BANKING & ECONOMY
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) prohibited non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) from outsourcing key functions such as internal audit, investment portfolio management, loan sanction, and know-your-customer compliance.
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has simplified Foreign Exchange Management (Transfer or Issue of Security by a Person Resident outside India) Regulations to make it easier for foreign investors to invest in the country.
  • HDFC Bank has announced the launch of its SmartUp Zone in Kochi, at Infopark and Kakkanad, an exclusive area inside the branch dedicated for start-ups.
  • India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) will become operational in all 650 districts of the country by April 2018 to facilitate financial inclusion.
  • The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) under Union Finance Ministry has doubled import duty on wheat to 20% from 10% to curb cheap shipments and give positive price signal to farmers in ongoing Rabi season.
  • Federal Bank has obtained RBI approval to open representative offices at Kuwait and Singapore.

  • The Union environment ministry formed a seven-member committee headed by environment secretary, CK Mishra, to formulate short and long-term measures to solve the problem of air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region.
  • The Second Meeting of Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) , under the chairmanship of Dr. Bibek Debroy, Member NITI Aayog, has spelt out ‘clear road map’ for govt to ramp up job creation and infrastructure financing avenues while investing more resources in health, education and skill development.
  • Union Govt launches Food Regulatory Portal and Investor Facilitation Portal on the sidelines of World Food India 2017 Expo in Delhi.
  • The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued notification to make FASTag mandatory for all new four-wheelers from December 1, 2017.
  • The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) has released ‘The Paradise Papers’, a global investigation that reveals the offshore activities of some of the world’s most powerful people and companies.
  • India was re-elected as the member of executive board of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
  • The India Pavilion at COP 23 was inaugurated by Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan at Bonn in Germany with the theme "Conserving Now, Preserving Future."
  • Public sector undertaking Coal India has launched the ‘Grahak Sadak Koyla Vitaran App’ to benefit customers of the company that are being supplied coal by road.
  • The Indian Railways has launched the main arch of the world's highest bridge on the River Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district which will provide direct connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.
  • India has slipped in 'business optimism' index to the 7th position in the September quarter, from the 2nd slot in the previous July-September quater, showing clear signs of lag in the economy.

  • The Indian Navy is likely to use advanced catapult-based aircraft launch mechanism (CATOBAR) from United States for its second indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC-II), which is on drawing board.
  • China successfully launched two BeiDou-3 satellites named BeiDou-3 M1 and BeiDou-3 M2 into space on board of single carrier rocket Long March-3B from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern province of Sichuan.
  • India conducted a test flight of its indigenously designed and developed long-range sub-sonic cruise missile ‘Nirbhay’, which can carry warheads of up to 300 kg from a test range at Chandipur along the Odisha coast.
