  • Fincare Small Finance Bank (previously known as Disha Microfin Limited) started its banking operations with about 25 operational branches across Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has launched a Central Database of all Insurance Sales Persons in the country christened as ‘Envoy’.
  • The Indian Commodity Exchange (ICEX) launched world’s first diamond futures contracts to provide exporters with a hedging tool. 
  • The Govt has notified the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Act under which it can authorise the RBI to issue directions to banks to initiate insolvency resolution process to recover bad loans.
  • The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) has released its latest edition of consolidated foreign direct investment (FDI) incorporating all the changes in rules and procedures notified by the govt throughout the last one year. 
  • The Centre extended the deadline to furnish Aadhaar details to avail benefits of various social welfare schemes till December 31. 
  • According to HSBC India’s economic growth is likely to remain “soft” and the GDP is expected to grow by 6 per cent in April-June quarter, down from 6.1 per cent in the preceding quarter. 
  • The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management of Centre has approved a 100% strategic sale along with transfer of management control of Central Electronics Ltd (CEL). 
  • According to the Reserve Bank of India’s annual report 15.28 lakh cr of the high-value currency that was demonetized in November 2016 returned to the central bank. 
  • Ujjivan Small Finance Bank Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ujjivan Financial Services Ltd, has been given scheduled bank status by RBI.

  • The two-day Indian Ocean Conference held in Colombo with the theme of ‘peace, progress and prosperity’. 
  • The Govt issued an alert on spread of new malware ‘Locky Ransomware’ that can lock computers and demand ransom for unlocking them. 
  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj launched country’s first Videsh Bhavan by assimilating all Regional Passport Offices and allied departments under a single roof at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 
  • The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences inaugurated the Ocean Forecasting System for Comoros, Madagascar, and Mozambique at the third Ministerial Meeting of Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System for Asia and Africa (RIMES) at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. 
  • The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched ‘National Sports Talent Search Portal’ to unearth sporting talent from every nook and corner of the country’s purpose and to tap sports talent and train selected children.
  • The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) under the Commerce and Industry Ministry is going to release a new industrial policy by October 2017. 
  • Union minister Smriti Irani and Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya awarded 12 women to recognise the transformational impact of work undertaken by them across India’s villages, towns and cities. 
  • The premier govt think tank, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog has suggested establishment of a judicial performance index (JPI) to check delay in finalisation of cases in lower judiciary. 
  • The Union Ministry of Science and Technology is planning to create FarmerZone, a collective open-source data platform for smart agriculture by using biological research and data to improve lives of small and marginal farmers.

  • Karnataka’s Department of Tourism has announced Dasara Special Tour Packages in the Golden Chariot Luxury Train, to promote the state festival. 
  • The 2017 Rajaswa Gyan Sangam, a two-day annual conference of senior tax administrators, was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. 
  • The Geographical Indications Registry (GIR) has granted geographical indication (GI) status to Gobindobhog rice, a speciality from Burdwan district of West Bengal. 
  • 10th India-European Union Counter Terrorism Dialogue was held at New Delhi.
  • Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the host city logo for Kochi, one of the venues of FIFA U-17 World Cup which represents and reflects Kochi’s identity and a valuable tool in linking the local community to a global World Cup. 
  • Delhi Police has launched YUVA – a skill development programme under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) which aims to connect with youth by upgrading their skill as per their competencies. 
  • Assam Govt has extended term of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 and declared entire state a Disturbed Area for six more months under Section 3 of AFSP Act. 
  • The 600-year-old Walled City in Gujarat’s commercial capital Ahmedabad was formally accorded status of India’s first World Heritage City by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

  • The Union Finance Ministry has imposed a five year anti-dumping duty on Sodium Nitrite imports from China. 
  • China will give 500 million yuan ($76.4 million) for a BRICS economic and technology cooperation plan, and another $4 million for projects at the BRICS countries’ New Development Bank.
  • Five banks of BRICS Interbank Cooperation Mechanism (ICM) have agreed to establish local currency credit lines and develop cooperation on credit ratings. 
  • The world’s highest sandcastle is now standing 16.68 meters (54.72 feet) tall in the German city of Duisburg.
  • The United States approved the first gene therapy in the nation, a treatment that uses a patient’s own immune cells to fight childhood leukaemia. 
  • Kenya imposed the world’s toughest law against plastic bags in the country to reduce plastic pollution in which producing, selling or using plastic bags with a maximum fine of over Rs. 25 lakh or a four-year jail term. 
  • 9th BRICS Summit held in Xiamen, China with the theme of the 9th BRICS Summit is “Stronger Partnership for a better future”. 
  • The UN global nuclear watchdog, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has opened world’s first low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank in Oskemen in Kazakhstan. 
  • The world’s largest and powerful X-ray laser-European X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) was unveiled in Hamburg, Germany. 
  • Astronaut Peggy Whitson returned to Earth wrapping up a record-breaking flight that catapulted her to first place for U.S. space endurance with 665 days off the planet and 288 days on the mission alone.

