Key-points of Satellites Launched in 2017

What is a satellite?

It is a machine which is launched into the space and moves around the earth or say another body in a space. It is an artificial object which is placed into the orbit intentionally. It allows us to see large areas of Earth at one time. Satellites can gather or collect more amount of data, more quickly, than the instruments on the ground.

Satellites:

These are the list of some important satellites:

PSLV-C34:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • It’s a 1.5 kg micro-satellite.
  • It was designed and built by the students of Sathyabama University.
  • It collect’s data on greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

PSLV-C35:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • It is a miniature satellite to give climate anticipating, tornado expectation, and tracking services to India.

PSLV-C36:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • Its main use is for micro and macro information on land and water bodies below, farm lands and crop extent, forests, mineral deposits, coastal information, rural and urban spreads besides helping in disaster management.
  • It is also called as a Resourcesat mission.

PSLV-C37:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • It has launched 104 satellites from a single rocket.
  • Out of 104 satellites three satellites belong to India and the remaining 101 belongs to the USA, Germany and the other nations.

PSLV-C38:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • It’s designed for remote sensing applications.
  • It’s been built by the students of Noorul Islam University, Kanyakumari.
  • Cartosat-2E satellite is an advanced remote sensing satellite, having surveillance capabilities with its multi-spectral optical imager and panchromatic camera.

GSLV-MK-II:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • It was offered by India as a diplomatic initiative to its neighbouring countries.
  • It is mainly used for communication, remote sensing, resource mapping and disaster management applications.

GSLV-MK-III:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
  • It is the heaviest rocket and as well as the heaviest satellite which is launched from our soil.

SPACEX CRS-10:

Launch Station: Kennedy Lc-39A.
  • It will enhance the public safety, reduce reliance on range infrastructure, reduce range spacelift cost and it will increase schedule predictability and availability, operational flexibility, and launch slot flexibility.

GSAT-18:

Launch Station: Centre Spatial Guyanais, Kourou.
  • Its weight is 3.4 tons, this was the heaviest satellite being operated by India at the time of its launch.

GSLVF-05:

Launch station: Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
