Anupam Kher appointed new FTII chairman

  • Veteran actor Anupam Kher (62-year) has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
  • He will succeed Gajendra Chauhan.
  • FTII is considered as a premier institute for training in Cinema and Television, established in 1960.
  • Mr. Kher was conferred the Padma Shri (2004) and the Padma Bhushan (2016) for his contribution in the field of cinema and arts.
Note:
  • Mr. Kher is an alumnus of National School of Drama (NSD) has acted in over 500 films.
  • Anupam Kher born in Shimla and completed his education at the DAV School in the city.
  • In 1982, he made his acting debut with 'Aagman'.
  • Mr. Kher has also written and starred in a play about his own life called Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai.

Prez to inaugurates 2-day conference of Governors & LG

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has inaugurated two-day Conference (48th) of Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
  • The session will start with a presentation by NITI Aayog on the possible elements of ‘New India 2022’.
  • The second session will be on Higher Education in States and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to Make Youth Employable.
  • The 27 Governors and three Lieutenant Governors (LG) of States and Union Territories (UT) is attending the Conference.
  • The Governors will have detailed deliberations on the subjects of ‘Infrastructure for New India 2022’ and ‘Public Services for New India 2022’ in two groups.
  • HRD Minister and Skill Development Minister will make presentations covering the vision and roadmap for addressing the issues on the agenda.
Note: Governors will give their remarks and suggestions on ways to achieve the goal along with their experiences from the States.

Gujarat govt to set up 16 new GIDC townships to encourage SMEs

  • The Gujarat Govt. will set up 16 new Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) townships in 2400-hectare area to encourage the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
  • This township will attract 15,000 industrial units and about 20,000 crore rupees investments is likely to come up in the state following this policy.
  • Garment makers will get Rs. 4,000 subsidies per woman worker and Rs. 3500 rupees subsidy per male worker.

Chennai Metro Rail introduces free bicycle ride scheme

  • The Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) has introduced a free bicycle ride scheme for its customers.
  • It has tied up with a private agency to provide 100-hours of bicycle ride free of cost every month.
  • The free ride is available in four metro stations including in Ekkattuthangal, Nehru Park, Thirumangalam and Anna Nagar Tower.
  • The move will reduce dependence on private vehicles and services to be economical as well for the travelers.

Maharashtra cabinet approves climate change adaptation policy

  • The Maharashtra cabinet has approved a climate change adaptation policy to focus on developing environment-friendly villages and cities.
  • A special cell under the state Environment department will be set up for the effective implementation of the policy.
  • The focus of this policy will be to develop environment-friendly villages and cities.
  • The cabinet also approved the provision of funds for agricultural pumps, approval of special scheme for pending agricultural pumps in Vidarbha and Marathwada region.
  • The state govt. also increased subsidy from 50% to 75% for the development of basic infrastructure of 26 municipal corporations in A and D category.

Direct tax collections in the first half of the current financial year rise 15.8%

  • The Direct Tax Collections in the first half of the current fiscal shows growth of 15.8%.
  • The provisional figures of Direct Tax collections up to September 2017 show that net collections are at 3.86 lakh crore rupees which is higher than the corresponding period of last year.
  • Net Direct Tax collections represent 39.4% of the total budget estimates of Direct Taxes for the financial year 2017-18.
  • An amount of 1.77 lakh crore rupees has been received as Advance Tax up to 30th of September this year, reflecting a growth of 11.5 per cent over the corresponding period of last year.

The union cabinet approves MoC between India and Japan

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister ‘Shri Narendra Modi’ has approved the signing of Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan on the "Technical Intern Training Program (TITP)".
  • This MoC is expected to be signed during the forthcoming visit of Hon'ble Minister for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship at Tokyo.
  • The MoC will pave the way for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the area of skill development.
Note: The Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) is an ambitious program to send Indian technical interns to Japan for on the job training for a period of three to five years.

SpaceX launches rocket, landed successfully on ocean platform

  • US aerospace manufacturer and space transport services company SpaceX has launched a rocket that had already flown to space and landed it successfully on an ocean platform.
  • It is a part of its ongoing effort to recycle costly rocket components.
  • The Falcon 9 rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida carrying the Echostar 105/SES-11 satellite.
  • The satellite aims to provide television coverage and communications capabilities to North America, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
  • Its third successful mission with a flight-proven orbital class rocket, SpaceX said on Twitter.

Indian Pair Win Gold at World Archery Youth Championship 2017

  • India’s Mixed pair of Jemson Ningthoujam & Ankita Bhakat has won the gold medal at World Archery Youth Championship in Rosario, Argentina.
  • This is India’s first world title at the youth championships since Deepika Kumari’s victories in 2009 and 2011.

India qualifies for 2019 AFC Asian Cup

  • India has qualified for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup after they pumped in four goals for a convincing 4-1 win over Macau in a qualifying round at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.
  • They made the cut with two matches still to go in the qualifying round.
  • Rowllin Borges opened the scoring with a fine volley in the 28th minute, skipper Sunil Chhetri restored the lead, after the hosts conceded one, with a strike in the 60th minute, while Macau conceded an own goal through defender Lam Seng in the 70th minute to dig their own grave at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The fourth goal was scored by Jeje Lalpekhlua (90+2) after being assisted by Chhetri.
  • For Macau, Nicholas Tarrao scored in the 37th minute -- their first goal of the qualifying campaign. With this victory, Indian will make its fourth appearance in the continental event. India competed in the tournament for the first time in 1964, when they finished runners-up. Then they crashed out in the group stage in 1984 and 2011.

FIFA suspends the Pakistan Football Federation

  • The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has suspended the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) with immediate effect due to the verdict of the Bureau of the FIFA Council.
  • Now, the Pakistan Football Federation representative and club teams are not entitled to take part in international competitions.
  • The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is an association governed by Swiss law founded in 1904.
  • It has 211-member associations and its goal, enshrined in its Statutes, is the constant improvement of football.