SCIENCE & DEFENSE

  • The DRDO has signed Rs.17,000 crore deal with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for producing advanced medium range surface to air missile (MRSAM) system for Indian Army by 2020. 
  • The  launch  of  IRSO’s  eight  navigation  satellite  IRNSS-1H  onbaord  of  PSLV-C39  from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh was unsuccessful due to the heat shield did not separate as a result of which satellite did not complete the 4th stage
  • The govt approved reforms within the Indian Army to enhance the combat capability of the forces thereby rebalancing defence expenditure in a phased manner by December 2019 based on the Lt Gen Shekatkar committee. 
  • Scientists from CSIR’s National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram have developed new technique to produce bioethanol from discarded cotton-stalks. 
  • NRDC, the technology transfer and commercialisation arm of the Ministry of Science & Technology, has won two accolades – the Assocham Services Excellence Award 2017 and its Chairman and Managing Director, H Purushotham got an international recognition. 
  • The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) organized its first Synergy Conference on Defence Pensions with the objective of obtaining feedback from the pensioners that would help the department to serve them better with constantly improving systems and procedures. 
  • Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati have successfully created an implantable bio-artificial pancreas model grown within a 3D silk scaffold which encapsulates insulin-producing cells.
  • Google-owned YouTube has refreshed its iconic logo and introduced some major design changes to its desktop and mobile apps. 
  • Researchers from University of Southampton, UK found that extreme global warming event 56 million years ago was driven by massive carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from volcanoes, during formation of North Atlantic Ocean. 
  • The Earth-sized planets orbiting the ultra-cool TRAPPIST-1 dwarf star 40 light-years away may have substantial amounts of water and could be habitable.

  • Nepal signed a USD 635 million UN assistance package for 2018-2022 to lay out the country’s development strategy for the next five years. 
  • The country’s largest telecom services provider, Bharti Airtel entered into a partnership with Symantec Corp, the world’s leading cyber security company to serve the growing cyber security requirements of businesses in India, providing protection and prevention of online threats in an increasingly digitally connected world. 
  • India and Germany signed an agreement on technical cooperation under the Indo-German Energy Programme – Green Energy Corridors (IGEN-GEC) which was signed by India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH India on behalf of Germany. 
  • The Union Cabinet has given its approval to the proposal of Union Finance Ministry to promulgate an ordinance to suitably amend the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Act, 2017. 
  • State-owned NTPC has signed a term loan agreement for Rs. 3,000 crore with ICICI Bank for partially funding its capital expenditure. 
  • India and Myanmar will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the conservation of earthquake-damaged pagodas at Bagan during official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Myanmar during 6-7 September 2017. 
  • The Union Cabinet approved Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up US $40 million India-Israel Industrial R&D and Technological Innovation Fund (I4F). 
  • The Union Cabinet has apprised Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Brazil in October 2016 for cooperation in fields of Zebu Cattle Genomics and Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs). 
  • Solar energy services company Freyr Energy has tied up with Axis Bank to offer term loans ranging from Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh for tenures up to five years, for solar rooftop installations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. 
  • The Indian School of Business (ISB) and SAP Labs India have entered into a collaboration to nurture technology-based start-ups in the social space. 
  • India and Switzerland have signed two Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) for exchanging technical cooperation in the field of Railways. 
  • Mahindra Comviva, a mobility solutions provider, has signed an agreement to acquire Emagine International for an undisclosed sum. 
  • India and China have jointly submitted a proposal to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) calling for the develelimination of the most trade-distorting form of farm subsidies by developed countries.
  • India and European Union (EU) have agreed to strengthen cooperation between their security and intelligence agencies to combat threat of terrorism and check terror financing. 
  • Swedish defence and security company SAAB and Indian conglomerate Adani Group have announced collaboration in defence manufacturing entailing billions of dollars of investment. 
  • India and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will meet shortly in an attempt to conclude their long pending negotiations on Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
