England wins ICC Women’s World Cup 2017

  • England’s women cricket team has won the 2017 ICC World Cup title by defeating India by 9 runs at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, UK.
  • Chasing a target of 229, India being bowled out for 219 in 48.4 overs
  • Shrubsole (England) who took six wickets was declared Player of the Match.
  • Tammy Beaumont (England) was awarded Player of the Series title (410- runs in the tournament).
  • Dane van Niekerk (South Africa) took 15 wickets in the tournament.

  • ENG : 228/7 (50.0 Ovs).
  • IND : 219-all out (48.4 Ovs).

H S Prannoy wins US Open Grand Prix Gold badminton title


  • Indian Shuttler H S Prannoy has won the 2017 US Open Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament title at Anaheim, California.
  • In the final match, Prannoy beat Kashyap(India) 21-15, 20-22, 21-12.
  • In the women's singles tournament, Aya Ohori (Japan) won the final beating Michelle Li (Canada).


India end campaign with five medals in World Para Athletics


  • India ended their World Para Athletics Championship campaign with five medals ( one Gold, two Silver, and two bronze medals) in London.
  • The lone Gold came through Sundar Singh Gurjar in men's javelin throw F-46 event.
  • India bagged two medals in the high jump, Sharad Kumar won a silver medal, Varun Bhati bagged bronze medal in the T42 event.
  • Karamjyoti Dalal has won the bronze medal in the women’s F55 category at the World Para Athletics Championships 2017 in the discus-throw.
  • Amit Saroha won the silver medal in the club throw event in the F-51 category.


Indian space pioneer Udupi Ramachandra Rao passes away


  • Space scientist and the former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) Prof. Udupi Ramachandra Rao (85-year) passed away in Bengaluru.
  • He initiated the development of the medium powered GSLV rocket for two-tonne spacecraft in 1991.
  • Rao was decorated with the Padma Vibhushan (2017) and the Padma Shri (1976).
  • Rao was born in Adamaru near Udupi on 10th March,1932.
  • He had completed his secondary education from Christian High School, Udupi and completed his B.Sc in Government Arts and Science College, Anantapur.
  • M.Sc. from Banaras Hindu University and Ph.D. at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad under the guidance of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai.


Around Rs 72,000 Cr undisclosed income detected by IT dept. in last 3 years


  • The Income Tax (IT)department has detected around 72 thousand crore rupees of undisclosed income after conducting massive searches, seizures, and surveys over the last three years.
  • During the period of demonetization from 9th of November last year to 10th January, the total undisclosed income admitted was more than 5,400 crore rupees.
  • The total quantity of gold seized stood at more 300 kilograms.


IMF lowered forecasts for the US, UK economic growth this year


  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered its forecasts for US and UK economic growth this year.
  • It now expects the UK to grow by 1.7% this year, compared with the 2% it was previously forecasting.
  • The US will now grow 2.1%, as against the 2.3 % it was predicting in April.
  • Its prediction that the global economy will grow by 3.5% in 2017, and 3.6% in 2018, is unchanged.
  • The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an international organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.


World's 1st floating wind farm starts to take shape off coast of Scotland


  • The world's first full-scale floating wind farm has started to take shape off the north-east coast of Scotland.
  • The technology will allow wind power to be harvested in waters too deep for the current conventional bottom-standing turbines used.
  • The Peterhead wind farm (Hywind) is a trial which will bring power to 20,000 homes.
  • The output from the turbines is expected to equal or surpass generation from current ones.
  • It hopes to cash in on a boom in the technology, especially in Japan and the West Coast of the US, where waters are deep.


Kiren Rijiju inaugurates RIWATCH Museum in Arunachal Pradesh


  • The Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has inaugurated the Research Institution of World Ancient, Traditional, Culture & Heritage (RIWATCH) Museum at Roing in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • It will serve as a place of exchange of cultural values of various tribes of the state and the North East.
  • He also inaugurated the 235-meter long Chimari Bridge, which would serve as a life line between the National Highway 52 of Roing-Tezu.


Hyderabad to host Urban Mobility meet


  • The Hyderabad city will host the tenth edition of Urban Mobility India conference beginning 4th November this year.
  • The three-day event will be jointly organized by the Union Ministry of Urban Development and the Telangana Government.
  • “The theme of this year’s conference is intelligent, inclusive and sustainable mobility.
  • More than 1,500 delegates would take part in the conference and discuss important issues and challenges related to urban transport.


Meghalaya CM launches ‘Mission Football’ in Shillong


  • Chief Minister of Meghalaya ‘Dr. Mukul Sangma’ has launched ‘Mission Football’ at a grand ceremony at JN Sports Complex, Shillong.
  • Through this mission the future of Meghalaya can be foreseen when the state will be connected with the rest of the world.
  • It is a dedicated programme for talent identification and nurturing of talents to develop national and international players
  • Mission Football is an initiative to help develop skills of football enthusiasts and develop young footballers for the country.


Maneka Gandhi launches online complaint system 'sexual harassment e-box'


  • The union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has launched online complaint system " sexual harassment e-box" for registering sexual harassment complaints at workplace in New Delhi.
  • At initial phase, this online portal is open for central government women employees only and later on, complaints from private sector will be entertained effectively.
  • The Ministry will soon conduct a national level survey to examine the magnitude of sexual harassment at workplace.
  • The Ministry has been focusing on women living with dignity and contributing as equal partners towards the development of the country in an environment free from violence.


IRCTC forms new catering policy to improve food quality in trains & stations


  • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has formed a new catering policy to improve food quality in trains & stations.
  • Earlier, the Comptroller and auditor general (CAG) has released a report ccriticizingthe food served in stations and trains.
  • According to the CAG, the food served in trains is unfit for human consumption and the hygiene standards at railway catering units are below par.
  • As per the new catering policy of 2017, the IRCTC will manage catering services on all mobile units, and pantry car contracts will also be reassigned to railways' catering arm.
  • Now, IRCTC will not have the right to outsource or issue licenses for provision of catering services to private licensees
