  • The Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu released a Commemorative Coin of Rs 100 and Rs 10 denomination on the occasion of 101st Birth Centenary of noted Carnatic musician & Bharat Ratna Dr. M.S. Subbulakshmi.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) along with FTSE Russell, global index and data provider launched FTSE SBI Bond Index series at London Stock Exchange (LSE).
  • Multilateral funding agency ADB has sanctioned a USD 300 million loan facility for carrying forward fiscal reforms in West Bengal to bring about more accessible, affordable, and high quality public services.
  • State Bank of India (SBI) is India’s most trusted and most popular bank according to a survey conducted by Brand Finance, a business valuation and strategic consultancy headquartered in London.
  • The Union Govt has issued gazette notification, notifying that Peer-to-peer lending (P2P) platforms will be treated as non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and regulated by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
  • Fino Payments Bank has launched its mobile banking app called BPay” to help develop the fintech ecosystem in India.
  • World trade in goods is estimated to grow 3.6 per cent in 2017 compared with the 1.6 per cent increase in 2016, according to the revised estimates circulated by the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) allowed Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) and Real Estate investment Trusts (REITs) to raise capital by issuing debt securities.
  • The GST Network (GSTN) has reopened composition scheme window facility for small taxpayers with turnover of up to Rs.75 lakh to opt for composition scheme.
  • HDFC Bank retained its No. 1 position in the BrandZ India top 50, doubling its brand value since 2014 with a sustained focus on improving services.
  • Tech Giant Google’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based digital payment service Tez (meaning fast in Hindi) was launched by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi

  • The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas launched country-wide Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat scheme to distribute LPG connections among rural areas where conventional fuel is used for domestic purposes.
  • India gets its first high horse power locomotive with the arrival of the first bodyshell of 12000 HP loco from Alstom France at Kolkata port.
  • NITI Aayog and the International Road Federation, Geneva (IRF Geneva) have signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) to cooperate in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • Hindi film "Newton", to represent India in the Best Foreign Language category at the 90th Academy Awards (Oscar) next year.
  • The Union Govt is planning to safeguard fast-eroding Majuli island, world’s largest riverine island, using research carried out on floating Brahmaputra Biodiversity and Biology Boat (B4) labs along Brahmaputra River.
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC) has made a significant oil discovery to the west of its prime Mumbai High fields in the Arabian Sea.
  • The Ministry of Development of Northeast has invited start-ups from all over country to avail benefits of Northeast Venture Fund, first dedicated venture capital fund for North-Eastern region, in a bid to make Northeast India favourite destination for young Startups.

  • The President Ram Nath Kovind had launched the nationwide campaign “Swachhta Hi Seva”, from Iswarigunj, a village in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh with the objective of mobilising people between Sept 15 and Oct 02 & reigniting the “jan aandolan” for sanitation.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated interstate multi-purpose Sardar Sarovar Dam (Narmada dam project) at Kevadia, Gujarat to the nation on the occasion of his 67th birthday (Sept 17).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Deendayal Hastkala Sankul, a trade facilitation centre and Crafts Museum for handicrafts at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Multi-Agency humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise Pralay Sahayam was recently held in Hyderabad to create public awareness about man-made and natural climate change and urban disasters including flood.
  • India’s first electric bus service was launched at Rohtang Pass area in Himachal Pradesh.

  • The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved changes to laws to incorporate the death penalty for those producing illicit liquor that causes death.

  • Fifty countries, Brazil being the first country to sign, signed a treaty to ban nuclear weapons, a pact that the world’s nuclear powers spurned but supporters hailed as a historic agreement nonetheless.
  • The WHO has released its first tranche of emergency funding of $175,000 to provide life-saving healthcare to the “vulnerable population” in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar.
  • The Union Govt is hopeful that strategic Chabahar Port in Iran will be operational by 2018-end.
  • For the first time in history, the United States established an official, permanent military base in Israel: an air defense base in the heart of the Negev desert.

  • Scientists from University of Manchester have created world’s first ‘molecular robot’, millionth of a millimetre in size.
  • The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned two high-speed interceptor boats, C-433 and C-434 boats fitted with a 12.7 mm machine gun at the Dighi Port in Mumbai.
  • International team of astronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have spotted an unusual object called 2006 VW139/288P having two asteroids orbiting each other with comet-like features.
  • The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is planning to fund project to develop quantum computers in order to tap into the next big advance in computing technology.
