India ranks 75th in the Global Passport Power Rank 2017.

  • Advisory firm Arton Capital has published the 2017 Global Passport Power Rank. The index ranks passport of different countries based on their ‘total visa-free score’.
  • Singapore has fetched the top spot at this year’s Global Passport Power rank, with a visa-free score of 159.
  • The last 5 countries of this list are Afghanistan (94th), Pakistan and Iraq (both at 93), Syria (92nd) and Somalia (91st).

Minimum Wages for Workers to be introduced by Qatar.

  • Qatar is all set to introduce ‘minimum wages’ in order to provide legal protection for workers headed to the Gulf.
  • The announcement was made on the eve of the meeting of International Labour Organisation, where a formal investigation was to be launched by United Nations to look into the treatment of migrant workers in Qatar.
  • Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi introduced the initiative of minimum wage for workers in his meeting with the foreign diplomats.

Anti-Dumping Duty imposed by India on the import of Stainless Steel from some countries.

  • India has levied anti-dumping duty on the import of Stainless steel from China, South Korea, United States and the European Union.
  • The move aims to reduce the influx of cheaper imports as well as assist the local producers.
  • This duty will be in effect until 10th December 2020. However, certain grades of stainless steel have been exempted from it.
  • This anti-dumping duty has been imposed by the Department of Revenue, based on the recommendation of DGAD (Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties).

Lonely Planet names ‘Seville’ as the best travel spot for 2018.

  • Travel guide, Lonely Planet has named Spain’s ‘Seville’ as the top city to visit in 2018.
  • Chile has been named as the best destination country of 2018 in this list.
  • Spiti and Lahaul regions of Himachal Pradesh have been named among the top 10 regions to visit in 2018 in this list.

Gina Miller named as the most influential black person of UK.

  • Businesswoman Gina Miller, who led the Brexit legal challenge has been named as the most influential black person of the United Kingdom.
  • She topped the Powerlist of top 100 people of 2018 belonging to African and African Caribbean heritage.

SBI inks MoU with Escorts Ltd for the financing of tractors.

  • The agreement between State Bank of India and Escorts Limited has been signed in order to help finance the farmers for the purchase of Escort tractors.
  • Escorts Limited is a prominent manufacturer of tractors and construction equipments in Haryana.
  • The agreement aims at promoting, marketing and providing easy access to finance facilities to the farmers across the country at competitive rates, for the purchase of Powertrac and Farmtrac tractors manufactured by Escorts

EPPC inks MoU with Punjab National Bank for helping SMEs.

  • EPPC (Engineering Export Promotion Council) has signed a MoU with Punjab National Bank in order to ease the financing process for Small & Medium Enterprises as well as Merchant Exporters of the council.
  • Under the agreement, PNB would provide finance to the SMEs, under the assurance that advances up to Rs. 10 crores would be provided at competitive rates within 6-7 weeks.
  • Foreign Currency Loan facility, as well as Advisory support, will also be provided by PNB to the members of EPPC India under this agreement

An ‘Integrity Index’ to be developed by CVC for 25 organisations.

  • Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is all set to introduce an Integrity Index, based on benchmarking of internal processes and controls within an organisation as well as management of relationships and expectations of outside stakeholders.
  • 25 organizations have been shortlisted for development of the Integrity Index initially. These are: IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, PGCIL, Eastern Coalfields, Western Coalfields, SAIL, PNB, Syndicate Bank, NHAI, Mumbai Port Trust, RVNL, M/o Railways, NMDC, NALCO, BEL, BHEL, CCI, FCI, EPFO, MCI, MTNL, DDA and South MCD as well as CBDT.
  • CVC’s Integrity Index will publish scores or the rankings of the Public sector banks/ undertakings etc annually.

  • Popular for his Malayalam films, Filmmaker, Irruppam Veedu Sasidaran passed away in Chennai at the age of 69.
  • He has directed over 150 films of different genres in his 3-decade long career in this industry.

Virat Kohli surpasses Lionel Messi in the Forbes List.

  • Virat Kohli has overtaken Lionel Messi in terms of brand value in the Forbes List.
  • As per Forbes List of most valuable sportspersons, Kohli was ranked 7th, ahead of Messi, who was ranked at the 9th place.
  • Kohli is ahead of Messi by $1 million.
  • The list is topped by Roger Federer with a brand value of $37.2 million.
