagarmala Programme for three years upto March, 2020.
  • The govt has taken up projects worth Rs 2,302 crore for financial assistance under the Coastal Berth Scheme to provide financial support to ports or state govts for creation of infrastructure for movement of cargo and passenger by sea or national waterways.
  • The Union govt has constituted Alternative Mechanism Panel headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley that will oversee merger proposals of public sector banks (PSBs).
  • The 9th edition of ‘CMS Vatavaran’, a global film festival on environment and wildlife held in New Delhi on Nov 2 with the theme “Conservation 4 Water”.
  • The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Global Clubfoot Conference organized by the CURE India in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off ‘the Run for Unity’ to commemorate the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel observed as Ekta Diwas on Oct 31.
  • India will host next UN Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Conference of Parties 13 (CMS COP13) in year 2020.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Indian Railways’ 110km Bidar-Kalaburgi railway track in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region that is aimed at reducing the distance between Bengaluru and New Delhi by 380km and travel time by six to eight hours.

STATE NEWS
  • The Geographical Indication Registry (GIR) has given Geographical Indication (GI) tag traditional Etikoppaka toys (Etikoppaka Bommalu) from Andhra Pradesh.
  • Walmart India launched its first Fulfillment Centre in Mumbai to focus exclusively on FMCG products and staples.
  • UP Govt has approved Blackbuck Conservation Reserve, first of its kind conservation reserves in India, in trans-Yamuna belt near Allahabad.
  • The  Border  Roads  Organisation  (BRO)  has  constructed  world’s  highest  motorable  road  in Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • India’s largest power producer NTPC Ltd has shut a 500 MW unit at its Unchahar coal-fired power station in Rae Bareli after an explosion killed 26 people and injured several others.
  • The Uttar Pradesh govt issued an order notifying Vrindavan and Barsana towns in Mathura district as “pavitra teerth sthals (sacred pilgrimage sites)”.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS
  • The 7th Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (AMER7) was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 1-3 November 2017.
  • The 2017 World Youth Forum was held at Sharam El Shiekh in Egypt to provide platform to youth from all over the globe to engage with key global policy makers.
  • The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
  • (EBRD) have signed Joint Financial Partnership Declaration for cooperation on renewable energy projects around the world.
  • The 11th Trade Policy Forum (TPF) Meeting was held in Washington D.C..
  • Germany on Oct 31 celebrates 500 years since theologian Martin Luther nailed his “95 theses” to a church door, marking the start of the Reformation that created the Protestant church and transformed European society.
  • Saudi Arabia will allow women into three sports stadiums for the first time from 2018.
  • The world’s first hybrid electric tram powered by hydrogen fuel cells has started running in China, marking a big step in the application of green energy in public transport.

SCIENCE & DEFENCE
  • The Indian Army has formally launched Integrated Quarter Master Package (IQMP) software application for automating various logistics related functions of an Army Unit.
  • A 14 days joint training exercise 'PRABAL DOSTYK 2017' between the Indian Army and the Kazakhstan Army commenced with the Opening Ceremony at Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh.
  • Indian Army launched an independent and fully-integrated Joint Training Node (JTN) at Umroi cantonment in Shillong.
  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested indigenously developed light weight glide bomb Smart Anti Airfield Weapon (SAAW).
  • The Joint Indo-Russia Tri-Services Exercise INDRA-2017 was successfully conducted from 19 to 29 Oct 2017 at Vladivostok in Russia.
  • Researchers from University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada have developed earthquake-proof fibre-reinforced concrete that can dramatically enhance the earthquake resistance of seismically vulnerable structures.
  • Larsen and Toubro (L&T) handed over offshore patrol vessel (OPV) named “Vikram” to the Indian Coast Guard.
  • Researchers from ETH Zurich in Switzerland have successfully created the world’s shortest X-ray laser pulse with duration of just 43 attoseconds (1×10−18 of a second).
  • Several species of vultures, including four that have India on their migratory routes, were awarded the highest protection by the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS).
  • Scientists have found that parasite called Leptomonas seymouri hosting virus called Lepsey NLV1 may be also responsible for spread of kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis).

  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has signed seven more advance pricing agreements (APAs) with Indian taxpayers to reduce litigation by providing certainty in transfer pricing.
  • Odisha  Skill  Development  Authority  (OSDA)  and  Singapore-based  ITE  Education  Services(ITEES) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for skill development in the State.
  • The Union Cabinet has approved trade Agreement between India and Ethiopia for strengthening and promoting trade and economic co-operation.
  • India has made an offer to share intelligence of maritime movements in the Indian Ocean in real-time with 10 Indian Ocean littoral States.
  • US has approved $1.1 billion contract to service Qatar’s F-15 fighter jets despite diplomatic stand-off between Gulf emirate and its neighbours.
  • China-sponsored Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) approved USD 2 million loans (Rs. 13,000 crores) for five project in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Union Cabinet has approved for introduction of a Bill in Parliament to amend the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 namely the National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Act, 2017.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the continuation of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for three years i.e; 2017-18 to 2019-20, renaming it as Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana-Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied sector Rejuvenation (RKVY-RAFTAAR).
  • The          Cabinet    has          accorded the           ex-post    facto        approval  for           implementation      of Special Banking Arrangement (SBA) for Rs. 10,000 crore for payment of outstanding claims on account of fertilizer subsidy in the year 2016-17.
  • The Union Cabinet approved signing and ratifying agreement between India and Armenia on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the revision in the price of ethanol under Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme for supply to the Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies.
  • Assam govt signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) and Terms of Reference (ToR) with Singapore for skilling youth of the state.
  • The Ministry of Finance increased the maximum age of joining the National Pension System (NPS) from the existing 60 years to 65 years under NPS - Private Sector (i.e. all citizen and corporate model).
  • The Govt of India and the World Bank signed a $200 million Loan Agreement for the Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project.
  • Karnataka govt signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft India to empower farmers with technology-oriented solutions like Cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics.
  • The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is set to move a proposal before the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for taking over the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
  • The Centre has made the use of Public Finance Management System (PFMS) mandatory for all central schemes.

  • India ranked 108 of 144 countries on the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index 2017–slipping 21 places from 87 in 2016, Iceland topped the Index.
  • India ranked 100 in World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business (DB) Report 2018 titled as ‘Doing Business 2018: Reforming to Create Jobs’ as a range of government reforms put in place over the past four years started delivering results.
  • Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani overtook China’s Hui Ka Yan to become Asia’s richest person with a total wealth of $42.1 billion.
